Writing Contest
Have you recently taken or are currently taking a Writing
Intensive course? Or Do you simply enjoy writing?
Why not submit a paper or project to one of the writing awards
coordinated by the Campus Writing Program?
Prizes range from $100—$1000 for contest winners, depending on the
award.
Contests include:
Ekphrastic writing, from the Greek ekphrasis, meaning “to speak
out”, typically denotes poetry or creative writing concerning
itself with the visual arts, artistic objects, and/or highly visual
scenes.
Campus speech, protest and/or conflict resolution, essays
entered for this contest should look at the implications of the
First Amendment in these issues
Mizzou Advantage - Essays about one or more of the following
categories
Food for the Future: the culture, economics and production of
healthy, affordable food
Media of the Future: new ways to communicate, educate and
market
One Health/One Medicine: health solutions and the convergence
of human/animal medicine
Sustainable Energy: sustainable energy development,
distribution and education
If your writing doesn’t fit into any of the above award
categories, you can still be published in Artifacts: A Journal
of Undergraduate Writing.
This is a peer reviewed journal and would be an excellent item to add
to any resume! All submissions are due on April 6, 2018, so click

Scholarship
We are pleased to invite applications and nominations for the 2018
General Education Program/Hesburgh Awards for Student Academic
Achievement.
The TIAA-CREF Hesburgh Endowment Fund enables MU’s General
Education Program to award four $1,000 academic achievement
scholarships to one student from each of the four undergraduate
classes each spring. Students may apply for these awards or be
nominated by a faculty member.
Eligibility guidelines and application/nomination requirements.
Applications must be submitted no later than March 23 at 5 p.m

The Involvement Ambassadors are seeking new student team
members to promote involvement opportunities on campus. This
program is responsible for promoting the benefits of getting involved
in student organizations, on-campus employment, and other campus
programs and activities. Positions are paid hourly and serve students
by advising appointments and group presentations. These positions
will also assist with various events and programs within the Office of

Engagement, is seeking new student team members to help
Recognized Student Organizations succeed. All positions are paid
hourly, and ORG is seeking students with all levels of
experience. Positions focus on tasks such as communications,
finance and some event planning. The ideal candidate for this on-
campus job enjoys working with a wide variety of people. Hours vary

Event Techs.
The Missouri Student Unions is hiring part-time student Event
Management Ambassadors and Event Technicians. Our students
average 12 hours a week and benefits include: flexible schedules;
textbook scholarships; and free cap and gown upon graduation. Event
Ambassadors handle day-to-day operations of the event management
office, providing exceptional customer service and assisting with
conference and special event coordination. Event Technicians handle
day, evening, and/or weekend preparation of meeting rooms and event

Communications directors work in a variety of fields, including private
corporations, government agencies, non-profit organizations and
more. They oversee the information and communication that comes
from their companies and how the companies' messages are delivered
to the public. Communications directors are also responsible for
managing their companies' media and public relations. They are their
companies' spokespeople and work to develop and implement plans
for communicating their companies' main goals. They may hold press
conferences, write up press releases, respond to journalists and
reporters from TV and print media, and more.
Act as primary spokesperson and liaison for the company with
media in all markets.
Supervise news releases and the implementation of public
relations programs.
Manage press conferences and press coverage at all company
events.
Devise and implement the strategy, messaging and tools needed
to build the image of the company.
