In 1948 Mr Georg Geiss founded the company Maschi-nenfabrik Georg Geiss, whichhe managed until his death in
2002. He realised that plastics, a new material atthat time, is the future for manifold productionfacilities. Vacuum forming machines have beenproduced since 1955, after initially engaging in prototyping and tool manufacturing.
Based on forward-looking ideas, his companyenjoyed a steady growth over many decades.Essential ideas that influenced the progress ofvacuum forming technology were invented anddeveloped by him. Developments achieved underhis direction:- the first vacuum forming machine with ergonomical loading height
- the first bottom heater of a vacuum forming machine
- the first stepless control of heating elements- the first electronic machine control and- the first clamping frame adjustable in both axes.
He paved the way for the use of modern tech-nologies, for the introduction of future-orientedmanagement concepts and for the long-term success of a medium-sized German company. In 2003 the status changed into an incorporatedcompany.

Pressure forming and Twin-Sheet-equipment
This equipment complements the universal vacuum forming machine by adding pressureforming and Twin-Sheet. This option is availablein 4 variations which are:- pneumatic (max. 70 kN)- motorised (max. 200 kN)- motorised boost (max. 320 kN)- locked hydraulically (max. 2 MN).

The sheet loader allows auto-mation of the production processstraight from the pallet. Any material thickness can behandled. All suction units can beselected and stored via program.Special control and design features prevent blanks fromsticking.
Roll feeder
All machine types can be equipped to processroll material. The combination sheet loader – roll feeder is also possible.

Fast tool clamping system
The fast clamping system performs 4 importantfunctions of the tool change: taking off new toolfrom fork-lift truck, aligning on machine table,clamping in machine, lifting of mould off machine table to hand over to fork-lift truck. This enables one man to do the tool change inthe shortest time possible. On request, we canalso fit retractable ball rollers. Tool change overwagons are also available. In this case, everytool needs to be equipped with a closed bottomplate.
Window plate system
This option, invented by GEISS, patented and already successful installed in over 500 machines, replaces the fixed window plate!
The window plate system includes 4 separate plates positioned against each other like in an iris diaphragm. Our invention allows the stepless adjustment of both axes indepen-dently from one another! Except for our smallest sizes, the strokes are always the same.That machine axis which is directed from left to right (generally the longeraxis) allows a reduction by 1000 mm and the short axis over the widthof the machine, by 500 mm!
This means that our customers no longer need to have concerns aboutinvestment, organisation and storage of many different aperture plates.The operator is relieved of the necessity to change plates when changingsize. A correctly heated window plate, even of the right size, is alwaysavailable in the machine!

Clean room equipment
Class A shaped parts are increasingly required tohave clean room quality. To that effect the resultsare very positive. The measurements show that aclean room enclosure, along with a very carefulpreparation, can reduce the number of particlessuspended in the air within the cabin by 99.75 %!This is based on an additional set-up on a standard machine. Alternatively the clean roomequipment is available in stainless steel.

Heating systems with halogen elements
The “FLASH” heater element system can often cut heating timesin half. The productivity of the single-station vacuum formingmachine is equal to productivity of multi-station machines – without their drawbacks.
The power of each element is individually controlled (our standard!) and allows perfect adaptation to the most demandingapplications!
The low absorption at a wave length of 1 micrometer allowsdeep penetration of the radiation and perfect heating through ofeven very thick materials. Our halogen elements type “FLASH”are unrestricted applicable for all thermoforming materials! In the meantime nearly 400 machines equipped with our“FLASH” heating elements are operating successfully all over the world.

Over a period of 2 years, we developed a halogen element that combines several positive effects of the development to-gether with company PHILIPS. The new element considerably reduces the influence of colour and at the same time increasesthe efficiency of the heating. The power consumption as well as the heating times for typical applications are remarkablyreduced! Multi-color printed sheets of various thermoplastics are no longer a problem.

Trimming machine FZ 2000 x 1000
As with all other CNC trimming machines ofGEISS the nominal size is equal to the areasize trimmed with 5-axes. This size is ourmost popular standard size.

Since their development in 1984, it was our aim to offer a range of CNC trimming machines, which would hold a leading market position in respect of technology, quality and productivity. The advantages of continuouspath control, rigid portal design and high flexibility put our trimming machines very soon on the road to success. Sinumerik 840D control
The widely varying demands that we and our customers make on an NC control can nowadays only be met by the Sinumerik 840D. The inte-grated PC can meet all requirements with features such as modern datainterfaces, easy operation with top performance, extensive 5-axes processing package, comprehensive programming facilities and safety feature “Safety Integrated”. Trimming machine for light-duty applications
The current range of CNC trimming machines has been extended at the end of 2003 with the machinetype "ECO". This new development is designed for light-duty applications and is also priced very attractively. The axes achieve feed speeds up to 75 m/min. The PC based control Sinumerik 840DI by Siemens provides the same 5-axes functions of its "big brothers"; yet:The price is economical – without saving on quality and service!
In addition to plastics these trimming machines can also process wooden materials and aluminium.
During the first year after introduction of this machine type we succeeded to sell 25 machines world-wide. Yet another proof that this new development places us again "one step ahead".

CLASSIC trimming spindles
The CLASSIC trimming spindles have a toolclamping device that permits automatic toolchange. The particular feature of the CLASSICtrimming spindles is the interchangeable shaftunit. In the event of damage to the bearing, it is not necessary to remove and repair the complete spindle, but only the shaft unit. Also for these spindles we carry refurbished spindlespermanently in stock.
GEISS trimming spindles
GEISS trimming spindles have 2 protruding shaft ends. The direc-tion of rotation of these spindles can be inverted in seconds via program. The spindles are therefore especially suitable for the trimming of mouldings. GEISS spindles are available in 2 sizes. We have built up a very fast and unbureaucratic exchange andrepair service for GEISS trimming spindles, which we produce ourselves in every part in highest precision and which are subjectto most rigorous quality control. Refurbished spindles and newspindles are permanently available. The refurbished spindles areoffered to our customers at an extremely attractive price. Linear motors
The “Safety integrated” function and the high perfor-mance of Sinumerik, along with the proven portaldesign of our machines, allow the use of synchronouslinear motors. These linear direct drives accelerate themachine from 15 m/s2 up to a speed of 180 m/minwhich permits an increase in production of 40 to 100 %. In addition, this drive distinguishes itselfthrough extreme rigidity and contour precision, as themachines are equipped with direct measuring systemsand elimination of mechanical force transmission elements such as gears and belts. As there are hardly any mechanical components that might wear,these machines have a considerably longer life span.

Trimming
Equipment with shuttle table, sliding table and rotary table
The shuttle table is recommended for the loadingand unloading of big parts. It is designed as anadditional CNC axis. Protection is provided by lightbarriers or a safety laser scanner. The table movesalternately out of the machine at the left-hand andthe right-hand side. When the shuttle table is posi-tioned it shuts the machine case like a drawer orthe machine case is shut by vertically running rollerblinds.
Sliding tables move out of the machineto the front to facilitate the change ofworkpieces. Machines with centrescreens can be fitted with 2 such tables.For large formed parts, the sliding tablescan also be coupled.
The rotary table is designed as NC-axis. Workpieces can bechanged while the machine is working. Loading and unload-ing is at the same position so that the machines can easily beintegrated into production lines. Owing to these advantages,machines with rotary tables are frequently used in the automo-tive industry, for example for the processing of dashboards.The danger area of the rotary table is protected by a light barrier at the front and a safety laser scanner that preventstrespassing the light barrier.

Weakening of slush skins
To ensure the function of invisible airbags in motor vehicles, the slush skins of dashboards and door panelsmust be cut down to a very precise residual wall thickness. Our machines with ultrasonic cutting unit are perfectly suited for this application and are already inoperation in many factories. They are complemented by2 measuring sensors to compensate machine tolerancesand thermal expansion as well as protocol system for theprocess parameters.Our experience in the manufacture of the necessary cutting jigs makes us the preferred supplier to the automotive industry.
In addition to the measuring sensor on the sledge of the Z-axis for measur-ing and recording the work piece co-ordinates, a fixed sensor is availablefor automatic measuring of the machine axes and trimming tools as well as a laser system for tool setting and breakage monitoring. Measuring cyclesautomatically perform error compensation, tool compensation and zerooffsets are calculated and activated.
Measuring sensor and measuring cycles
The ideal complement to the control system for fast program creation directly on the workpiece via “teach-in”. The unit features integrated direction keysand supports all functions in all operating modes.

The TT-in-one series is a unique system which combines vacuum forming machine, feeder and CNC equipment into asingle unit. This fully automatic plant gives users a decisiveedge over competitors:- the in-process stock (between vacuum forming machine
and CNC machine) is no longer required, - the automation ensures a more uniform quality
of the products.An essential advantage is the improved precision in the inter-action of vacuum forming machine and CNC trimming. Due to smaller temperature differences the product materialsare less affected by stress and last longer when being processed further.

Horizontal bandsaw
Since 1962 we already offer our horizontal bandsaws in many sizes and in a variety of optional equipment. They are used for example to trim vacuumformed parts or to cut foam blocks. They are ideally suited to operate in tandem with our vacuum forming machines in production lines.
