GREATER KANSAS CITYMINUTES
October 23, 2011
Meeting held at Nan Dittrick’shouse in Lawrence Kansas.
Members present –
Dave and Martie WeltherJohn and Jennifer CramerNan Dittrick and Kenny PhippsJanette Sheldon
Meeting was called to order byPresident Dave Welther. It wasestablished a quorum waspresent.
Minutes of last meeting read bySecretary Janette Sheldon andthereafter approved.
President’s report –
Dave reported that ourspecialty shows were a greatsuccess. He thanked Amber forthe puppy basket, Julia forbringing two baskets, Janette,Mona and Nan for the giganticpicnic basket, and Martie forputting together five baskets aswell as being in charge ofgetting the project together aswell as selling tickets. Havingthe soft crate was a great ideaand very successful. And, hethanked Molly and McNeilly forhelping sell tickets.
Our numbers for entries wereup. People came from all over, including one lady fromCanada. Dave reported heheard comments fromparticipants who really likedthe choices of our judges aswell as having the twospecialties on one day.Compared to some of the otherDalmatian specialty showsaround the country we did verywell. He said that the number
of dogs and bitches for majorshere could also assist inbringing in people.
Dave thanked Kenny and Royfor cooking the burgers andeveryone else who eitherbrought in food or assisted inputting the luncheon together. He thanked John and Jenniferfor being the trophy chairs aswell as Sandi and Janette fortheir participation. He thankedMartie for getting Bob Ekle tosend his trophy check in. Alsohe thanked everyone forassisting in the set up Thursdaynight as well as those of us whoparticipated in working theshow – Colleen, Janette andJeff for being ring stewards,Mona for taking care ofbreakfast, and Nan for theshow and go.
Treasurer’s report waspresented by Nan as Monacould not be present. Thereport as written was approvedshowing a profit of about $400on the shows. Nan gave Dave acouple of checks Mona wantedco-signed, and generaldiscussion was had regardingthe need for two signatures. Our by-laws do not require twosignatures. It was determinedMona should take thatrequirement up with the bank.
Thereafter there was a generaldiscussion regarding the cost ofjudges. Martie indicated shehad a bill of approximately $44yet to be submitted. Nanindicated the money donatedfor the luncheon was way toolow. It was suggested nextyear both the breakfast andluncheon should be set out inthe premium
(Thereafter, although ourcapable president did his bestto get reports from the 2011show committee and then
move on to the 2012 showcommittee, old business andnew business, conversationsort of ebbed and flowed. Thissecretary is not exactly surecomments made are in theright category, but are setdown in more or lesschronological order.)
Some of the judges want a fee, others want a fee plusexpenses, and some just wantexpenses. There are a lot oflocal working dog judges whowould love to take otherbreeds. The judges we hadthis year brought in a lot ofpeople. We should workdiligently to have this happenagain. And then everyonestarted talking at once aboutjudges in general – what wehad paid for and what theother clubs paid for.
John said clean up of the onering in building 21 cost $200this year. We paid 2/3 of thatcost. He is pretty sure the costof clean up is going to be muchhigher next year. He also saidthere probably will be morespecialties next year as theyadd a lot more entries to theunderlying Lawrence show.French Bulldog, Boston Terrier,Chinese Shar-Pei, and twoDalmatian shows werementioned as the possibilities.Nan reminded John that theDalmatian shows get prioritysince we got there first. In alllikelihood both rings in Building21 will be in use, which meansthere will be a whole lot morepeople in the building. It’seven possible part of the otherbuilding will be used.
Conversation then turned tothe Show and Go. Nanreported that there had been adecent entry. She suggestednext year the event be held onSaturday evening, however, to
get more entries. Since thatwould be in the middle of theLawrence show, proceedswould have to be divided. Shealso suggested both rings beused. The utility obediencepeople want ten minutes, notfive for their practice. Thatcould be accommodated usingboth rings. There wasconversation about havingperformance offered again.John will be looking in towhether our specialty couldactually hold our performanceevent on Saturday eveninginstead of a show and go.Obviously this subject will berevisited.
Then Dave directed us toofficially talk about the 2012show. John Cramer hasvolunteered to be our showchair. He will be chairing theLawrence club show as well.
We talked more about judges.Vote was taken and our firstpick for judges will becontacted by John. Oncecontracts are in place, nameswill be released. If you wantmore information, contactDave or John directly.
Trophies will be chaired byvolunteer Martie Welther.Generally the trophies shouldrange in cost from $10 to $30.This next year they will be forfirst place winners only. Thereis about a six month lag timebetween making a decision ontrophies and the showaccording to Jennifer. Martieindicated she did notanticipate asking any clubmember to make things thisnext year. She says we worktoo hard on other things.
Then a few more commentswere made about a show andgo or performance matches onSaturday night.
Old business - It wasdetermined the complementarynon-voting members wouldhave a one year membership aspreviously voted. Thereafter, for those who want to continueparticipating in the club, theywill be given an opportunity topay a pro rata membership feeto have their membershipextended to the beginning ofthe next fiscal year.
New business – Colleen wasdrafted to design a certificateto be given to thecomplementary non-votingmembers.
Next meeting will be at Daveand Martie’s home at 16090Nall Ave, Overland Park, onSaturday, December 3rd. Aboard meeting will commenceat 1:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m. will bethe regular meeting as well asTHE CHRISTMAS PARTY. Againthe club will furnish the mainmeat dish, with club membersbringing the rest of the food. There will be a gift exchangealso.
Meeting adjourned.
No brags or bitches recorded.
Respectfully submitted
