In the first they are introduced to the writing about the past in antiquity, observing the questions linked to the use of oral and written sources and the characteristics of political and military history of the time. Students will learn about the medieval historiography and its forms, followed by gradual historiographic shift away from the antique and medieval ways of writing history and the first attempts of forming history as a science, with its own object of research and methodology. In this context the emphasis is put on the positivistic period in Europe and Slovenian lands. Students also get familiar with the most important historiographic trends of the ! th  century, especially those, favouring a global and interdisciplinary historiography, f.e. the "rench #nnales school. In this context the differences between particular approaches and research of  political, social, economic and cultural history as well as historical anthropology are observed, together with corresponding methods. # special emphasis is also dedicated to the basic questions of historiography, namely, what is history $and historiography%, what are historical facts, sources, historical truth, objectivity, as well as to the actuali&ation of these questions, observing f.e. the contemporary public uses of history.

Theories and methodologies of historiography

Students get an insight into the basic characteristics of the history of historiography, observing

the modification of the historical science and the circumstances, which in different historical

 periods affected the writing of history.

In the first they are introduced to the writing about the past in antiquity, observing the

questions linked to the use of oral and written sources and the characteristics of political andmilitary history of the time. Students will learn about the medieval historiography and its

forms, followed by gradual historiographic shift away from the antique and medieval ways of 

writing history and the first attempts of forming history as a science, with its own object of 

research and methodology. In this context the emphasis is put on the positivistic period in

Europe and Slovenian lands.

Students also get familiar with the most important historiographic trends of the ! th century,
