Paul Seeman
INTRODUCTION Paul Seeman is a retired legal professional who served
five years as a court commissioner and four years as a judge with the Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland, California. In 2009, Juvenile Court Judges of California honored Paul Seeman with the Wilmont Sweeney Juvenile Court Judge of the Year Award.
Named after late Alameda County juvenile court judge Wilmont Sweeney, this Judge of the Year Award recognizes the efforts of judges who carry on Sweeney’s legacy through the promotion of shared core values.
WILMONT SWEENEY JUVENILE COURT Judge Sweeney staunchly supported rehabilitation
and counseling efforts as alternatives to juvenile detention centers. He also was the first African American to win election to the City Council of Berkeley. For the past several years, the Juvenile Court Judges of California has bestowed the Wilmont Sweeney Juvenile Court Judge of the Year Award at different professional programs within the state of California. Recent winners include Anaheim judge Shawna M. Schwarz and Garden Grove judge Carolyn M. Caietti.
