The Priory Academy LSST Year 8 Homework – Module One 2014 At the Priory Academy LSST homework is a vital part of every child’s education in ensuring that the learning taking place within the classroom is consolidated and enabling every pupil to achieve their full potential. The Purpose of Homework: To encourage pupils to develop the skills, confidence and motivation needed to study effectively on their own. This is vital, given the importance for pupils in the future, of life long learning and adaptability in the workplace; To extend school learning, for example through additional reading; To consolidate, practise and reinforce skills and understanding developed at school; To sustain the involvement of parents and carers in the management of pupils’ learning and keeping them informed about the work pupils are doing; To learn to manage particular demands, such as GCSE coursework; To enable work not suited to the classroom situation such as research or surveys. To assist pupils in the planning and completion of homework each subject has produced an overview guide of some of the homework to be completed in Module One. The following pages identify tasks to be carried out in each subject across the module. Pupils will be directed to these tasks by their subject teachers and given further instruction on how and when they are to be completed. There is also information included here for pupils to use to extend their learning in each subject if they have completed the homework set and wish to do more to further their understanding in a particular subject. This should mean that there is never a situation where no homework is set on the day that it should be according to the homework timetable. If no formal homework is set by the class teacher on the day it is due then pupils should refer to this guide to complete a relevant piece of work.

Year 8 Homework – Module One 2014

At the Priory Academy LSST homework is a vital part of every child’s education

in ensuring that the learning taking place within the classroom is consolidated

and enabling every pupil to achieve their full potential.

The Purpose of Homework:

To encourage pupils to develop the skills, confidence and motivation needed to study effectively on their own. This is vital, given the importance for pupils in the future, of life long learning and adaptability in the workplace;

To extend school learning, for example through additional reading;

To consolidate, practise and reinforce skills and understanding developed at school;

To sustain the involvement of parents and carers in the management of pupils’ learning and keeping them informed about the work pupils are doing;

To learn to manage particular demands, such as GCSE coursework;

To enable work not suited to the classroom situation such as research or surveys.
