hoosing a feline companion can be a difficult task! What kind of cat do you want? Where should you start looking?

Here at Cat Stole My Tongue, we understand this can be a daunting journey and we’re here to help try to point you in the right direction!

There are many, many different breeds of cats out there, and in this magazine we will be exam-ining three: Ragdolls, Chartreux, and Siamese. While each individual cat is different with dif-ferent personalities, this gives you a general idea of what they are like. Good luck in your search!

agdolls are one of the largest breeds around. Some of these cats have weighed in at 35 pounds and they can

be up to three times the size of other cats! It’s not that these cats are fat, though. Rather, these cats are just big-boned. They are strong with wide chests and large, muscular hindquarts. However, don’t let their unusually large size intimidate you. These cats are known as ‘ragdolls’ for a reason! They get their name from their tendency to be able to become limp when they are picked up.

They are recognized for their calm and relaxed, yet extremely friendly and affectionate, demean-or. They are loyal to their owners and often fol-low them though the house like a puppy would. These cats can also be very playful! Ragdolls have a sleek, fluffy coat that is com-parable to that of a rabbit’s. They are large and have intense blue eyes. They are usually healthy cats, but can sometimes get heart disease. They typically get along with other animals and they generally love children. This makes the Ragdoll an ideal family or first-time pet.

elieved to have originated in France, they are still popular there today as well as around the rest of the world.

This breed is exteremely smart and has been known to able to open doors and work buttons. Unlike the vocal Siamese cats, Chartreux cats tend to be very quiet. Chartreux cats are very independent, but they are extremely loyal to their owners. They are known to be very sweet and playful. This breed has a solid blue-grey coat, copper gold eyes, and a distictive smile. They have

water-repellent fur that is medium to short in length. Their body is stocky and their legs are slender. Chartreux cats cannot come in any other colors besides grey. The Chartreux cat is also a great hunter. They are believed to have been taken in by French monks to help rid the monasteries of rats and vermin. Their bodies are very muscularly built and they are exteremely agile. This breed is also known to be generally healthy, but may inherit patellar luxation.

hese magestic felines originated in ancient Siam and were once reserved only for monks and the royal family. Today,

Siamese are popular all around the world and are one of the most widely recognized cat breeds! Besides their deep blue eyes and their beautiful, pointed coats, this breed is probably best known for being extremely vocal and chatty. Siamese cats love to talk! Siamese cats are also very smart and very playful. They become deeply attached to their

owners and can be extremely affectionate. These cats always want their owners attention and tend to have low levels of independence. The Siamese cat is also highly recognized for their points, or colorings. There are many different types, including seal point, blue point, chocolate point, lilac point, flame point, tortie point, and lynx point. These are two different lines of Siamese cats: traditional and modern. Traditional cats have a rounder body and an apple-shaped head while modern Siamese have a long, sleek body.
