ST. JOHNSBURY ATHENAEUM HOSTS LECTURE

ON THE WOMENS RIGHTS MOVEMENT

St. Johnsbury, VTThe St. Johnsbury Athenaeum is pleased to welcome area photographer Diana Mara

Henry for her lecture titled, "The Womens Rights MovementA Photographic Journey. The lecture isscheduled for Thursday, May 23rd at 7 p.m. in Athenaeum Hall. Henry is the fourth guest speaker in a

series of nine lectures presented as part of the 2013 Arts and Culture Series at the Athenaeum.

Her lecture highlights key figures during the Womens Rights Movement that began in the late 1960s

including Lady Bird Johnson, Betty Ford, Bella Abzug, Jane Fonda, Rosalynn Carter and Gloria Steinem.

She began her career in photojournalism at Radcliffe College and continued as photo editor of theHarvard Crimson from 1967 to 1969. She received Harvard's Ferguson History Prize (1967) and receivedan A.B. in Government from Harvard University in 1969. As official photographer for the first National

Women's Conference in Houston in 1977, she had unlimited access to many of the most importantfeminist leaders of the 1970s.

Her photographs have appeared in many magazines and books such as The Perfect Portfolio, Newsweek'sPictures of the Year 1977and the 1989 Pulitzer and Tony award-winning play, The Heidi Chronicles.

She has exhibited in many locations including a one-woman show at the Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca

Falls, NY; the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America; The Women's Museum, Dallas,

TX; and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Washington DC.

Henry is also known for her coverage of the 1972 and 1976 National Democratic Conventions and for hercoverage of the campaigns of Eugene McCarthy, Elizabeth Holtzman, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and

The Arts and Culture Series at St. Johnsbury Athenaeum invites area professionals to share their

experiences with the community. The lectures are open to the public and admission is by

donation.
