Liberty Enlightening the World

Located on a 12 acre island, the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

Liberty Facts!• Total overall height from the base of the

pedestal foundation to the tip of the torch is 305 feet, 6 inches

• Height of the Statue from her heel to the top of her head is 111 feet, 6 inches

• The face on the Statue of Liberty measures more than 8 feet tall

• There are 154 steps from the pedestal to the head of the Statue of Liberty

• A tablet held in her left hand measures 23' 7" tall and 13' 7" wide inscribed with the date JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776)

for each of the seven continents, each measuring up to 9 feet in length and weighing as much as 150 pounds

Lady Liberty/Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a giant statue of the god Helios, erected on the Greek island of Rhodes by Chares of Lindos between 292 BC and 280 BC. It was roughly the same size as the Statue of Liberty in New York, although it stood on a lower platform. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
