This past October and November, the Board of Deacons conducted our annual Thanksgiving Gift Card program. Once again, our focus was our neighbors who live in the area immediately surrounding the church. Our intent was not only to ensureour neighbors were able to enjoy awonderful Thanksgiving, but also to show the love of Christ to our community.
The message of Loving, Caring, Sharing, and Serving our community is
one we take seriously, and we believe that we are making a difference. Here is some of the feedback we received:
“I want to thank you for your generosity for giving at the holiday season. Your blessing and gift card are sincerely appreciated. Happy Holidays to you!”
“I’m very grateful for the kind-hearted people who are involved in this Thanksgiving feast. May God continue to bless you and us all as only He can.”

2017 Thanksgiving Gift Card Appreciation
2 | Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church
Greetings, Cote Brilliante family,
In the vibrant, vital history book of Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church, a well-lived and well-written page has turned in 2018, which marks a new chapter in the rich history of our church.
You, Cote Brilliante, have elected and installed your second “Permanent” Pastor in the history and life of Cote Brilliante since 1956. By doing so, you are making a statement that you want church ministry in Cote Brilliante to continue and you have committed to supporting and serving in this ministry.
Hovering around the blank pages of this new chapter is a vast array of opportunities that are critical to the ministry and life of the church, and are important to moving our neighborhood from survival mode to a healthy, thriving, self-sustaining village.
Envision this new village of creative, productive citizens who support a greater good. In the process of creating this village, we further build on the rich legacy of Cote Brilliante by inspiring others
to enter into a personal relationship with our God, where they, too, find salvation and eternal life. Also in the process, we enrich our worship experience, augment our spiritual growth and further build on the nurturing love of our fellowship with God and one another. In other words, we have fun and enjoy what we are called to do!
As a loving, caring, sharing, serving congregation, God shows favor on Cote Brilliante. Through the best of times and through the test of time, Cote Brilliante has withstood the challenge of time. And there will be new challenges ahead. But by the grace of God we shall overcome the challenges, meet the demands of ministry and serve as a beacon to salvation. God will continue to provide the resources and the capacity to do His will in service to our community of His people.
Thus, the now-blank pages of tomorrow’s history are written today, on our watch. The ministry and business of Cote Brilliante are in our hands. We must handle them with the care, compassion and tenacity of the Gospel. With the support and participation of each and every member we will be successful. Everyone has a purpose. Everyone has a part. If you are not clear about your role, ask God for your assigned position. You are important to, and have a place in, the history and future of Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church. The will of God takes us where the grace of God protects us, where the hand of God supplies our every need, where the power of God sustains us.
I am honored to serve along with you as pastor and co-laborer in this ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for granting me this privilege!
In the Love of Christ, with God’s Peace and Blessings.
Reverend Crumpton

COTE BRILLIANTE ACTIVITIES
Christmas Youth Activities
The Christian Education Committee approved a budget for the youth of the church to have several activities last December. Making tie blankets for the seniors in Gillespie Village was one of the activities.
Bobbie Blunt, Eden Seminary student interning in Youth Ministry at Cote Brilliante, collaborated with Girl Scout Leaders Briah Fleming and Jaylaa Jones. They were joined by many volunteers including Kim Johnson, Annette Hudson, Jean Crumpton, Pasadena Weathersby, Gale Hardeman, Anna Nicholas, Arlene Martin, Mary Franklin, Dr Lee Blount, Dr Verase Parks, and Yvonne Washington.
On Saturday, December 23rd, 13 Gillespie Village residents joined the youth in the Fellowship Hall as they performed their Christmas play. Everyone sang Christmas carols and shared a pizza lunch. The hand-crafted tie blankets and warm socks were presented to the seniors, and everyone enjoyed the activities. Tie blankets and socks were delivered to Gillespie Village residents who could not attend the festivities.
Holiday bowling at the Tropicana Bowling Lanes was a joyous time of fellowship and fun competition. Everyone had a ball.

The guest speaker was Dr Michael Gerdine from West End Chiropractic and Rehab Center. Dr Gerdine reminded us that our bodies are perfectly made, and that we have a responsibility to take care of them by exercising and by eating healthy foods like vegetables and fruits.
Healthy snacks were provided, and both blood pressure and blood glucose screenings were completed.
The next scheduled forum will be held on April 29th. The speaker will be Licensed Dietician Reshaunda Thornton, who is the owner of Better Vessel Nutrition, a practice specializing in exercise and wellness.—Submitted by Flora Robinson

Thank you, Cote Brilliante family and friends, for supporting the Adventurers’ 9th Annual Blues for Lovers Concert. Denise Atty and Friends brought the house down with their soulful, spirited musical renditions! Everyone experi-enced a great time and wonderful fellowship.
The Adventurers create social opportunities for fellowship beyond the Cote Brilliante worship experience with various events throughout the year.
Our annual fundraising event supports the Media Ministry and various Outreach Ministries like adopting a family to help support their needs during the holiday season. We also, on occasion, support our senior community.
We invite you to consider joining our organization. See Elder Milton Robinson for more information.—Submitted by Milton Robinson, President, Adventurers

COTE BRILLIANTE ACTIVITIES
The congregation of CBPC cast their votes in October of 2017 to have Reverend Clyde R Crumpton become the “Permanent” Pastor of Cote Bril-liante at the conclusion of his three-year contract in January, 2018.
To acknowledge and celebrate the beginning of this renewed rela-tionship, the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy commissioned an installation service. On Sunday, February 18th at 3p, members of the Cote Brilliante family and the Presbytery gathered to both participate in and witness the installation.
In his remarks, Reverend Crumpton stated that he is honored to serve in ministry with the Cote Brilliante family. He commented that he was very grateful and humbled by the experience and gives thanks and praise to God for the opportunity to serve. In addition, he gave thanks to the Presbytery Commission, to each participant and to the entire Cote Brilliante family.
The beautiful flowers for the occasion were donated anonymously, and the Boosters prepared and served a wonderful reception in the Fellow-ship Hall.

MSU Dedicated Dowsing-Bell Plaza In Ceremony Prior To Egg BowlMississippi State honored its first African-American student- athletes, Frank Dowsing Jr (brother of Virginia Tolliver) and Robert Bell, with the dedication of the Dowsing-Bell Plaza on the north end of Davis Wade Stadium prior to the 90th Battle for the Golden Egg on Thanksgiving night, 2017.
The ceremony included remarks from MSU President Dr. Mark Keenum and Director of Athletics John Cohen.
“Frank Dowsing and Robert Bell are heroes and their legacies will forever be remembered at Mississippi State,” Cohen said. “The Dowsing-Bell Plaza will serve as a tribute to their courage as they paved the way for others in all sports on our campus.”
In 1969, Dowsing, a prep star from Tupelo, and Bell, a native of Meridian, enrolled at MSU and were members of the Bulldog freshman football team. A year later, they joined the varsity squad and guided State to its first winning season in seven years.
Dowsing was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference defensive back selection in 1971 and 1972. As a senior, Football News named him a first-team All-American. That same fall, he became the first player in MSU history to earn the prestigious honor of National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete.
Dowsing, who was voted Mr Mississippi State in October of 1972, finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in interceptions with 10. He died at the age of 42 on July 11, 1994.
Bell, an inspirational leader on the defensive line, was a regular starter and a fan favorite. An honor student at Meridian High School, he went on to earn three athletic letters as a Bulldog.
