THERE ARE RIGHT TRIANGLES ALL AROUND US!

Before we learn how to solve PRECALCULUS level trigonometric problems, let's review your trigonometric

skills from Geometry...

Use the diagram to find the length across the suspension bridge

Trigonometry is useful in finding the lengths that are difficult to measure.  Observe...

A pilot must approach an airport at a descent angle (angle of depression) of 11 degrees toward the runway.  If the plane is flying at an altitude of 3200 ft, what distance (d, in miles) along the ground should the pilot start the descent?

A tent is supported by a cable stretched between two poles at a height of 80 inches.  The sides of the tent make an angle of 58 degrees with the ground.

How wide is the tent at the bottom?

Two buildings are 60 feet apart across the street.  A person on top of the shorter building finds the angle of elevation of the roof of the taller building to be 20 degrees and the angle of depression to the base of the tall building to be 30 degrees.

What is the height of the taller building?

WOW!!  You have done an exceptional job.

You are the BEST TRIGONOMETERS!!

Now that you have "survived" trigonometric functions...I want you to reflect and describe what was the hardest topic and why.  Describe what was the easiest topic and why.  Is there something you would like me to explain one more time before we take our skill assessment on 4.7 & 4.8 & 4.4/4.5 the next time we see one another?
