The Reality of Doomsday Preppers
Thursday, April 19, 2012
After watching doomsday preppers which aired on April 17, 2012 I came to the realizationthat the producers of this television show have only one agenda other than profits which is
to embarrass and belittle the people on their show in order to gain ratings which in turnattracts advertisers that increase their profits. You could completely understand the
producers of this show as they're doing nothing more than every other reality televisionshow has done since the inception of reality TV 20+ years ago. Use and abuse those
gullible enough to appear in order to enrich their production company and themselves,
and of course the network, Productions such as Doomsday Preppers target a segment of our population that at first glance seem to be strange, and then by shameless acts
commented by the production which is part of the far left media which should come as no
surprise, the so called reality TV as the producers are reveled to have only one interestwhich is to enrich themselves no matter what the cost to those that appear, even if it callsfor them to offer up their contestants much like a centuries old pagan, blood sacrificial
rite.
After last nights show I am willing to place a bet that at lease one of the participants will
shortly be paid a visit by ATF as they were building and detonating pipe bombs. Eventhough a relative of the prepper in this segment was said to be a licensed gun dealer and
was supposedly the person who built the bombs. The last time I spoke with anyone fromATF bombs of any type were illegal and building them even by someone holding a federal
firearms license was illegal, as explosives require special licensing. So there is a very
good chance that this prepper’s cousin may lose not only his firearms license, but now the
government has the opportunity of making an example out of both to the preppercommunity with heavy fines and prison time.
Knowing people in the media as I do, this production company along with DiscoveryChannel and any others involved had many agendas when the concept was pitched to the
Discovery Channel such as promoting prepping as a far right activist like those described
by our president during the last election as Bible hugging, gun toting conservatives thatare deathly afraid of change as a means to not only discredit the participants, but to paint
all those involved in prepping as nothing more than far right nuts. And with the electionand the massive failures of the left, they need something to distract, confuse and
misdirect the American people before the election.
• The first was that a show about preppers would attract a good sized
audience giving them the opportunity to sell space making the ventureprofitable. Basically, a way to get rich no matter what harm it could bring to
others. If this was their only agenda, you can understand as they would benothing more than capitalist. Shameless? Yes!
• The second and more important reason is their blatant and continued intent
to embarrass a small segment of Americans by finding only those on theextreme edge of prepping and encourage them to do and say things these
people most likely reserve for friends or family. Having them demonstrate
fully automatic weapons, showing them burring silver and gold on their

property, and film them building and detonating home made bombs, or
encourage them to do or say whatever the producers could talk them into
without the slightest concern of their safety or the legal ramifications to thepreppers. After al, it’s legal to video tape a moron building and detonating a
bomb. It’s another story for the person that does the act.
On another segment of the show, the prepper being interviewed was naive enough toallow them into their home, where they told how he had buried thousands of dollars of
silver on his property.
A thief living within a few hundred miles, paying close attention to the show would have
no problem locating them as their city and state are advertised at the beginning of eachsegment, and by knowing a few details which can be gleaned from the show it would be
very easy to track these people down. In a best case scenario, they watch the preppershome waiting until its empty to sneak onto the property and dig up the silver coins they
had buried. In a worse case scenario the thieves come in force and wait until late andcommit an armed invasion which could result in torture or worse until they are provided
with the location of the currency. Afterwards, they might simply decide to kill the entire
family in an attempt to cover their tracks.
It seems that those that appear on this so-called “educational show which is advertised asan insight into the world of prepping” may be placing themselves in more danger than
they actually realize as they are allowing people to see most, if not all of their defensivesystems, firearms, food stocks and other supplies. Providing so much information about
one’s live and level of preparedness along with plans for the future could place the families
in more danger than the actual disaster they are preparing for in the first place.
Some may be under the mindset that if people know they have guns, no one's going toattempt to rob them. As a former police officer my thoughts is the criminals will simply
show up in greater numbers and with superior firepower and attempt to take the family bysurprise resulting in a successful robbery or could degenerate into a firefight ending badly
for everyone involved.
It could also be a simply be the producers would be unwilling to shoot a segment if the
participants would not reveal at least a portion of their firearms and other supplies (whichthey may have invested tens of thousands of dollars in) and in doing so have possibly
placed themselves in the position of becoming a target of criminals who do nothing morethan scour the Internet and now television looking for their next target of opportunity.
Are the people appearing on this reality show compensated? I have no idea, but what I doknow is that there are naïve people that are proud of what they've accomplished and are
easy prey for the predators known as the producers luring the people into appearing onthe show. And for whatever personal reasons these families decide to allow the production
company into their home, they are giving away their secrets of prepping and personalsecurity by allowing these camera crews into their home.
No matter the amount of compensation one might receive to appear on such a televisionshow, I cannot understand why people would put their families and everything they have
worked so hard for in jeopardy by not only giving up their secrets. Not only are theygiving up their secrets to a possible criminal element, but they're exposing themselves to
any number of federal agencies which monitor shows like this on a regular basis.

Not only are they giving away their general location within a given community, they have
also informed many government agencies as to their plans, types, calibers and number of
firearms along with the location of any shelter along with other private information thatshould be kept within their family or prepper group.
To a greater extent, the secrecy surrounding the plans of most prepper's is their greatest
defense, and when some catastrophic event takes place only those directly involved willhave information giving the prepper family or group and added layer of security. People
have a long memories especially when their life or the lives of their family come under
threat, and if a disaster which would disrupt the transport of food and other supplies wereto occur, many people that live in the area of these prepper's will remember the show
along with the prepper and begin their search to track them down knowing that they haveall the supplies they would need.
Being armed with the knowledge from the television show even though they don't
remember every aspect they would remember enough to know that the prepper's wouldbe well armed but most likely fewer numbers. This would result in these people recruiting
their neighbors and friends with the promise of food for their children and all they would
have to do is either drive away or kill the people they saw on television. After all, theseare only strangers as a mindset would be quite simple because no parent wants to see
their children go to bed hungry.
If a family of two or three are confronted by a mob of 20 or more people you have veryfew choices of how to protect the lives of your family.
Your first choice would be to attempt to fend them off with what firearms you have, possibly having to take the lives of total strangers or even of your neighbors.
Your second and only other option would be to flee, allowing the mob to overrun and take
everything you have stockpiled for your family.
Neither of these options are viable and the best way to protect your family and everything
that you have worked so hard for is to keep your plans secret.
If you build an underground shelter on your property and people ask about it simply lieand tell them it’s a tornado shelter or root cellar or anything other than it is a doomsday
shelter that you built and stockpiled with food and fresh water to protect your family inthe event of a catastrophic disaster. For the most part the people appearing on doomsday
prepper's have given away most, if not all of their secrets and plans to total strangers
across the country opening themselves up to a higher level of confrontation then they hadplanned for before the producers of this television show came into their lives
There's an old saying, out of sight out of mind. When storing excess amounts of food,
paper products, ammunition and firearms, these items should be out of sight fromeveryone except those living in that household and should never be spoken of publicly,
much less brag about and shown on television for the profit of others.
Being proud of what you've accomplished is one thing, but sharing your secrets with a
nationwide audience could be nothing more than braggadocio, which could possibly end upin what one might call an “voluntary suicide”.
You need to take into consideration that people have long memories, and they will search

their thoughts for days or weeks if it means the possibility of acquiring food and other
supplies for the survival of their families.
As to those that have already appeared on Doomsday Prepper's: I wish them all the best,
and I have said a prayer for the safety of them and their families, as these people have, for the most part, have not only invited the criminals in their area to track them down,
they have also given vital information to government agencies that when faced withpossible civil disobedience would first visit the homes of known prepper's to confiscate
their firearms. And if you're under the misguided opinion that it's only a television show
think again as there's a very good chance that the names, addresses and all of thepertinent information about the participants of this show have already been given freely
local, state and federal law enforcement agencies by the producers of the show.
The sad part is that if they were the victims of a home invasion now, before any disasterhappened, and if they survived they would sit back for months wondering how did those
people find them and how did they know what they had.
