Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary ProgramFor�women�or�men�who�have�been�diagnosed�with�breast�cancer,�this�program�provides�a�comprehensive�evaluation�followed�by�recommendations�for�treatment�by�a�team�of�specialists,�all�within�the�course�of�one�afternoon.

The�specialists,�which�may�include�a�surgeon,�radiation�oncologist,�medical�oncologist,�plastic�surgeon�and�psychosocial�expert,�will�evaluate�each�person’s�case.�Pathology�slides�and�mammograms�will�be�reviewed�by�the�specialists,�and�the�case�will�be�fully�discussed�in��a�conference�by�the�whole�team.�A�recommendation��from�the�team�will�be�presented�to�the�patient�at�the�end�of�the�visit.�A�tape�recorder�is�provided�to�enable�the�patient�to�record�the�recommendations�and�a�written�summary�will�be�supplied.

Diagnostic ProgramFor�women�who�have�an�abnormal�mammogram,�a�palpable�lump�in�the�breast�or�any�other�breast�problem,�a�clinician�specializing�in�breast�health�will�provide�further��evaluation.�If�necessary,�diagnostic�approaches�include�ultrasound,�magnetic�resonance�imaging�(MRI),�core�needle��biopsy,�fine�needle�aspiration,�ductography,�stereotactically��guided�mammotome�biopsy,�and�surgical�biopsy.

Follow-up ProgramFor�women�undergoing�or�who�have�completed�treatment�for�breast�cancer,�this�program�provides�a�multidisciplinary�approach�for�rehabilitation.�Nutrition,�management�of�post-menopausal�symptoms,�prevention�of�lymphedema,�and�other�issues�related�to�the�quality��of�life�are�emphasized.

High Risk ProgramFor�women�with�a�family�history�or�other�risk�factors��for�breast�cancer,�this�program�includes�risk�assessment�and�close�surveillance�for�early�detection.�Women�receive�information�about�genetics,�nutrition,�exercise,�early�detection,�psychosocial�issues�related�to�breast�cancer,��as�well�as�access�to�clinical�trials�and�research�programs.

Surgical EducationFor�women�who�will�be�having�breast�surgery,�this�program�walks�each�person�through�the�type�of�surgery��they�will�be�having�from�start�to�finish.�A�nurse�practitioner,��a�psychologist,�and�a�breast�cancer�survivor�inform�patients��about�the�“dos”�and�“don’ts”�of�before,�during,�and�after�surgery.�Questions�pertaining�to�anaesthesia,�types�of�surgical�procedures�and�after�care�will�be�addressed.
