His Excellency Shri V.P. Singh Badnore; Hon’ble Governor of Punjab,Mr. Ashok Pratap Singh, President; Board of Trustees; Modern Schools, Dr. S.Y.Quraishi, Chairman; Managing Committee,Modern School Barakhamba Road, Members of the Board of Trustees, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is a joy and a privilege to welcome you all to the 96th Founder’s Day of the school. It is that time of the year once again when we gather to salute the visionary zeal of Lala Raghubir Singh.

96 years ago, in 1920, as a young 26 year old, he dreamt of an institution that would be a perfect synchronization of modern education and Indian ethos. And, thus, was born the Modern School.

An eminent, distinguished personality of stature as our Chief Guest hardly requires any introduction. However, I shall briefly introduce him. Shri V P Singh Badnore is, presently, the Governor of Punjab.

Hailing from the erstwhile royal family of Badnore in Rajasthan, he has dedicated his life to the cause of his constituency and the BJP. Amongst his noteworthy achievements are three distinguished tenures in Parliament, as both a Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha member. He was a Member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for four terms and also held the portfolio of Minister of Irrigation in the Rajasthan Government before he moved to the National turf. An alumni of Mayo College, Ajmer and ASCI College, Hyderabad, Mr Badnore has wide and varied interests. He is a keen swimmer, a wild life photographer and nurses a fondness for vintage cars. He has also authored a book ‘Jaimal Vansh Prakash’ on the history of Mewar and Mertiya Rathore. Rajya Sabha records describe him as an agriculturist, environmentalist, social worker, and a sportsman.

He is not only an avid politician but also a wild life enthusiast and has been actively involved in the conservation of Tigers. As Chairman of the Tiger Task Force, he was instrumental in rehabilitation of tigers in Sariska, at the time when poaching of tigers had been at an all time high and all the tigers had been poached in Sariska in 2003-2004. Rehabilitation of tigers was done by translocation of tigers from the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. First time in the world, such a Herculean task was carried out. Panna tiger reserve also followed suit and tigers were then rehabilitated there as well.

He was also selected in the Times Of India survey of top 25 MPs’ of Lok Sabha during the year 2003-2008. Sir, We are indeed honoured to have you amongst us this evening. I would also like to extend a hearty welcome to his spouse Mrs. Alka Singh.

Modern School Barakhamba Road has been able to grow remarkably in leaps and bounds under the able stewardship of Mr. Ashok Pratap Singh, President, Board of Trustees, Modern Schools. He continues with the aspiration of Lala Raghubir Singh and provides us with his unstinted support in our mission to provide holistic education to the generations of tomorrow. His faith in us,along with the guidance of Dr. S.Y.Quraishi, Chairman, Managing Committee, Modern School Barakhamba Road and other Members of the Board of Trustees, motivates us at Modern School, Barakhamba Road to continue to strive harder and better ourselves to achieve greater heights in all the spheres. Let me tell you, that for us at Modern, the sky is not the limit.

The Columban Open Quiz held at St. Columba’s School, New Delhi, is widely acknowledged as being both the largest and the most prestigious school quiz in northern India. Superlatives aside, it is an event that undoubtedly has a place in the heart of any quizzer who has ever participated in it. It was perhaps the last competition left in the city, which the Modern School Quiz Club had not yet been able to conquer. The team, comprising of Aatmik Gupta (S6F), Ayan Marwaha (S6F), Paavas Bhasin (S7D) and Aniket Joshi (S7D), worked together in perfect synchronisation to fight through hundreds of questions over three hotly contested rounds and beat out 200 teams to lift the Winners’ Trophy on behalf of Modern School for the first time in the quiz’s 33-year history.

Aatmik Gupta, secured 2nd rank internationally in the Junior World Quizzing Champinship held at Delhi. He was also voted the ‘ World’s Highest Ranked School Student’. He has also mooted a ‘ Picture Description Test’ activity for the students, which intends to evaluate personality and perception of an individual.

It is considered to be effective in eliciting information about a person’s view of the world and his or her attitude towards self and others. Picture Description Test is a very good projective (perception) technique/measure to evaluate a person’s patterns of thought, attitude, behaviour, emotional responses, originality and personality.

Tablet were introduced in class S2 to ease the burden of bags.

The Flipped Class Terrain was explored and implemented in Classroom teaching. The student teacher interaction goes beyond the 4 walls of Classroom and also enables the teacher to observe and intervene as the students work. Flipped Learning is learner centric, and enables students to practise and become masters at the task at hand.

Modern School has also started the use of the School Attendance App called ‘Infinite Student’. This is available on Android and IOS devices. This app enables teachers to automatically notify the students’ absence from school and the parents can see their ward’s attendance record.

To conserve energy, we have undertaken the Rooftop Solar Energy Project.

A few more exhibits have been added to the Science Park of our school viz. ‘Magic of Trigonometry’, ‘Tower of Hanoi’ and ceramic tiles displaying atomic number, mass number of the elements & its uses, have been pasted on the boundary walls of our school.
