Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Quarterly Newsletter of The Khaitan School, Noida. The purpose of this Newsletter is to furnish a comprehensive insight into the activities and achievements of the staff and students of our school. TKS buzzes with activities and our display shelves sparkle with trophies and mementos won by our students who regularly participate in interschool, interstate and international competitions and bring laurels to themselves, the school and our country! 6 April ’17Class I Orientation Programme was held on Saturday, 8 April, 2017 for parents to give an insight into the various scholastic and co-scholastic activities undertaken throughout the year, evaluation criteria, and various facilities at the primary level, programmes like Helen O’ Grady, Edusports and Sangeet 4 All. An interactive session was also held between the parents and panel of experts which included • Mrs. Sagun Nath (Coordinator I and II)• Ms. Pooja Ahuja (Junior School counsellor)• Ms. V. Lalitha (Examination in charge)• Dr. Jyoti (School doctor) and• Ms. Saskia Rao (Creator of Sangeet 4 All).

Class VI Orientation Programme was organized on 6 April 2017 to apprise the parents of the remodeled CBSE curriculum, behavioral changes in the children, the new assessment scheme introduced by CBSE and the importance of Almanac. A special assembly was held on April 10, 2017 to commemorate 94 birth anniversary of the founder of The Khaitan School, Mr. Gajanan Khaitan, a true visionary and an exceptional human being.Mr.Gangesh Khaitan, Chairman, and Mrs. S.L. Gupta, Education Director along with the Headmistress, Coordinators and Sta� Representative paid floral tribute to Babuji. Vice head Boy Saubhagya Chitravanshi and Vice Head Girl Savvy Khanna also paid homage. The school choir sang ‘Itnee Shakti Hame Dena Datta’, a prayer close to Babuji’s heart. Vanya and Kritika of class V recited a short poem dedicated to Babuji. Shivani Chauhan, Vice Cultural Captain shared a detailed insight into Babuji’s life and vision. Savvy Khanna, vice head Girl proposed the vote of thanks. The special assembly ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.

Founder’s day was observed by the students of the primary wing on 13th April 2017, to enlighten everyone with the mission and principles of our founder Chairman Shri Gajanan Khaitan, The Principal, Headmistress, coordinators and members of the student council paid floral tribute to Babuji, amidst the recital of the Gayatri Mantra. An inspirational poem and a talk on his life and principles enlightened everyone.

Ms. Vreeti Aggarwal of class X-D emerged as the National winner of Class IX National Capital Olympiad organized by Saevus Wildlife India 2016-17. Around 20,000 students from across the country participated in the first round, out of which 800 candidates qualified for the second round. Vreeti emerged as the topper among all the 800 candidates.

Ms. Vreeti was felicitated on 14 April 2017 in a program held by the organization in Mumbai. She received a cash prize of Rs 25000/-, a trophy and a certificate.

Class IX Orientation Programme was organized on 15th April 2017 to apprise the parents of the remodeled CBSE curriculum, the behavioral changes in children, the new assessment scheme focusing on scholastic and co scholastic domains and the role parents play in the holistic development of adolescents.

Respective class teachers, subject teachers and activity teachers of all sections of class IX introduced themselves followed by an interactive session. The panelists for the interaction were Ms. Sheetal Sawhney, (Senior Coordinator) Mrs. Nirmilesh Gupta (Examination Incharge), Dr. Damyanti Sharma (Sta� Representative) and Mrs. Neha Dutt (Senior school counsellor).

Mrs.D.Kaur, Principal, Mrs.Seema Khurana, Headmistress and Ms.Priya Vaid, Pre-Primary Coordinator were felicitated by the United Group of Institutions, Knowledge Park III, Greater Noida for their outstanding contribution to the field of education.

Muskan Grover, Savvy Khanna, Pratiksha Pant, Davang Sikand and Shivani Chauhan were honoured for their excellent performance in class XI.

Shri Upendra Kushwaha, Minister of State for HRD in Government of India was the Chief Guest. Mr. Anand Kumar, Founder of “India’s IIT Factory” Super 30, interacted with the teachers and students at the ceremony. Other dignitaries at the function included Mr.Santosh Kumar Mall, Commissioner Kendriya Vidalaya Sangahathan, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi, Chairman CBSE and Mr. Biswajit Kumar Singh, Commissioner JS Level Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

Our students participated in an Inter School Competition held at Bal Bharti Public School, Noida and bagged 1st prize in The Asian Attire Challenge.

13 schools from Noida and Greater Noida participated in The Khaitan Annual Interschool Basketball Tounament 24 to 26 April, 2017. Mrs. S.L. Gupta, Education Director inaugurated the tournament and Mrs.D. Kaur, Principal, presented the trophies.

2nd Runner up-Dharam Public School, Greater Noida

Under the aegis of the District Administration a mass evacuation drill was conducted in The Khaitan School Noida on April 27, 2017 i.e. Thursday at 11:00 a.m. to prepare the students to evacuate safely during an earthquake. This exercise was conducted in 101 schools of Gautam Buddh Nagar District on the same day and at the same time. The students and sta� were instructed by o�cials from NDRF on how to respond in case of an earthquake. All the students followed the ‘duck cover and hold’ exercise and on hearing the hooter vacated their classrooms in an orderly manner and assembled class wise in the assembly ground.

The Khaitan School marked the World Dance Day by organizing an Odissi performance under the aegis of Spic Macay on 28th April 2017. Renowned Odissi exponent Smt. Kavita Dwibedi and her team comprising of Manas Kumar Sarangi on Mardal, Suresh Kumar Sethi as vocalist and Yar Mohammad on sitar conducted the workshop.

A special assembly on Sadbhavna Diwas was organised by Aravalli house. After the morning prayers and inspirational thought, he students of classes III-V presented a thought provoking skit on the importance of unity, peace and brotherhood. Principal, Ms. D.Kaur motivated the students to develop the value of peace and understanding amongst all.

In the Earth Day special assembly Pre Primary children shared the need for awareness about environmental protection , pollution and global warming .Children of class Prep conveyed the message, ‘plant more trees and save mother earth’ through a melodious song “Aao Vriksh Lagayein”.and a dance on the song “Mother Earth ,Mother Earth” emphasizing the need to protect mother earth.

Primary Wing Special assembly on Earth day was conducted by Aravalli house. The prayer and thought for the day were followed by a talk by the “Earth Warriors’ of class V. An amazing fashion show put up by the students of class IV and V mesmerized the spectators. A soulful song was sung by the students of class II. Madam Principal, Mrs D. Kaur emphasized the concept of 3 R’s-Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

The Khaitan School, Noida hosted its seventh annual IT fest Unplugged on May 05, 2017. Mr. Mrigank Tripathi, Founder & CEO Qustn Technologies Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated the fest. More than 20 schools including Modern School Barakhamba Road, Delhi, DPS, RK Puram, Vishwa Bharti , Noida , DPS, Noida, Amity International School, Vasundhara participated in various events like IT Quiz Symposium on “How secure incognito browsing is?” , Web Weaving, Virtual Canvas, Game On, Cipher, Turtle War, Robotics-manual and autonomous and Picasso. Master Ayush Jain, President IT club, in his speech highlighted the milestones the club has achieved over the years. Mrs. S.L. Gupta congratulated and applauded the prize winners on their excellent performance and gave away the prizes.

The overall winner’s trophy was bagged by Bal Bharati Public School, Noida and the Runners up Trophy was won by Sommerville School, Noida.

Mrs. Bindu Gupta, In charge Interact Club, along with Interact President, Kashish Dev, Treasurer Maahir Kawatraa and Joint Secretary Sanya Verma attended the Annual o�cial visit of the District Governor Rotary International, District 3012, Mr. Sharad Jain at Hotel Radisson, Noida on Sunday 7th May, 2017. The Governor was briefed about the activities held during the session 2016-2017. In the interactive session, the Governor reiterated the fact that Rotary’s prime focus had always been to cultivate a sense of commitment, involvement, dedication and leadership amongst the youth who would work for the betterment of the society. This passion had made them undertake numerous long term projects. The latest has been project ‘Umeed’. In this 18 severe acid/ fire burnt victims were given plastic surgery at Prayag Hospital by a team of super specialist German doctors. A suggestion to involve the members of the Interact Club with such projects was made.

A workshop on ‘Handling di�cult situations’ was organized on 17th May, 2017 for Pre-Primary and Primary teachers. Ms. Jasmine and Ms. Tanya from Fortis Hospital, the resource persons, interacted with teachers on understanding common and group centered concerns, underlying reasons for behavioral concerns, acknowledging practical di�culties and tips and techniques for managing behavioral problems leading to di�cult classroom situations.

Under the guidance of Mr. K. Thapa, 30 students of The Khaitan School reaped 12 Gold, 5 Silver and 13 bronze medals and the overall trophy for 3rd position in the Gautam Buddh Nagar games 2017 organized by District Taekwondo Association, at Greater Noida Stadium, on 9th May 2017.

A workshop on ‘Bone and Joint Pain Care’ was organized on 18th May, 2017 for Pre-Primary and Primary teachers. Dr. Nikunj Agarwal, Consultant Orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeon at Fortis Healthcare discussed with the teachers on osteoporosis and osteoarthritis symptoms, characteristics and preventive measures in terms of diet and exercises, conservative and therapeutic methods to deal with the pain and joint care.

A workshop at National Science Centre was attended by 49 students of class VIII. The various activities demonstrated on sphere projector were solar system and climate change. They were given personal attention in the Biotech lab & science on sphere and shown di�erent highly advanced instruments and techniques used in biotechnology.

On the occasion of 3rd International Yoga Day, young yoga enthusiasts from classes V to XII displayed their remarkable zeal towards various asanas by maintaining postures, performing deep meditation exercises and exhibiting great flexibility. The children displayed complete coordination of mind, body and soul. The celebration highlighted the importance of maintaining good health and healthy lifestyle.

A workshop for EVMS teachers was organized on 30th June, 2017 by Ms. Sayee Lakshmi, author of History section in Harper and Collins book ‘Expeditions’.

The workshop was divided into two sessions. In the first session, Ms Sayee Lakshmi observed that teachers need to adopt technology aided and child centred teaching methodologies and emphasized to design creative individual and group classroom activities, organize outdoor learning experiences, hands on activities, and facilitate a process of self-learning among the pupils by connecting with their natural and human made environment.

The second session was interactive and activity involving all the teachers to prepare comprehensive lesson plans on di�erent topics to improve the learning outcomes of students and foster in them a positive attitude towards environment.
