• Guess at what it MEANS• APPLY the elements & principles
• Make at least 3 guesses
• Ex: I think the artist wants to focus on the woman’s face because the patterns surround her.
• I think the artist chose complimentary colors to make the image pop and stop a viewer from walking past.
• I think the woman is unhappy because her face looks so sad.
Third: WonderSynthesize new ideas
• Explore the questions your thinking provokes• Incorporate the elements & principles
• Ask at least 3 questions
• Ex: I wonder if this work would look differently or feel differently if the colors were pinks and reds?
• I wonder if the artist knows this woman or if he’s trying to make a statement about women?
• I wonder about the patterns around her neckline; did the artist plan the repeating image or was it an accident?
