Rhoton is a classic in the field. It has drawings and excellent cadaver dissections, but lacks much
coverage of radiographic imaging including cross sectional or angiography. The focus is on open
surgery.
Krings and the author team on this book are all interventional neuroradiologists and this book does
not cover anything related to open surgery. This book is almost entirely radiographic images.
Choudhri is an attempt to merge angiographic images with cadaver dissections. The authors are
neurosurgeons.

DESCRIPTION This updated edition reflects recent advances in orthopaedic traumatology and a wealth of evidence-
based, clinical expertise from world-class surgeons. It expands on the award-winning 2007 edition,
with a more extensive video library that is notable in depth and breadth. The expertly written and
richly illustrated text, coupled with the remarkable video compilation, enable surgeons to augment
skills, overcome challenges, perfect surgical techniques, and successfully manage even the most
complex cases.
SALES HOOKS More than 150 high-quality surgical videos are a superb learning tool
Videos detail surgical procedures from preoperative planning and patient positioning to
suturing the skin, featuring personalized commentary that delivers one-on-one training
More than 1,500 first-rate illustrations, diagrams, and radiographic studies
COMPETITION 1) Court-Brown: Rockwood and Green’s Fractures in Adults, 8th edition, 2,769 pages (two volumes),
LWW, 2014, $499.99. Comes with enhanced ebook and videos. A landmark book that helps
define the field. It should be seen as a competitor even though it covers all aspects of
fractures, while Stannard focuses on surgical management.
2) Browner: Skeletal Trauma, 5th edition, 2,704 pages (2 volumes), Elsevier, 2014, $499. Browner
is positioned as a direct competitor to Rockwood and Greene. Comes with e-version and
videos.
3) Tornetta: Operative Techniques in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery, 672 pages, LWW, $261.99. This
is a step-by-step line drawings book, which is a different approach than Stannard.
4) Wiss: Master Techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery: Fractures, 848 pages, LWW, 2012, $249.99.
Combination of line drawings and color images describing surgical technique. Stannard is
positioned as a more practical, concise, clinical alternative to Browner and Rockwood and
Green, yet it offers considerably more coverage than the surgical techniques book. This
combination of comprehensiveness but not too much textbook is an appealing concept to
orthopaedic surgeons.

DESCRIPTION Aesthetic Rejuvenation of the Face and Neck presents the latest surgical and non-surgical techniques
used in facial aesthetic rejuvenation. In the current environment of “lunchtime facelifts” and “light
lifts” that often produce poor results, this book fulfills the need for a text that takes a careful, detailed
approach to describing high-quality aesthetic facial rejuvenation procedures.

It is interesting to note that there is limited competition, since so much of aesthetic plastic surgery is
done on the face. The author’s marketing questionnaire mentions mostly older titles published a while
ago. Lin is a plastic surgeon and the book does focus on aesthetic plastic surgery. Regan is a facial
plastic surgeon and this book competes more with Papel than with this book.

DESCRIPTION The reference work “Science of Synthesis: Catalytic Transformations via C—H Activation” covers the
state of the art in C—H activation chemistry. Experts in the field present the best synthetic methods
including typical or general experimental procedures. As such, this two volume set can serve as both a
basis for the practical application of the techniques discussed, and as an educational resource to lay
the foundations for future research.
Volume 1 concerns the formation of C—C bonds by both arene and hetarene C—H activation. For the
arenes the material is subdivided into arylation [using palladium(0), palladium(II)/palladium(IV),
palladium(II), and ruthenium(II) catalysts], vinylation [using various palladium and ruthenium(III)
catalysts], and alkylation (using various metal catalysts in combination with either functionalized
alkanes or alkenes). For the hetarenes, the related coupling strategies are covered as a single topic
using a variety of metal catalysts and coupling partners.
