* To focus professional attention on quality art education and exemplary art educators.

* To increase public awareness of the im- portance of quality art education.

* To provide tangible recognition of achievement, earn respect of colleagues, and enhance professional opportunities for NAEA members.

Individual Members

State/Province Associations

Affiliates

NAEA members who meet the established criteria. Membership is not required for the Distinguished Service (Outside the Profes- sion) award.

Award nominations and supporting docu- mentation are submitted to the appropriate award coordinators [see individual award descriptions for details]. The coordinators, in conjunction with appointed committees, make the final selections; with one excep- tion, state/province associations select their own "State/Province Art Educator of the Year." Contact your state/province associa- tion president for guidelines.

The selection committees reserve the right to deny awards in any category.

Award packets must be submitted to the appropriate persons by October 1, 1999, unless otherwise stated. This timeline al- lows the selection committees sufficient time to review documentation, verify member- ship, make final decisions and submit the names of winning recipients to the national office by November 1, 1999.

Note: The national office processes, veri- fies, engraves, labels, packs and ships over 120 awards. Awards postmarked after Oc- tober 1,1999 will be processed on a delayed basis, and mailed to the award recipients in the summer.

The National Art Education Association is divided into six job-alike categories called Divisions: Elementary, Secondary, Middle Level, Higher Education, Supervision and Administration, and Museum Education.

Division award nominees must spend at least 51% of their work day in the job division in which they have been nominated. For ex- ample, educators who work primarily as ad- ministrators or supervisors are not eligible to receive elementary division awards, even if that is the level administrated or supervised. This member should be registered in the Supervision and Administration Division.

Awards are presented in the spring at the annual NAEA convention, with the excep- tion of the Standards of Excellence awards which are presented throughout the year. Winners are announced in the NAEA News.

Upon notification, each award recipient is asked to provide pertinent information so press releases may be sent by the national office to employers, local media, art depart- ments, school administrators, etc.

The National Art Education Association is divided into four geographical Re- gions: Eastern, Western, Southeastern, and Pacific.

Regional award nominees must hold membership in the geographic region in which they have been nominated. For example, a member of the Southeastern region may only be nominated for a Southeastern region award.

Eastern Region Connecticut, Delaware, District of Co- lumbia, Labrador, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Brunswick, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Overseas Art Education Association, Pennsylvania, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia.

Western Region Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kan- sas, Manitoba, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Northwest Territory, Ohio, Oklahoma, Saskatchewan, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Southeastern Region Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ken- tucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Caro- lina, Tennessee, Virginia, and the Virgin Islands.
