great job Vipers! The 232nd

Engineer Company is busy pre-

paring for a change of

command between CPT

Cassandra McGinnis and

CPT Dave McKelvin…

the Warriors executed

the month of inventories

extremely well. Great

job Warriors! The

Spartans continue to

support the entire bat-

talion well. They just

executed another trip up

to St. Louis to pick up some very

nice shirts and fleece pullovers

from Operation Home Front.

Everyone owes the Spartans a

“thank you” for their efforts.

HHC continues to execute plan-

ning and synchronizing in support

of the battalion and brigade and

Soldiers, Families, and Friends of

the Wolverine Battalion: my wife

Tish and I want to take a second

and thank all of you for your

support and for your awesome

work over the last two years.

What an incredible honor for us

to be involved with the fantastic

leaders and Soldiers of this bat-

talion! We will always remember

fondly our time here. We want

to welcome the Calese family:

Gary and Laura. We wish them

all the best as they start their

journey as the Wolverine Com-

mand Team. I ask that you do

for them as you have for us and

then, as always, everyone will

share continued success.

The 77th Engineer Company is

back from Camp Atterbury, IN

where they performed extremely

well in support of this year’s

Vibrant Response CCMRF exer-

cise. The Soldiers of the com-

pany executed

convoys of over

600 miles each

way, cleared rub-

ble from a simu-

lated nuclear

disaster, prepared

a displaced per-

sons camp, and

numerous other

engineer tasks.

Great job Out-

laws. The 103rd Engineer Com-

pany assisted the Brigade and the

post by being the “pusher unit”

to get all convoys, equipment,

and personnel out of Fort Leo-

nard Wood efficiently. The Vi-

pers also “cut the ribbon” on

Range 12 and turned that new

facility over to Range Control…

I can't believe March is here al-

ready! Spring is upon us and

hopefully Winter is behind us!

We want to welcome all those

who are new and hope those

who are leaving have a safe and

pleasant journey. Tish Anderson

is moving on...and she will really

be missed! She has been so dedi-

cated to the 94th EN BN, and

has always put the needs of oth-

ers before her own. This kind of

care and support are not easily

found! Tish is an amazing person

and one to emulate. Thanks for

your time, effort, wisdom, and

guidance.

ACS Promotes Family Readiness

Command cont’d they continue to do it well.

Thanks Headhunters.

The upcoming few months will

be busy…nothing new there.

With ENFORCE coming up,

most senior engineers in the

Regiment will be on Fort Leo-

nard Wood and there will be

numerous opportunities for

Soldiers and Families to partici-

pate. The Battalion Plaque

Dedication and the ENFORCE

ball on the 9th of April are

both great opportunities to be

a part of ENFORCE. Daunt-

less Days and the 4th MEB Ball

are also opportunities for Sol-

diers and their Families to

come out and be a part of fun

events. In early May, every

company will head out on

FTXs to train on their tactical

tasks, so please plan accord-

ingly.

Keep up the great work WOL-

VERINES, and ensure you all

stay in touch with the battalion

by looking at our FACEBOOK

Because the Army demands that its Soldiers be in a constant state of readiness, Soldiers' Families

must also be ready to handle whatever comes their way 24/7/365. "Family readiness" means

spouses and dependents can function independently, efficiently and effectively on their own when

the military member is gone from the household for long periods of time. It means anything and

everything from managing the checkbook and keeping the family car running to handling medical

emergencies and school issues.

In 1942, the Army philosophy was "the Army takes care of its own." Today, the philosophy is "the

Army takes care of its own by teaching its own to take care of themselves." Thanks to the lessons

learned by families who have gone before, today's Army families are stronger and more self-reliant

than ever.

ACS provides a comprehensive range of social services programs that serve to strengthen our

soldiers and families. ACS provides assistance and support in some of the following areas:

Information & Referral Assistance:

- Links soldiers and family members to service providers on post and off post.

- If you have a question, call ACS, they’ll help you find the answer.

Financial Readiness:

- Financial counseling and planning for transition (retirement, leaving military service)

- Consumer information (assistance with home, car, insurance, and other major purchases)

- Money, debt, and checkbook management

- Financial planning for relocation (permanent change of station moves)

- Credit education

- Financial counseling for first term Soldiers

Employment Readiness:

- Job preparation workshops

- Job development and contact with potential employers

- Job skill development and assessment

As we shake off the last remainders

of the winter we have a lot to look

back on and be proud of in HHC.

We have successfully recovered

from our FTX at Fort Chaffee and

are prepared for our next mission

or exercise when it arises. In addi-

tion, we completed a company

inspection that went very well and

has shown all the hard work that

everyone has put into their job

over the last several months. For

the rest of the month we will be

preparing for the battalion change

of command where we will sadly

say good bye to LTC Anderson and

his family. We will also be taking

our bi-annual physical fitness test

this month which is in perfect time

to let people know if they are ready

to go to the beach this summer.

CPT Dennis Hines

LTC Anderson. 1st SGT Hall’s

Change of Responsibility will take

place on April 5th. He and his family

will be sorely missed but fondly

remembered. LTC Anderson’s

Change of Command will take place

on March 31st. He and Tish have

always gone out of their way for

the families of our company and

have always been an exemplary

example of a team. We will surely

miss them; however, we most as-

suredly wish them well!!

This month’s FRG meeting was

informative and inventive as we

combined forces with the 103rd’s

FRG. The ladies from MWR came

to inform all of us about what the

EDGE! program has to offer to

military families year-round and,

many times, virtually free of charge.

March also brings the sad anticipa-

tion of the ensuing departure of

HHC’s own 1st SGT Hall, as well as

wonderful it is

Relocation Readiness:

- Relocation counseling/advocacy before, during and after moves

- Lending closet of basic household items for families during relocation.

- Outreach for waiting families

Family Advocacy Program (FAP):

- Couples communication classes

- Parenting classes

- New Parent Education and Support Program

- Victim Advocacy

Two other great programs, among others at ACS, are Army Family Team Building and the Army Family Action Plan

which also fall under ACS.

So when you need some help or have a question, seek out your ACS office, they’re trained and ready to help. Call

FSC Spartan Word Spartan Soldiers and Families,

Thanks for another safe and

successful quarter. Our com-

pany Soldiers and Families have

endured another battalion

FTX, reacted to the tornado

on post, held an outstanding

FRG meeting in March about

resiliency, executed a road

cleanup, battalion change of

command, and much more. All

this was done safely and exe-

cuted flawlessly. As we con-

tinue to head into a busy next

quarter let’s continue on the

same path and we will do just

fine.

other spouses and families

make them more bearable.

One of the best ways to build

these connections with other

spouses is within your FRG

and events sponsored by the

Battalion. This is a great way to

find a battle buddy and find

people who can offer advice

and share their lessons learned

about the military lifestyle.

Whether it is a neighbor who

is just starting his/her military

career or a spouse who has

nineteen years experience,

these are the friendships that

are going to help support you

during your career as a military

spouse.

Thank you to all you attended

our last meeting, and I hope

you found this information just

as valuable as I did. We look

forward to seeing you at the

next FSC FRG meeting on

April 5 in the Motorpool!!

At our March FRG meeting,

we had JP Flores, from Army

Community Service, attend

our meeting to brief about the

Master Resiliency Training

course. He was full of informa-

tion, but the one thing that

stuck out for me was how

important connections with

other people were in order for

someone to bounce back when

life gets tough. As military

spouses, each day offers a new

challenge, whether our sol-

diers are home or not. The

connections we make with

77th Rock Steady Report

P A G E 5 9 4 T H E N G I N E E R B A T T A L I O N

The 77th Engineer Company, part of

the 94th Engineer Battalion has

spent the past month participating

in a Joint Task Force Operation

(Vibrant Response 11.1) designed

to train for and assess the US

Army’s ability to manage conse-

quences following a catastrophic

incident on domestic soil.

Mission preparation required train-

ing for all sections of the company.

The mission required that the Engi-

neer Company, having already

proven themselves on several con-

struction missions, familiarize them-

selves with radiological environ-

ments. The company reviewed

procedures for applying pro-masks,

CBRN first aid, and using equip-

ment to measure radiological dos-

ages while out of the FOB. Com-

pany Warrant Officers dry-ran the

Tele-engineering kits, a reach back

tool to obtain advice from the

Army Corps of Engineers.

A month of preparation culminated

in a week long exercise at Camp

Atterbury, Indiana. The successful

execution of missions, ranging from

construction of a FEMA base-camp

to route clearance, and even to

humanitarian efforts brought praise

from all branches. The 77th Engi-

neers’ ability to think outside of the

box showed the US Army Joint

Task Force the true meaning of

“Essayons!”

THANK YOU to all the 77th Sol-

diers and Families, as well as LTC

Anderson and Family, who stepped

up and provided donations to this

cause, it is an honor for us to work

alongside all of you!! We are pre-

paring for the Company FTX, an

ACS Financial Class, and we’ve also

starting the planning Our Company

Organizational Day.

The 77th FRG said our farewells at

the Change of Responsibility Cere-

mony to First Sergeant Skillings

and welcomed new First Sergeant

Barkefeld on January 16th, 2011.

We offered a Health Promotions

class and the turn out was amazing!

During January we provided relief

effort, food and beverages, to all

the Soldiers performing recovery

work, due to the tornado damage.

103rd Viper Bytes Hello Vipers and the Viper

Family! The cold has finally

lifted, but not before the com-

pany deployed to Fort Chaffee,

Arkansas for a field exercise.

Through snow, rain, sleet and

wind, the Vipers conducted

tactical training, weapons quali-

fication, and redeployed with

an unmatched success rate. I

am so very proud of their

execution during the exercise,

and am thankful for the sup-

port the families provided

while we were gone. 2nd pla-

toon conducted a ribbon cut-

ting ceremony, officially hand-

ing over Range 12 to the instal-

lation. Job Well Done! We

said goodbye to some key

leaders this quarter, 1LT Mike

Tollison and SFC Jaime Lopez

have moved on to other places

in the battalion. Both served

the Viper Company with dis-

tinction, and will be missed!

This quarter also brings to an

end an era for the Wolverines.

LTC Anderson and Tish will be

leaving us. That team has been

an institution, and will be

missed, as well. They meant so

much to both the Soldiers and

families! Once again, I am very

thankful for all of the support

that our Viper families provide

for us. Our FRG leadership has

changed over, and I am sure

that they will continue to plan

and execute great events for

all the families! Until next

MISSIONS:

Recently we just returned from a

long trip to Ft. Chaffee Arkansas,

23 January 2011 – 9 February 2011.

We put our OEF/OIF Battle Drills

into action, learned much more,

and overall had a much needed

bonding experience for all the new

Soldiers, new lieutenants, and the

Company as a whole. It was cold

and wet but we all made it through

safely.

We also had a couple of promo-

tions! CPL Williams advanced to

the rank of SGT and SPC Reich

advanced to the rank of CPL. Good

Job and Well Deserved!

Hello to everyone! My name is

Mara Tate and I am the new FRG

Leader for 232nd Company. We

moved here in January from Hawaii.

We originally are from St. Louis, so

yes we are used to this crazy win-

ter weather. My husband is prior

service and in 2007 decided to go

back into the Army after a 10 year

break in service, so we have been

active for 4 years. We have been

married for 8 years, and we have 2

children. Our daughter is 4.5 and

our son is 2. I am at stay at home

mom - and love every minute! Here

are a few interesting facts about

your new FRG leader...I have B.S.

Degree in Business and Finance and

a Masters in Education - even

though I’m not working I utilize my

degrees in everyday living. I am half

Sicilian, and I love to cook, espe-

cially a good homemade Italian dish.

Our faith is very important to us

and plays a major role in our family

life. I am actively involved in

PWOC which is Protestant

Women of the Chapel and would

encourage anyone who is inter-

ested to contact me. I am very

happy to be part of this company

and FRG, my goal is to support

families and encourage everyone to

get involved. During our tour in

Hawaii my husband deployed to

Iraq for 14 months and during that

time I was actively involved in our

FRG and loved every minute. I can’t

express to you how much I love

being an Army wife, if there is any-

thing you may need please contact

me. Thank you all and I look for-

ward to getting to know everyone!
