The Seed

• The seed is dormant until it is planted and given water.

• It has a seed coat in order to protect it from getting destroyed.

• Inside there is an embryo. This is the young plant.

• The embryo has enough energy to grow from the stored food in the seed.

The Roots• The tomato plant has tap roots and fibrous

roots. • The roots absorb water and move the water

up the plant through the xylem vessels.• The roots have root hairs to allow the plant to

absorb more water.

• Has xylem vessels to carry the water up the stem to other parts of the plant.

• Has phloem vessels to carry the food up and down the plant.
