The children's real mother died. They had a new stepmother. She was very mean.

She wanted to get rid of Hansel and Gretel. "Take the children to the forest and abandon them." said the wicked woman.

Hansel heard everything.

A few days later the wicked stepmother said "Let's go on a picnic in the forest." Gretel began to cry. She knew the stepmother had a wicked plan.

Then an old woman came out of the house and asked them to come in.

The old woman was a witch. She locked Hansel in a cage.

The witch told Gretel to collect wood for the fire. She was going to cook Hansel.

But Gretel pushed the old witch into the pot.

Gretel freed Hansel. The children took some of the witch's treasure.

They ran home. Their father was very happy to see them. The wicked stepmother was gone. They all lived happily ever after.
