LAST WEEK
Speaker Last WeekLast Week our guest speaker was
our very own fellow Rotarian, Paul,The Amazing Lembo! Paul is one ofonly four restorers of magic appara-tus in the world. Paul has been amagician for 50 years. He said thatmagicians collect ‘stuff’. After 50years of collecting he has become acollector. David Copperfield is buy-ing up all of the major collectors ofmagic apparatus and will have thebiggest collection in the world. He did
say that his collection, which I have seenand am amazed by, is considered a smallcollection and probably not going to begarnered by David.
Paul showed us many before and afterphotos of items he has restored. It wasabsolutely amazing to see what he couldrebuild of some really sorry-looking pieces. One bird cage trick that he recreated lookedlike just some mangled pieces of wire. Herebuilt the whole trick with the help of his700 volume library. When Paul recreates apiece for another magician he also buildsone for himself. He has acquired a fantas-tic collection of magic apparatus.
During his question and answer sec-tion Paul told us that any magician whouses rabbits has to pay a $30/year for alicense. We can go buy a rabbit for a pet (ortake home and cook for dinner), but magi-cians have to pay for a license to havethem. They (the government) actually comeout twice a year to check on the rabbits. Some laws are too stupid to even question.
We would like to thank Paul for a funand interesting program.

Thank You FromFrank Grey and FamilyDear fellow Rotarians,
I wanted to make sure that you knowhow very much I, Cheri and the whole fam-ily appreciate everything everyone did tohelp us get through these recent weeksafter the loss of our beloved daughterMeghan. How the Club and all my fellowRotarians and friends responded was trulyhumbling.
Fortunately, many if not most of you,had some opportunity to get to knowMeghan over the years. She loved familynight, and even drove down from Tallahas-see her first year of college to be there. I’msure Rotary had something to do as wellwith her being involved in Interact andgetting the Relay for Life team together atFSU last year, having witnessed first handwhat our Club did for the Relay. Thankfully, since neither her mother or I are shoppers, she agreed to do the shopping for the giftsfor one of the families for our last RotaryChristmas project, which she had a greattime doing, spending some additional timewith her mother.
While I will do my best to thank every-one personally, these past weeks seemsomewhat of a blur, so if I forget someoneit’s certainly not intentional. As Meghanwould have said, what all of you did was“amazing!” What a load was taken off ofour family.
In my humble opinion, there is no bet-ter example of our motto, “Service AboveSelf” than what was recently displayed by
Frank Grey continued on page 7.

Boot Camp Letter FromAn Alabama Farm KidDear Ma and Pa,
I am well. Hope you are. Tell BrotherWalt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corpsbeats working for old man Minch by a mile.Tell them to join up quick before all of theplaces are filled.
I was restless at first because you gotto stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. but I amgetting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt andElmer all you do before breakfast is smoothyour cot, and shine some things. No hogs toslop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood tosplit, fire to lay. Practically nothing. Mengot to shave but it is not so bad, there’swarm water. Breakfast is strong on trim-mings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and otherregular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you
can always sit by the two city boys that liveon coffee. Their food plus yours holds youuntil noon when you get fed again. It’s nowonder these city boys can’t walk much.
We go on “route marches,” which theplatoon sergeant says are long walks toharden us. If he thinks so, it’s not my placeto tell him different. A “route march” isabout as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we allride back in trucks.
The country is nice but awful flat. Thesergeant is like a school teacher. He nagsa lot. The Captain is like the school board.Majors and colonels just ride around andfrown. They don’t bother you none. Thisnext will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing.I keep getting medals for shooting. I don’tknow why. The bulls-eye is near as big asa chipmunk head and don’t move, and itain’t shooting at you like the Higgett boys athome. All you got to do is lie there allcomfortable and hit it. You don’t even load

your own cartridges. They come in boxes. Then we have what they call hand-to-handcombat training. You get to wrestle withthem city boys. I have to be real carefulthough, they break real easy. It ain’t likefighting with that ol’ bull at home. I’m aboutthe best they got in this except for that TugJordan from over in Silver Lake. I only beathim once. He joined up the same time asme, but I’m only 5’6" and 130 pounds andhe’s 6’8" and near 300 pounds dry.
Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurryand join before other fellers get onto thissetup and come stampeding in.
Your lovingdaughter,Alice

Scott McPhersonLast night there was a celebration party
for our newly elected Mayor, ScottMcPherson. Scott has a lot to offer the cityand they must know that because he wonby a landslide. Congratulations, Scott!
Boat ParadeThe Progressive Air Chasco Boat Pa-
rade was a huge success thanks to Brentand Lisa Simon and their wonderful team ofworkers. I can’t say that it went off withouta hitch, we’ll talk about that later, but therain held off and the crowds loved it. MikeAlstott arrived a little late, was given a keyto the city by Mayor Dan Tipton, signedautographs, had pictures taken and wasquickly escorted back to his boat. TheBlackhawk flew over the parade route butthe parachuter was unable to jump as thewinds had picked up considerably. Thecrowds enjoyed the parade and catchingbeads being thrown by the guests on theboats.
Grand Prize ($2,500.00) for best overallboat went to Eberbach Plastic Surgery fortheir ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ boat. FirstPlace, for profit, went to Clearwater/Tar-
pon Springs RV Campground, non-profitwent to Trinity Rotary, family went to thefamily of Joseph O’Drain, and school wentto Florida Gulf Coast Atlantic University.
The ‘hitch’ was a little problem withthe dignitary boats. One wouldn’t start sothey grabbed their signs and went ontoanother boat that already had enoughpeople on it. They didn’t get too far when itstarted to sink, a speaker floated off and isnow part of the coral reef, and they dockedat the next pier where several dignitariesdisembarked. Hopefully they went tosomeone’s home and at least got to watchthe parade.
