WHO IS JESUS?
We are about to conclude our sermon series,
Who Is Jesus? For the past seven weeks, we’ve
looked at the I AM statements Jesus makes about
himself in the Gospel of John. In his own words,
Jesus tells us clearly who He is.
But, who do you say He is?
Jesus describes himself in terms that give us
hope, security, peace and life. But, if we don’t know him on a deep
personal level, how can his words have meaning for our lives? His words
matter greatly, but who we say He is matters too. Think of a person who is
told over and over that she is smart and capable, but she thinks she is
dumb and worthless. The affirming words spoken to her don’t give her
life any meaning unless and until she accepts them as truth. When she
does that her world is dramatically changed.
What does your heart tell you about Jesus? Who is Jesus to you?
Is he just a familiar figure from Bible stories, or is he an intimate friend
and confidante?
Is Jesus the one you go to for every decision, or is he an afterthought
when you’ve already gone your own way?
Is he the one who brings daily peace to your troubled heart, or is your
heart filled with anxiety and worry?
Jesus tells us exactly who he is in the Gospel of John. I encourage you to
read through the passages we have studied again and let his words soak
into your heart. Don’t just hear his words, believe them. Claim his truths
as your truths! When you truly believe he is what sustains you, that he is
the way to eternal life, that he is good, and kind, and true – then you can
live the rich and abundant life he came to give you here and now.

Altar Flowers
Altar Flowers – New Policy
Effective January 1st, we have a new policy for reserving the Altar Flowers. The flower calendar will be in the
glass case located in front of the double doors to the sanctuary. This calendar is there for you to see which
Sundays are available, and only the office will update the calendar. To reserve your flowers for a specific Sunday,
you must complete these steps.
1. Complete the flower form located on the table below the calendar (in foyer), or in the church office.
2. Pay the $35.00 fee for the flowers in one of the following ways:
a. Bring a check or cash and completed form to the office
b. Put a check (write “altar flowers” in memo) AND your form in the offering plate
Reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis and date will not be guaranteed until payment is
received. Due to the difficulty in having more than one family sign up for the same date, we will only accept one
reservation per Sunday. However, a group may purchase the flowers in honor or memory of someone.
When you take the altar flowers home, please leave the green plastic containers at the church. These are reused
each week.

Liquid Body Wash (No bar soap), Deodorant (travel size), Toothpaste, Individual Toothbrushes,

At the upcoming meeting, Wednesday, March 6 at 10:00 am in the Parlor, the group will continue their study of
1 John, by focusing on chapter 5, verses 1-12. Patsy Harper has the opening prayer and Kathleen Kyles will
provide a devotional. All women of the church are invited to attend!

Howdy
A couple of years ago, our daughter lost her purse, in of all places a New York taxi. A few days later she received it
in the mail. A note with it said, “Lady, you left your purse in my cab. I kept out the money it took to mail it back to
you. It was simply signed, Taxi Driver. The postage was $2.40, the exact amount missing from the purse. When
we talked to her a few months later, she was writing a note to a teenage girl whose purse she had found on the
subway.
There have been so many strangers who have helped me, befriended me, and gone out of their way to be kind.
Have you ever walked down an avenue in a large city, perhaps window shopping, or like me just gawking? The
sidewalks are big and wide but crowded with people. The people you meet are hurrying away from where you’re
going, and the ones walking your way are talking about shopping, or golf, or their work, but most are silent. This
crowd, this mob of people, just don’t seem friendly, but in truth, the only way to have privacy in a crowd is to
ignore everyone around you.
We’re used to country folk and country ways, where every pickup driver waves, and people say “howdy.”
Sometimes people need a little shove to be friendly. When I’m shopping, I try to say hello to every person I meet.
Lots of times it brings about a brief but pleasant conversation.
In Romans 12:13 Paul says, “Contribute to the needs of God’s people, and welcome strangers into your home. “3 John 1:5
stresses helping strangers. “Dear friend, you act faithfully in whatever you do for our brothers and sisters, even though
they are strangers,” and Hebrews 13:1-2 says, “Keep loving each other like family. 2 Don’t neglect to open up your homes to
guests, because by doing this some have been hosts to angels without knowing it.”
Finders keepers, loosers, weepers? What would Jesus do?
“Thank you Lord that in you we are all one family, even strangers. AMEN”

Children’s Corner
In February the Children’s Ministry made Valentines to be given out in the community during Journey with
Jesus. We also spent some time helping plant flowers for the Trustees. If you have a chance please tell the kids
thank you for volunteering here at the church!
In March the Children’s Choir will be learning special music for Easter! We’re also starting to make plans for the
Easter Eggstravaganza including breakfast, petting zoo, pony rides, crafts, Easter Egg hunt, and reading the story
of the REAL reason for Easter! This event is planned for Saturday April 20th 9am-11am. Please help us with this
event! We need help with decorating, cooking in the kitchen, craft projects, and monitoring animals. Please sign
up to help at the Children’s ministry board and also please start picking up some candy or prizes to stuff into eggs
when you’re at the store. Every bit helps! Please pray for a safe and fun event for our kids and community and that
the kids who come will come to know that Jesus came for them, and died for them, and rose for them!
Blessings and Peace,
Deirdre
