Family and Friends Family and Friends

They say there is a reason,

They say that time will heal.

But neither time nor reason,

Will change the way we feel.

For no one knows the heartache

That lies beyond our smiles.

No one knows how many times

We have broken down and cried.

We want to tell you something,

So there won’t be any doubt:

You’re so wonderful to think of,

But so hard to be without.

We cannot bring the days back

When we were all together.

The family chain is broken now

But memories and love will live forever.

The family of the late Bessie B. Dreher, wishes to express their sincere thanks

for the many expressions of sympathy shown to them during their time of

bereavement. Special thanks to USC Internal Medicine Department, American

Homecare, Palmetto Health Hospice, and the Palmetto Richland Heart Hospital.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now

there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous

Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me,

but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

II Timothy 4:7-8

Bessie Brown Dreher was born November 2, 1935 in Richland County to

the late Lowman and Edith Milligan Brown. On October 16, 2017, she

was enfolded into the waiting arms of her heavenly Father to take her

eternal rest.

She was educated in the public schools of Richland County. She worked

for the Richland County school system until her retirement. Ever faithful

to ministry, Bessie was a devoted member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist

Church. She served on the Usher Board and the Senior Musical and

Jubilee Choirs, as well as serving as the miscellaneous treasurer until her

health declined.

Bessie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and

friend. Her beautiful smile and genuine kindness warmed the hearts of

many. People who knew her affectionately called her “Momma”.

She was married to the late Eugene B. Dreher, Jr. for 31 years before his

passing. To this union, eight children were born. In addition to her

parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Eugene Dreher,

III.

Bessie leaves to cherish precious memories and special moments, five

daughters: Marie Dreher, Reverend Delores (Dennie) Smith, Juliet

Dreher, Gladys Dreher, and Jeanette Glover; two sons, Perry and Michael

Dreher; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to

mourn her passing, a brother, Harry Brown, a special niece, Edith

Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty

In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,

Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever,

Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly

Trod the valley of the shade?

Oh! but Jesus' arm to lean on,

Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,

For I love you dearly still;

Try to look beyond earth's shadows,

Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,

So you must not idly stand;

Do it now, while life remaineth —

You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,

He will gently call you Home;

Oh, the rapture of that meeting,

Oh, the joy to see you come!
