Making a change in the world starts with realizing you have the power and ability to change who you are. One of the most important life skills you can possess is knowing how to react to circumstances around you.
The other day I was listening to “A Minute with Maxwell,” a daily inspirational video with teachings by John C. Maxwell. The word of the day was selflessness - the ability to care for others, see others, help others, and live beyond the small limitations of your own personal real estate. John explained that people are always in need of someone to give of themselves to help them be successful in life. This is one of my greatest passions - imparting knowledge and wisdom that will help them look at a situation differently and see solutions that help them reach for a better life.
I believe we need to be reaching out to people in our own communities who are in need of help. In light of the recent tragedies happening around the world, I am more thankful than ever for my loving, healthy family. My thankfulness for my family was heightened when I learned of one family’s tragic story here in Orange County. You may have heard of a precious little girl in our community named Maddie James, who sadly passed away of an inoperable brain tumor on March 13, 2011 after being diagnosed just months before (maddiejamesfoundation.org/her-story). Maddie’s dream was to raise money to help complete the Seaside Learning Center - an ocean-side learning program at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. She loved anything having to do with the ocean, and her greatest joy was attending the Ocean Institute’s Summer camp. Her parents are determined to make that dream a reality by setting a goal to raise $1 million dollars by what would have been Maddies’ 6th birthday (June 11, 2011).
I have a proposal for each of you. Our magazine is direct mailed to over 250,000 homes in Orange County. If each household contributes just one dollar, we will have easily raised $250,000 toward this foundation. The community has pulled together
and raised $324,657.97 so far. Let’s pull together as TheHomeMag community and help to create something bigger than
ourselves. Do not wait a single moment to start improving the world around us!
