It’s November already and fall is finally in the air. The holidays are just around the corner with the end of 2011 rapidly approaching. What a wild rollercoaster year we have had! One minute we are all singing the market improvements, and then the next minute the consumer confidence index is the lowest it has been in 40 years. One day the stock market is saying “up for the year,” the next we aresaying “worst quarter since 2009.” Stop! This is not the way to live our lives. Are we going to give up control of our life to this endless stream of negativeheadlines?

The other day a good friend of mine said, “The market is down 5%. That means 95% is working just great.” The way everyone is acting, however, you would think it is the other way around. We are causing our own slowdown by blaming thesituation.
To get to success in life one has to commit to 3 steps:
Take control of success for yourself. Only you can make you a success. You need to be willing to do the things necessary to succeed. Can you imagine what would happen if everyone today said they would make everyday better, no ex-cuses? The momentum would be unstoppable!
You must set high goals — and then do whatever it takes to achieve them. In the light of all the economic events of the year, I’ve really thought back to put into perspective where I’m at in reaching my goals for 2011. I keep something called a vision board both in my home and at the office. On this vision board, my family and I have posted pictures symbolizing our greatest memories from the past and goals for the future. The board helps us gauge where we’re at in the course of meeting and exceeding our goals, both in personal and in business.
You need to react positively to the negative, and move forward toward your goals. As a business owner myself, I’ve spent many waking hours and sleepless nights brainstorming new ideas and ways to stay ahead of the market and keep expanding in the right direction. Just the other day, I stumbled across a great quote by the great Albert Einstein: “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” This got me thinking about the importance of persever-ance. Life is going to throw us challenges, but we have to figure out not only how to conquer those challenges, but how we can stick with them until we reach that inevitable victory.
Orison Marden suggests that we triumph over our environment by choosing how we respond to the things that happen to us. As I’ve pointed out many times, stuff happens; good stuff, bad stuff, frustrating stuff, and hopeful stuff. The stuff that happens isn’t important. How we respond to it is. You create your own “favorable conditions” by choosing to react positively to the negative stuff that happens to you.
The recovery starts with you. Let’s all make it happen together! I wish everyone a
great Thanksgiving and holiday season.
