The transferable skills I am strongest in are practical, IT, tact, physical and decision making.

Practical skills: Practical skills is the ability to apply theory and knowledge to complete various tasks. These skills allow you to see how things work and allow you to interact, improve or change the activity at hand. While understanding the theory and knowledge behind these practices these skills also allow you to evaluate, respect and be cautious of any dangers that may be at risk. Comprehending an activity means you can safely engage in the activity and eliminate any chance of harm. Having an understanding also means you can evaluate the situation to allow yourself to use the best practice. It makes you aware of what is considered the best method to reach completion. This helps save time and reduces mistakes. You can be left alone with little instruction to complete responsibilities. You gain large amounts of trust and can be relied on to fulfil missions correctly. These skills also allow you to pick up new activities at a fast rate. You use technology, tools or equipment efficiently. When introduced to something new it is approached with willingness and you can do what is required. These skills also provide you with the ability to self-assess. You will be conscious of how your performance is measured and will aim to carry out or finish your obligations in line with these expectations. These skills also mean you are enthusiastic. You enter into new situations and take on new responsibilities with a hands-on and positive attitude. Areas in which I have used these skills is when I worked as a house keeper in a hotel. High quality performance was a necessity. I had to carry out each task with precision. I had to fulfil expectations to meet the high standard of the hotel. I also used these skills while working in an art instillation. I was making a sculpture out of heather, copper and cable ties. I had to first learn how to mould and shape the copper, tie the cable ties and carefully select the heather pieces. After that I was able to put the theory I had learned into practice to create my piece. Practical skills are of benefit in a working lifestyle as they save time, money and make the overall experience easier and more enjoyable.

IT skills: IT skills consists of being able to successfully complete tasks on a computer with ease, knowing the potential of what can be done on a computer and understanding what your computer is doing while it does it. Good IT skills include exceptional typing skills. This means being able to type words at a fast rate with few mistakes. Also knowing the short cuts that are available to use through the keyboard. This saves time as you skip steps which need to be taken when using the mouse. Knowing the opportunities available in programs such as word processing. This enables you to construct text quickly. You will also be able to display information in multiple ways such as charts and diagrams. Programs such as Excel and Powerpoint are also able to be used without difficulty. Feeling in control of the device and comfortable when in use is a feature of these skills. You are confident and feel you have the adequate skills to undergo new exercises and activities on a computer. Searching skills are also a feature of IT skills. You are able to research data to evaluate and pick out the relevant and legit information. The skill of being able to use the internet to answer queries is also important. Money does not have to be spent on hand books and software guides. Time can also be saved as the solution is directly given to you instead of you having to find and locate the answer yourself. It is also a helpful skill as a variety of methods to your solution are given through the internet. You are able to find and apply the resolution which suits you.Areas in which I have used my IT skills are at school, in college and for my general use. I spend a lot of time on personal projects which include using word, paint, powerpoint and excel. These skills are beneficial in the work place as employees can save time and money on training if you already poses the acquired skills. These skills allow you to engage in a number of important activities such as giving presentations, displaying information, typing up documents, completing accounts and drawing up ideas.

Tact skills: Isaac Newton quoted Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy. Tact skills are used to aid effective communication. Good conversational skills are needed epically during negotiation, persuasion, relaying instructions or when you must be assertive. Having tact skills can improve your relationships with people and can aid the construction of mutual respect. Tact skills are usually paired with diplomacy skills. These are skills which are centred on the idea of having emotional intelligence. This means you have an understanding of other peoples feelings. This allows you to be sensitive to opposing opinions, beliefs, ideas and feelings. It means you are able to sense what other people are feeling or thinking at a particular time and you are capable of showing empathy. In turn you can respond in a respectful and appropriate way to avoid offending the other party whilst remaining assertive to explain your ideas in a respectful manner. Having accurate judgement is a major feature of these skills. As each communication is unique being able to evaluate the situation to choose the correct and most effective approach is vital. Attentive listening is an essential feature of tact skills. You must listen to the information and the tone of the speaker. This is needed so you can respond appropriately. Being polite and courteous to respect other peoples culture differences and points of view are important in interpersonal relationships. Knowing your main aims and goals in which you aim to achieve is important when communication. You should know what you want your outcome to be when the conversation has been concluded. These skills are needed with the work place as most jobs deal with people weather they are co-workers or customers. Having good tact skills means employees can rely on you to complete your interpersonal tasks respectfully. It also means your employer knows you aim to create and sustain good work relations. I have used these skills when dealing with guests in a hotel I use to work in. I dealt with their everyday needs and complaints.

Physical skills: physical skills is the ability to perform any form of physical activity with ease e.g. walking, running, swimming. Physical skills can be broken into ten classifications: strength, stamina, flexibility, agility, power, speed, coordination, balance, accuracy and cardiovascular development. I would consider myself an active person. If an activity involves muscular co-ordination I do not let that discourage me. I prefer undertakings to have an element of physical movement. It helps me remain concentrated and calm. I feel I preform best when I have the opportunity to be mobile rather than remain stationary. I enjoy activated that require a hands-on approach. I enjoy being outdoors and love perusing my creative interests. I love heavy craft work such as carpentry. While working with my father who a carpenter/ builder I learnt how to build a shelving unit, picnic bench, coffee table and lamp stands. The work required me to lift heavy planks of wood. I had to learn to cut and shape them accordingly using a milter saw, hand saw and a jig saw. We finished the items by sanding them with electric sanders and by hand sanding using special sand paper. We also coated the wooden products in teak oil. I loved learning the trade and the demand of physical activity the trade requires did not decrease my enjoyment. When I have completed a job that has required elbow grease my sense of satisfaction and accomplishment is much greater. Having good physical skills in the work place can be of benefit. All assignments that are given commence with enthusiasm and energy and therefore are completed to the best of my ability. It gives me the opportunity to be able to complete a vast variety of occupations and leaves me with no limitations.

Decision making: decision making is the act of choosing between two or more options. With decision making there is opportunity cost. Having good decision making skills requires you to evaluate all your possible options to depict which will be your course of action and what will lie under opportunity cost. There are two possible processes that can be used when making decisions. These are intuitive or reasoned. These can be used as single procedures or used as a combination. The process of intuition is when a decision is made as a result of a gut feeling. This means you make a decision based on your past experiences and moral value. There is little to no research done in this process can sometimes be unreliable. This type of decision making is used when choices have to be made quickly. This process would be used with minor subjects. The reasoned process uses research and information. Facts and figures are taken into account and compared to one another. Consequences are weighed up and once all possible outcomes have been analysed an informed decision can be made. This type of process is made with important decisions that could have large negative or positive consequences. When using both processes, reason is used first to weigh up the possible courses of action. After this intuition is used to decide the best arrangement. Having high quality decision making skills can be of benefit as you can be relied on to guide a company or employees in a successful direction. These skills ensure you have a productive and efficacious plan of action with a satisfactory return.Past employment where I had to exercise by decision making skills was when I was a house keeper in a hotel. It was a fast passed job which demanded quick on your feet thinking. Unforeseen problems were common and often. The workforce and I were left responsible to figure out solutions. Especially when the problem arose in relation to a guest, quick and fast solutions had to be created so not to diminish the customers satisfaction.
