• The Graduate College continues to work to improve the thesis and dissertation process.– Thesis and Dissertation Committee
Roadmap• Slated to go to UGC during the first
meeting this fall, then back to departments for discussion
– Recommendation of Dissertation Committee form• Also slated to go to UGC this fall
• The Graduate College has been using the ETD submission process since Fall 2011 with great success.
• A few recurring issues need to be addressed by thesis/dissertation committee chairs and members to ensure successful submission of the final document.

• The committee chair must send the student, as well as the Graduate College, a scanned copy of the completed Part 2 of the Oral Defense Form (Verification Form) after all edits and other degree requirements have been met. – This requirement is highlighted in yellow on the bottom
of the form. – The Graduate College informs students that when the
committee chairs send them the form, students will know that the document is ready for ETD submission.

• The bottom of the Part 2 of the Oral Defense Form (Verification Form) is being sent to the Graduate College blank.
• Even if no edits were required following the defense, there are four areas to be marked in the box in order for students to know what is required by the department for the final ETD submission. – Open Access– Copyright Registration– Embargo– Bound Copies
• When students do not get the copy of Part 2 of the Oral Defense Form (Verification Form), they do not know whether the department requires copies.

• The committee chair must ensure that students submit documents for format check which is required before the defense by the stated deadline on the Graduate College website under Dates and Deadlines.
• The old signature-line format was eliminated when electronic submission began. Students must follow the title page model found at http://www.nau.edu/GradCol/Student-Resources/Current-Students/Theses-and-Dissertations
