Create keypads for all kinds of equipment and product categories based on your own concepts and plans. From development right through to realisation, we will carefully consider and hone your ideas together with you to ensure that a no-nonsense solution is achieved which is optimised for the specific application concerned.
Our approach centres on the function and integration of the-se interface elements. Within this context, we think it is important to provide opti-mum user friendliness, whilst at the same time preserving the simplicity and attractiveness of the design. We insist on a low-maintenance and ergonomic design that exudes style and also allows complete flexibility in terms of creating my-riad bespoke solutions. Our technicians and developers will be happy to assist you with the initial planning phase.
Here are some of the options we offer
• Transparent polyester films of various thicknesses
• Partially structured, with non-reflecting coating
• With viewing windows that are either crystal clear or have an
antiglare coating
• With backlit effect for light-emitting diodes and LED displays
• With electroluminescent film
• With flat and embossed keypad/with embossed edges
• Without mechanical pressure point or with tactile feedback
• Self-adhesive
• Permanently bonded to a carrier plate made from aluminium,
sheet steel or plastic
Keypads
Our membrane keypads ensure problem-free operation.
Suitability for extreme conditions
pecial requirements are often imposed on membrane key-pads such as “suitability for use in tropical climates”. In re-sponse to this particular challenge (like so many others), we can once again offer the ideal solutions. All we ask is that the requirements to be imposed on the final product are pre-cisely defined and properly discussed at the enquiry stage.
In particular, we must be made aware of any UV and wea-ther-related influences in advance, as it is not generally pos-sible to rely on standard materials in such cases.
The following pages provide details of the standard values associated with our various keypads. However, if you cannot find exactly what you are looking for in terms of characteristic values, please do get in touch, as we will generally be able to identify suitable materials and approaches.

Transparent polyester films of various thicknesses, structured and with a non-reflecting coating, with viewing windows that are either crystal clear or have an antiglare coating, with cut-outs for screens and displays, with backlit effect for light-emitting diodes and LED displays, electroluminescent film, with flat and embossed keypads or keypads with embossed edges, without mechanical pressure point or with tactile feedback, self-adhesive or permanently bonded to a carrier plate made from aluminium, sheet steel or plastic.
Lettering (in every imaginable colour) applied to the back by means of screen printing, transparent or exchangeable thanks to the use of insertable labels.
With punched out sections, drilled holes, milled pockets, fa-stening by means of studs or sockets, press-fitted or welded.
With such a huge range of production processes at our dis-posal, we can meet your every requirement and offer a vast array of options for creating bespoke solutions.

These keypads are ideal for bespoke and complex ope-rating systems, as they are extremely flexible in terms of their structure and offer all kinds of possibilities.
Application areas for PCB keypads• Mechanical and apparatus engineering• Information terminals, both inside and outside• Control engineering• Metrology• Many areas of medical engineering• Communications technology
Adding electronic components, such as keypad control-lers, to the PCB is a smart move,as this can reduce the construction height of the overall system.

Compared with snap discs, short-stroke keys pro-vide a much higher level of tactile feedback when you press the key. Able to withstand more than 3 million operations, they offer unrivalled endu-rance.

Another alternative that we can produce for you is the key-pad with “doming elements”. The term “doming” describes a type of finishing process, whereby non-yellowing, transpa-rent liquid resin is applied to a surface. Doming produces a 3D effect and it is this that enhances the appearance of the keypad.
This type of finishing process improves the keypad‘s durabi-lity and makes it both waterproof and resistant to abrasion.

Our illuminated keypads are ideal for certain ap-plication areas. The key feature of these keypads is that the individual keys are completely lit. A di-stinction is made between the two different types of technology involved: LED technology and electrolu-minescent technology. With LED technology, the luminous intensity remains constant, whereas in the case of electroluminescent film it is subject to a half-life period (see diagram on subsequent pages). The same design options are available as for the “standard keypads” (e.g. with embossing, etc.). The keypads can be equipped with additional LEDs as an option.

Electroluminescent materials are flat, flexible illumi-nants. As with a capacitor, there is a layer of phos-phorus particles between two electrodes. When an AC voltage is applied to the electrodes an elec-trical field is generated over the phosphorus and this causes it to emit light. These illuminants can be operated at voltages of between 40 V and 240 V and frequencies of between 50 Hz and 10 kHz.
Advantages of electroluminescent materials
• Very flat (approx. 0.2 mm, can be integrated into membrane keypads)
• Flexible (you can bend it)
• Low current consumption (at 110 V/400 Hz, approx. 0.15 mA without inverter)
• Low heat emission (approx. 1°C above ambient temperature)
• Extremely robust and highly resistant to vibrations and shocks
• Soft monochrome light (backlighting of displays)
Fields of application
• Backlighting of membrane keypads and LCDs
• Instrument lighting
• Emergency or night lamps
• Illuminated panels, flashing lights as a sales promotion tool
