ThermoGen Power Services Inc. is a Canadian-
Based company that specializes in conducting
power plant performance evaluation services for
power generation, engineering service and EPC
companies around the world.
Our goal is to provide flexible and innovative
services to power generation companies looking to
measure, optimize, model, monitor or forecast
power plant performance in a cost-effective
manner.
We’ve combined field services with engineering
analysis to provide power generators a competitive
edge by optimizing their equipment performance.
The benefits directly impact their financial returns in
the short and long term.
Who we are?
Engineering TeamThermoGen Power Services Inc. has a team of
experienced performance engineers that specialize
in conducting on-site field evaluations as well
creating plant models to measure, diagnostic and
optimize power plant performance.
We specialize in analyzing the performance of:
Gas Turbines
Steam Turbines
Combined Cycles
Fossil Fuel Boilers (PC & CFBB)
Reciprocating Engines
Wind Turbines
Most of our engineers speak several languages
including English, Spanish and French, that
translates in providing fast on-site evaluations
around the world. This skill allows our team to
quickly gain additional insight on specific issues on
site removing language as a potential
communication or cultural barrier.

LTSA Periodic Performance Evaluation
Before and After Outage Evaluation
Remote Services
TGPS works together with customers that have Long Term Service
Agreements with the OEMs of power generation equipment that include
performance guarantees. TGPS ensures that the guarantees are
evaluated properly in accordance with the contractual service agreement
and the applicable protocols. Most of our engineers have worked for the
major OEMs and are fully aware of the contractual details to ensure our
customers are fully covered.
TGPS can evaluate your equipment performance before and after an
outage to ensure the return on investment made on equipment upgrades
and plant improvements is accomplished. Our group has produced and
conducted hundreds of “Before and After” tests which can clearly
quantify the effect and added value of the modifications purchased for
your plant. This service also is conducted during major outages to
identify potential performance shortfalls after maintenance conducted on
the equipment.
TGPS is all about results, so we provide the services to monitor your
plant performance without the need to spend a fortune on IT equipment.
We have experienced that frequently evaluating with certainty the
performance of your plant equipment is more effective than collecting
every second data from you plant that not many people cares. We
translate data to information and provide recommendations for you to
take decisions effectively. We will use the latest telecommunications
technologies to share data and get in touch most of the times in a
monthly basis.
ThermoGen Power Services provides a wide range of testing services
to companies that build, operate and/or own power plants around the
world. TGPS can act as a consultant to witness or to execute the
performance evaluation programs.
Test Execution
Test Witness
New Unit/Plant Thermal Performance Evaluation
Produce and execute a test program based on the contractual
requirements of the project, this includes creating test procedures,
bringing to site precision instrumentation and providing the final results
report.
If a different party is responsible for proving performance, we can review
and verify the test protocol, witness the performance test and verify the
submitted test reports and calculations.
This is a list of typical evaluation programs we get involved.
TGPS will conduct/witness the performance evaluation to ensure that the
guarantees are evaluated in accordance with the internationally accepted
protocols (ASME, IEC, ASTM, AGA, ISO etc…) and contractual
specifications. When purchasing equipment it is of the utmost
importance to ensure the supplier has satisfied its contractual
obligations. TGPS will provide you with independent verification that the
equipment manufacturer claims are met.

Services
TGPS can create a thermodynamics model of your plant.
Some of the purpose of the models we create are the following.
Evaluate Current Plant Performance
Total Plant Modeling
Financial/Performance Modeling
These models are either excel-based or programmed as an stand-alone
application for our customers to gain insight on the current performance
of their plant. After a short training period they can evaluate by
themselves the plant performance. These models can be used, for
example, to evaluate performance guarantees under Long-Term Service
Agreements and/or to evaluate the performance of the units before and
after scheduled maintenance.
These are more elaborated models that are used not only to evaluate but
also to understand the effects of plant modifications. These models take
a total-systems approach and are used to understand the current plant
capabilities and understand different upgrade/modification scenarios
under a wide range of conditions.
TGPS has worked with financial institutions, services and power
generation companies to validate the long-term effect of plant
performance modifications. The modeling services take into account not
only the current plant conditions, but also the long-term effect of
degradation, statistical analysis of pricing scenarios for fuel and
electricity as well as risk assessment and underwriting support. The
information generated from these services allow our customers to make
sound decisions on how to allocate their plant investments.
Our services include the following:
Long-term and short term analysis of renewable resources such as
wind and solar radiation.
Conduct risk analysis to account for different long-term cost and
price scenarios, equipment degradation and/or interconnectivity
costs.
Sensitivity analysis to estimate the impact of project costs, electricity
prices, fuel costs, financial structure, long term debt and costs of
capital over the main financial ratios such as NPV, IRR and Payback
period.
Include into the feasibility studies with accuracy the O&M costs of
the plant over an extended period to analyze the benefits of
Long-Term Service Agreement and or outsourcing the O&M activities.
Define and review the performance guarantees for the development
project.
Third-party audit for the technical specification of the project under
development.

Project Examples
TGPS conducted all the performance testing
related activities for a 365 MW Power Plant
Located in Mejillones, Chile.
The plant consists of two power generation
blocks (165MW each) powered by state-of-the-
art Circulating Fluidized Combustion Bed Boilers
(CFBB) that produce steam used by Steam
Turbines. This technology is proven to be the
cleanest coal power generation technology.
TGPS conducted the following activities. These
services were conducted while the plant operated
on coal and petcoke.
Total Plant Thermal Performance Test
Steam Turbine Thermal Performance Test

TGPS is an approved auditor for the grid
regulator of El Salvador.
Our company conducted a series of performance
evaluations as well a detailed cost analysis to
understand the cost of electricity from various
expense sources. This audit was approved by the
government authorities within a short frame
period.
The plant consisted of three blocks of
reciprocating engines, in total 15 reciprocating
engines were evaluated.
