    THERE IS ALWAYS

    HOPE

The poverty simulation was a quick way to put ourselves in the shoes of the impoverished and to really understandthe day to day struggles. We got to experience these difcult situations without having to deal with the consequencesof reality. However for someone who is living this life everyday we can only imagine.

During the poverty simulation a few of the struggles we experienced specifically were transportation, andunderstanding services. A few times we had to trade belongings, borrow from neighbors, and sacrifice other needs to

pay for transportation passes. Also there was miscommunication between the social services and the customercreating problems with unmet requirements or missing paperwork. This often used up valuable transportation passesthat can be equated to bus passes or gas money.

    PROBLEMS

    Locating resources

    Awareness

    Distance

the struggles that stemmed from the simulation can be translated into three problems...

    Locating resources.

there is a problem with the hassle of finding where resources are when communication technologies are limited.

    PROBLEMS

    Locating resources

    Awareness

    Distance

Not only is it hard to find the location but you have to ask, how can one acquire help that they are unaware of? Ifthere were clear advertising of the resources available, perhaps more individuals could be helped. This is wheredesign can step in to create awareness.

    PROBLEMS

    Locating resources

    Awareness

    Distance

The distance between help and the community in need, often seems to be less than ideal. Transportation in mostcases needs to be as efcient as possible, because going out of the way is often a burden. Its time to think aboutsingle parents, families with one vehicle, and the daily bus commuter.

These resources, that we believe to be essential for living, can be categorized into three sectionsfood, health andshelter.

The three vertical lines represents each category while the circle encompassing them symbolizes the human. Theabstract, geometric nature of the mark lens itself to be easily replicated by anyone. Because of its simplicity, thecommunity can adopt it for their own purposes regarding help.

This mark is the identity of our system.
