A large southern WELCOME to all Fleckvieh enthusiasts around the world to our TWELFTH annual “QUEST for the BEST EXCELLENCE” sale. The QUEST is an annual event designed for breeders of Fleckvieh cattle coming to- gether with the common goal of presenting the BEST of their breeding programs to the world. The carefully selected cattle represent their dreams, dedication and commitment to improve the final product necessary to compete in the feedlot and ultimately on the dinner table. Unlike in the past, we now have a wide selection of genetics for improvement which makes the breeding decisions so important. Simply said, “You will find the BEST at the QUEST”. OUR FUTURE IS BRIGHT! As I am writing this welcome letter, the board on feeder cattle is close to $150 per hundred and fats at $125. Unfortunately, the severe drought and floods have forced the liquidation of thousands of head of cattle and yet prices are at an all time high. I believe this is due to our weaker dollar which has pushed our export market to levels never seen before. This trend will not change in the next few years and beef could become a rare commodity as the world economy becomes stronger and the contraction of our cattle numbers continue. Your commitment and dedication of breeding FLECKVIEH cattle will be rewarded more in the future as the market needs pounds of meat, not a color of a hide. I offer a very sincere thank you to our CONSIGNORS, GUESTS and FRIENDS for your attendance and if your schedule does not allow you to attend you may review the sale live at www.dvauction. Glenna, Beau, Tara, John and I appreciate each of you and your commitment for consigning only your BEST. We invite every- one to join us on Thursday to view the cattle and the Ranch, enjoy the Fleckvieh chili on Friday evening and begin your QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE on Saturday, September 24th at 12:00 noon. Come early in the week and consider your INVESTMENT CHOICES and enjoy the hospitality and fellowship of Glenna, John, Allan, Maurice and myself. Welcome to the Twelfth Annual “Quest for Fleckvieh Excellence Sale”. Each year we start evaluating the past Quest sale just two days after the event and start selecting and laying the ground work for the next “Quest”. We are always looking for the most current and popular ge- netic matings that will work for basically anyone in the cattle industry. Quest XII consisted of over 5,000 miles of viewing and selecting cattle in the United States along with a flight to Canada involving our two Canadian consignors. I am extremely proud of our consignors as I can honestly say they all have honored what has always been the golden rule for the Quest which is, we only accept the best for the Quest. We have tried to provide you with various genetics and styles in our selections as we have German, Austrian, Full South African, Polled, Homozygous Polled and a blend of these genetics for your appraisal. Our consignors have the Vision and dedication to continually strive for genetics and types of cattle that improve our base herds. At Quest VI, the first polled animal to sell at the Quest was purchased by Indian Creek Cattle Company for $20,000. I remember stating at that time, the polled factor is not a fad but a necessary part of the future of Fleckvieh when utilized correctly. Study the offering and you will see that our consignors have the Vision to utilize the strengths of horned genetics with polled to create very useful animals. The semen offering is one of the largest ever offered at Quest and there are many rare proven horned bulls along with the polled and homozy- gous polled bulls provides you with the opportunity discussed in the previous sentence. Our embryo numbers are less than in past Quest sales, but more selective and have much more exclusivity along with proven predictability. A big THANK YOU to all of our consignors and a special THANK YOU to our host, Dollars Diamond D. Working with Kent, Glenna and John over the past seventeen years has been a honor and pleasure. A large southern WELCOME to all Fleckvieh enthusiasts around the world to our TWELFTH annual “QUEST for the BEST EXCELLENCE” sale.

The QUEST is an annual event designed for breeders of Fleckvieh cattle coming to-gether with the common goal of presenting the BEST of their breeding programs to the world.

We invite every-one to join us on Thursday to view the cattle and the Ranch, enjoy the Fleckvieh chili on Friday evening and begin your QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE on Saturday, September 24th at 12:00 noon.

This year at the Quest, Prospect Hill Simmentals is selling something genetically unique – US Semen Rights for Champs Bravo!! I told Kent and Roy a few years ago that we would occasionally sell at the Quest, if we had something special that breeders south of the border could use to strengthen their herd.

Champs Bravo was the high selling bull at the Red Deer Simmental Bull Sale in 2009, from Champs Simmentals. He came highly rated and we were not disappointed when he stepped off the trailer. Bravo is a moderate framed bull, with tremendous feet and legs, dark pigmenta-tion and great disposition. He also has the ability to add muscle, a great top and bone into his progeny. The fact that he is scured polled is just an added bonus. Who wouldn't want these traits in their upcoming calf crop?

In the fall of 2010 PHS sold all BUT the US semen rights to Semex. We kept the US rights to offer this year at the Quest. Semex is using Bravo as a cornerstone to their Full Fleckvieh semen export program for China as well as Europe. The Semex catalogue states “his first progeny show-case his exceptional calving ease and stylish eye appeal. He has a 5.0 CE rating while ranking at the top of the breed with his 43.6 WW EPD and strong YW numbers”.

Over two calving seasons, Bravo calves birth weights averaged 85lbs and were easy calvers for both heifers and cows. Our first set of calves were from yearling heifers and they were born unassisted. Breeding your cows to Bravo will give you the many advantages that we have grown to love at PHS. Bring these traits home to your ranch and you too will be saying “Bravo” every time one of his calves is born.

The winning bidder will get 500 doses and exclusive control of US semen rights. PHS will share the shipping costs to a central location in the US.

She will open your eyes when you see her in person. May I gently suggest that you likewise close your eyes while bidding and keep your hand up. She will not disappoint your banker!

Joanie is a 3/4 South African who exhibits the performance we are all wanting to add to our polled strains. She will make an outstanding cornerstone for the most discrimi-nating polled program as she exhibits structural and color correctness. Joanie’s femininity, smooth shoulders, exten-sion, muscle expression and depth of rib all add to her potential as your next polled donor.

PMF HP Queen Ann is truly a regal, correct heifer with depth, thickness and a great disposition. She is deep red, double goggled with well shaped udder and teats. Queen Ann is genetically homozygous polled and non-dilutor since both parents have been confirmed homozygous and non-dilutors. This mating was planned to give a double cross to Anchor “T” Barbi 46K & EDC Pol Magnum 1B. Queen Ann is probably the only double cross of these two great matrons in the US. This halter broke young heifer has the potential to become an outstanding foundation matron in any herd.

J20X, a 1/2 Fleck x 1/2 Red Angus, is a good example of how Saskatoon works with Full Fleckvieh females, especially if they have more white than we would like. The dam of J20X has as much, if not more, white than J30W, Lot 34 in this sale. This pow-erful young heifer is out of a first calf heifer. J20X’s Fleckvieh pedigree includes BHR Doorn, MRLN Luba, BHR Three Sixes & Iglhoff; while her Red Angus side includes the immortal King Rob, Heavenly & None Better. She sells open/ready to breed in the fall.

DDD Manso Lilbit 821U is mine and John’s favorite as she lost her mother when she was four days old. As a result she loves to be around people and especially QUEST friendly people. Lilbit is quite the moma and when you see her polled calf by Red Rock you will understand why we feel that way. Only at the QUEST will you find the BEST!
