Andres states that Cross Country doesnot require a significant amount ofdedication. So, if people wanted to jointhe Cross Country Team, they would nothave to sacrifice a lot of time. Andresnormally runs very long runs. Four milesis the normal run that he competes in.However, Andres has ran the halfmarathon before. The half marathon is agrueling 13.1 mile run that anybody canparticipate in. While running, one riskthat people need to watch out for ispulling a muscle. Andres has pulled hishamstring before. He stated that is wasnot an excruciating pain, but the musclewas sore and when he moved it, it wouldhurt. He gritted his teeth and finished therace.

Andres Mercado has been in the schooldistrict since 1st grade. He states thatCross Country has been a rather newinterest that popped up only a few yearsago. He went to Valentine ElementarySchool. Let's Watch a Movie

Subliminal Thought

FAD'sBy Tammy Venhuda

Despite the fact the movie plot wasawful, the costumes were stunningand accurate to the era. The mensattire expressed who their characterwas. For example, Jays clothespresented him as a rich andsophisticated man, which he is. Forthe women, the stylist did anamazing job matching the color tothe character. For example, JordanBaker (Elizabeth Debicki) isportrayed as a very slick andsneaky character. Therefore, herbeing dressed in black. All in all,the movie was not impressive andis not recommended.

The Huntington Hype

By Joshua Duncan (Inspired by Mrs. Nordsten)

In 2012 Oxi-Gels started to becomepopular. Originating from Japan andselling for a ridiculous price of $10,people still bought them. Peopleclaim it☂s because of the soft gelgrip, but in reality it☂s only becausepeople like the appearance. Onceover 10 people have the pencil everysingle person has to have it.In 2013, fads are starting to revolvearound music. Such as OneDirection, a group of 5 teenageBritish/ Irish pop singers. Theybecame a boy band in 2010 on theX-Factor UK. Although some wouldconsider their music great, mostbecome fans because of their looks.Everyone picks a favorite. Apopular choice is Harry Styles. Therefore, him being a fad on hisown.

Although a popular choice bymany, The Great Gatsby did notlive up to the novel written by F.Scott Fitzgerald. From beginningto end the movie was uneventfuland slow. In the intro NickCarraway (Tobey Maguire) isspeaking about Jay Gatsby(Leonardo DiCaprio) in pasttense. This reveals Jay wouldlater be shot and murdered.Throughout the film the spotlightwas on the wrong characters. There was too much focus on therelationship between TomBuchanan (Joel Edgerton) andDaisy Buchanan (CareyMulligan). The focus should havebeen on Daisy and Jays☂ fight forlove. The movie is placed in thetwenties, therefore having thecharacters use the eras ☜slang☝.Although it was interestinghearing new phrases, the term oldsport was overused. The phrasegot annoying and distracted fromthe actual dialogue.

Something that is very popularfor a short time; a craze. No oneexactly knows why fads happen. Some assume it☂s bandwagoning. For example, after the LA Kingswon the Stanley Cup familiesstarted buying merchandise andbecoming the number one ☜fan☝.A fad could also catch on by oneperson wearing or doingsomething and other peoplecopying. Such as Silly Bands. In2010-2011 Silly Bands were huge.Girls, and sometimes even guys, wore them up there arm. Kidswould spend all lunch and breakshowing off and trading thedifferent shapes.

Subliminal thought is a conceptin which an idea slips below aperson☂s conscious perception, butis still able to evoke a response. Before it was deemed illegal, subliminal thought was used inmovie theatres to make people goout and buy popcorn and coke. The creator of this idea was JamesVicary. This technique was doneby flashing a quick slogan thatsaid, ☜Eat Popcorn☝ or ☜DrinkCoca-Cola☝ during the movie. This slogan would flash in 3/1000of a second at five secondintervals. It would work because aperson☂s conscious perceptionwould be

focused on the movie, leaving theimage to slip into yoursubconscious perception. Manypeople have believed anddisbelieved this concept sinceJames Vicary said his wholemovie advertising technique was ahoax. So even to this day, scientists are still searching forsufficient evidence to prove thatsubliminal thought works ordoesn☂t work.
