What is a fingerprint?
A profile of a text, person or organization in concepts (keywords) each with its relative weight
Concepts in a fingerprint are selected by comparing the data set with a thesaurus which contains all relevant concepts
A complex set of algorithms determines the selection and weight of each concept in the fingerprint
Fingerprints are created from both the search texts as the texts in the database(s)

Enige jaren geleden verscheen het rapport Grond voor Grondgebondenheid van de noordelijke milieufederaties en Groningen Tegen Bio-industrie (GTB). Zij lieten zien, dat de veestapel van de drie noordelijke provincies anno 1996 al meer mest produceerde dan in de landbouw kan worden afgezet bij een min of meer ecologisch verantwoord mestbeleid. Zie ook kaart van mestoverschot naar regio. Het teveel aan mest is niet het gevolg van de intensieve veehouderij, maar komt van de melkveehouderijen. Als de mest van 1998 met een volpropstrategie en de fosfaatnormen van 2005 over al het bouw- en grasland wordt verdeeld, is er in Groningen en Drenthe nog steeds een "tekort" aan fosfaat, maar dat wordt ruimschoots goedgemaakt door de overproductie uit Friesland. Op een totaal van 34,7 miljoen kilo geproduceerd fosfaat had Noord Nederland anno 1998 een mestoverschot van 0,6 miljoen kilo fosfaat. Bij een realistischer afzetscenario (zonder alle gewassen met mest vol te proppen) wordt het overschot nog groter. Verplaatsing van vee naar het Noorden.In 1999 werd voorgesteld om ter ontlasting van andere, zwaar met ammoniak overbelaste provincies 500 bedrijven met rundvee naar de noordelijke provincies te verplaatsen. Die zouden er dan in het Oldambt in de provincie Groningen bij kunnen, want daar is een lokaal mesttekort. Een "lokaal" mesttekort betekent alleen maar dat er in een bepaalde gemeente meer landbouw dan veeteelt wordt bedreven.
