A Note From the Author
Dear Grade 5 Theory student,
Welcome to Grade 5, and you should know that it's not as difficult as one would expect it to be after the
enormous jump from Grade 2 to 3 and then Grade 3 to 4. The new concepts on the syllabus are musical forms,
composing with modulation and woodwind instruments. The rest of the exam concentrates on extending and refining
skills learned in previous grades.
For students 'jumping in' at Grade 5 level, it's a good idea to first establish a solid grounding in the basics of
harmony and rudiments by working through the Grade 3 and 4 BlitzBooks.

A mountain of thanks once again, to my friends and family for being so patient and supportive, to my gorgeous children Thomas and Courtney, and of course to my brilliant husband Andrew, without whom there would simply be no books.
