Previous first place winners are not eligible. There is an early bird entry fee of $10.00 (check or money order) and an additional $15.00 (check or money order) which may be combined and should be sent with the application if you plan to make use of our professional accompanist. This must be postmarked by January 10, 2014. Both fees are non refundable. After that date until the postmarked deadline of January 27, 2014, the entry fee will be $15.00 and accompanist fee will be $20.00. Applicant should prepare three selections: 1. One aria from an opera or operetta (see LIST A) 2. Two art songs* (see LIST B) At the January 27, 2014 deadline, the first thirty completed applications will be accepted, and the competition will be closed to further entries. All contestants will receive an additional information package prior to the event containing important rules and guidelines. Time sheets and instructions for February 15 will be sent to you after the deadline of January 27, 2014. The top four winners will sing at the February Guild luncheon . The prize money will be divided into two segments. The first half will be given at the competition and the remainder will be presented at the luncheon. It is important to know that performing at the luncheon is part of your prize. Competition schedule begins at 10:00 AM. An announcement of the winners will occur at approximately 3:30 PM in the Stavros Great Room followed by a reception. All contestants must be present.

FIRST  PRIZE:  $750.00  SECOND  PRIZE:  $500.00 THIRD  PRIZE:  $400.00  and  HONORABLE  MENTION  

*  FSOG  promotes  classical  singing.    No  belting  will  be  allowed  as  it  can  damage  your  young  voice.    On  your  application,  teachers  must  sign  off  on  all  selections  as  to  the  appropriateness  for  your  voice  and  training.  

• Age-appropriate repertoire is suggested. High School Singers should not sing extensive arias from major operatic works. Major arias from Grand Opera will not be approved for high school repertoire.

• One aria from an opera or operetta from standard vocal literature.

• All other arias must be approved by competition committee.

• Arias, such as a selection from Twenty-Four Italian Arias (Hal Leonard), would be a good challenge.

• Two art songs (with at least one of them in Italian); both can be in Italian or one in Italian and the other one in English, French, Latin, or German.

• Other literatures from which you can make your selections are:

• Expressive Singing Anthology (Van Christy, ed.)

• Pathways of Song

• Anthology of Italian Songs of the 17th and 18th Centuries

• Italian Arias of the Baroque and Classical Period the La Flora Collection

PLEASE NOTE:

• You choose the first selection. Of the two selections you make from List B, the judges will indicate which selection they would like you to perform.

• There is a dress code for your performance which will be included in your Contestant Package which you will receive prior to the event.

• The Contestant Package will also include a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) guide to walk you through the day.
