The Power of Adobe Illustrator in Design

Adobe Illustrator is a wonderful tool that

people overlook in their excitement to get to

Photoshop. What they don’t realize is that

Illustrator has the power to do things they

couldn’t even dream of before.

For one, Adobe Illustrator has the power to

make vectors. A vector is a computer image

that is built on a mathematical formula

instead of on a set of pixels.

An image based on a set of pixels has its limits. It cannot increase the number of pixels inside without

distorting the image (and creating a pixelated image).

Hence, your picture has almost no ability to grow larger than it already is. You can see the limitations of

this kind of an image.

In contrast, an image based on a mathematical formula can be increased or decreased to any size and

retain its sharp look. A vector is much better for creating billboard sized text and images.

Vectors

Anything less and you’ll be very disappointed with your image. Vectors are used to create fonts.

That’s why you can take Times New Roman, Calibri, or any other font in your document and blow it up

to any size without losing resolution. Look at a non-vector font to compare the difference.

Use it to create vector images. You will never have to worry about blurry images.

It creates smaller files than rasterized ones. The pixel based pictures are called “rasterized.”

It simply means that pixels have been applied to it (limiting the pictures potential to be blown up). A

rasterized photo takes memory to remember every pixel on the screen.

The more pixels to remember mean a bigger file. Illustrator can make smaller sized pictures since it is

based on a mathematical formula.

Smaller pictures

Smaller pictures are easier to send, save, store, and backup. You can’t complain about saving space.

Many have learned the editing capabilities of Photoshop and fear that Illustrator is a more limited

platform. It can’t manipulate a photograph in quite the same way.

Although Photoshop does have a few

superior capabilities, Illustrator

provides many of the same useful

tools you would use in Photoshop. It

is enough to get many of your design

projects out.

It is an extremely good companion to

Photoshop. You can put the final

touches on any image you create in

Illustrator.

Many people purchase the design

package and completely ignore the

amazing capabilities of the other programs. Take a few hours to play with Illustrator and see how it can

improve your design work.

Stevens Henager College teaches the basics of Adobe Illustrator in its Graphic Arts Program in Boise.

Students of the Boise Graphic Arts Program learn the finer points of all of the important Adobe

products.

A large part of the world has standardized using these ever helpful programs. You would be dead in the

water without learning at least why people use it.

Take a tour of the campus and find out how this school can help you. Getting a degree from the Graphic

Arts Program in Boise can help get you into a new career.
