G reetings

G reetings Sorors, Amicae, Youth, Brothers, Family, and Friends! I hope this holiday season finds you

well and staying warm. This chapter has now moved into our eighth year of existence which was celebrated this past September. We have continued to strive for great things as both our chapters and auxiliaries have embraced our theme for this year: "LINKED", remembering we are all connected to one another and must stay connected to our communities through service. After celebrating The Magnificent Boule here in Chicago this past summer, we were ready to hit the ground running. From the sweltering summer heat, to the frigid winter temps, Team TPZ has been working the concessions at Soldier's Field to raise money for the organizations we work with and the scholarships we provide.

Tau Psi Zeta has continued to focus on service as we have volunteered at the ACS Breast Cancer Walks, helped out at the Alsip Park District for their Halloween celebration for kids, fed the seniors at True Rock Ministries and packaged items for the homeless at Salvation

Army for Thanksgiving, and are hosting our 9th Annual Toy Drive for needy children. Our Amicae have had a coat drive/angel tree for those in need and our youth volunteered at the Firefly Run and will be doing Christmas service at a local nursing home. Congrats go to our undergrads where Omicron Delta chapter recently brought in 17 new members as Alpha

Alpha has continued to do creative programming on their campus. Over the next few months, we look forward to having our Annual Leadership Retreat, celebrating Founder's Day with all Zeta and Sigma chapters in the Chicagoland area, and continuing to service various organizations in our community.

W e hope that you will join us for our annual chapter

Founder's Day Celebration, our Kwanza Fest for youth , and/or our signature Finer Womanhood Breakfast. As we enter the winter season, I hope that our efforts will inspire you to reach out to someone who is a little less fortunate and could use a warm giving heart this holiday season. Be blessed! Sisterly, Leslie M. Buckner, President

S weet Home Chicago! Those three simple words have a special meaning whenever someone talks about the Windy City. A city filled with beautiful architecture, rich history and plenty of shopping to enjoy welcomed the women of

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., for their national conference on July 6-10 at the Chicago Hilton. The festivities kicked off on July 6 with an opening ceremony hosted by Sigma Brother Warren Ballentine. Upon entering the opening ceremony, sorors were serenaded and given roses by the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. International President Sheryl Underwood welcome sorors to the Windy City while informing them on what’s ahead for the conference. Sorors enjoyed the entertainment of Ann Nesby, Carl Thomas, the Ms. Zeta Pageant and much more. TPZ brought home a first place award for chapter scrapbook and second place for chapter report. Alsip Amicae also brought home first place honors for their scrapbook.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, they did. Tau Psi Zeta participated in the Old School/New School Stroll Competition while bring home the $1000 prize. Great job! This was a great week for TPZ in their hometown.

S orors, Amicae, Youth, and guest convened on the Tinley Park Convention Center on November 9-10, 2012 to attend the 46th

Annual Illinois State Leadership Conference. Led by Illinois State Director Connie Pugh, the attendance at this year’s conference was the largest in recent history with a record breaking number of 350 registered sorors, 64 Youth participants, and representation from every Zeta chapter in the State of Illinois.

The atmosphere was optimistic and uplifting as to the direction of our sorority. Sorors enjoyed workshops that focused on health & nutrition, sisterhood, Finer Womanhood, and financial planning amongst other activities including a photo shoot. Soror Lucretzia Jamison, President of Rho Upsilon Zeta agreed that the conference was great. “I’m happy with how everything went at this conference. I have a positive feeling about the direction we are going and am glad we are taking a more modern way of looking at our sorority.”

S orors were informed of the chartering of Omega Pi Zeta chapter of Evanston, Illinois, the first chapter in the Great Lakes Region chartered under the leadership of

International President Mary Breaux Wright’s administration. The highlight of the day was announced by Great Lakes Director Michelle Porter Norman that the State of Illinois has approved Zeta license plates.

Congratulations to the ladies of Tau Psi Zeta and Tai Psi Zeta’s Amicae of Alsip Auxiliary for receiving the highest Z-HOPE points for 2011-2012. Together TPZ…. Showcases Zeta Spirit By Soror Janese Johnson

U nder the leadership of the Membership Committee, on September 30, 2012, TPZ held their annual “Welcome

Back Reception” at St. Ailbe Church. This year's theme was “Zeta Spirit.” Tables were decorated with various items, including cheer apparel, pom-poms, and megaphones. The reception was a way for chapter sorors, reclaimees and interested women to see all the committees, auxiliary groups and our 501c3 Foundation to learn about what they do, and find out how individuals can help, while having some fun and mingling with others. Attendees walked around to various committees' tables—many had sweet treats & small

take-away—meeting the chairpersons and representatives of the various committees who prepared poster boards, slide show presentations, and pamphlets full of information.

Each of the committees were represented, including Z-Fit, the newest committee formed to work on the health and wellness of the chapter. President Leslie Buckner greeted each attendee, there was a group scavenger hunt activity, and light refreshments were served over the day. Ashley Price, a young lady interested in the sorority said, “This event was incredible. It was a great way to interact with the women of Tau Psi Zeta chapter, learn about the organization, and meet the leaders of the committees. It gave me a better understanding of how the organization is structured and all the work that these ladies do. The women of Tau Psi Zeta Chapter certainly have lots of spirit and it got me and all the people in attendance excited.”

A special thank you goes out to Soror Tameka Bufford and the Membership Committee for all their hard work in planning this successful event.

Together TPZ...Embraces the Bonding of Sisterhood By Soror Danielle Coleman

O n Saturday, October 13, Tau Psi Zeta hosted their annual Fall Icebreaker at Westwood College in Calumet City, IL. 13 Interested women came out to hear

more about this extraordinary chapter, and the recurring phrase of the day was “Hard Working Women”.

Membership Chair Tameka Bufford welcomed everyone with opened arms. Sorors and guests introduce themselves. The interested women also had the opportunity to hear from members of Tau Psi Zeta and why they chose Zeta and, the history about Zeta. The day was filled with great energy from everyone. To lighten the mood, everyone participated in a game of American Idol but with a twist. Sorors and guests were split into group. Each group had to pick a nursery rhyme and putting it to a musical genre of choice. The room was filled with much talent, and much laughter!

Two thumbs up to the Membership Committee on a successful event!!

Together TPZ...Marches for Education By Soror Shatonya Flowers

A s summer vacation starts to wind down, students are

preparing to start another a school year with a new teacher, new classroom and classmates. But before everyone heads back to school, the City of Chicago holds a celebration in recognition of back to school. On August 11, Tau Psi Zeta Chapter participated in the 83rd Bud Billiken Parade.

The parade is the oldest and longest African American parade in the U.S. Members of TPZ along with their youth auxiliaries and adult auxiliaries walked and waved to the crowd as they represented the chapter and organization. Onlookers sat on the streets of King Drive with their families and watched the parade. This was the first year that TPZ participated in the Bud Billiken Parade. Together TPZ…. Helps SYS Settle in New Home

By Soror Charise Bennett

T he golden rule of real estate is location, location, location! Mona Purdy, the founder of Share Your Soles has certainly found a brilliant nugget on

the southeast side of Chicago.

Share Your Soles held an open house event on Saturday, September 8, 2012 to welcome visitors, supporters, and volunteers to their new warehouse location at 900 E. 103rd St., and of course the TPZ Family was on hand to aid in the celebration. TPZ Sorors, Amicae, and Youth sorted and organized donations, set up display tables, and provided visitors with information about the organization. The new location offers thousands of square feet in warehouse space, as well as administrative offices, and rooms to display the many souvenirs and gifts that Purdy collected during her global travels.

W ith DJ Dre on the turntables, the visitors and supporters swayed to the beats, while the volunteers whistled as they worked. As part of the celebration, the Jesse White Tumblers

performed some high-flying, gravity-defying feats to wow the crowd. Secretary of State, Jesse White spoke words of encouragement and Monday Purdy thanked her many supporters throughout the years.

As the celebration came to a close, Purdy said to TPZ, “You girls are my friends, you’ve been with me a long time, you’re the greatest. Thank you!” Great praise, indeed!

Together TPZ….Remembers the Gift of Giving By Soror Shatonya Flowers

N ovember is the month when we reflect on the things we are truly grateful to have in our lives. It is also the month of

Thanksgiving. when food is prepared and we spend the day giving thanks with our loved ones. On November 22, Tau Psi Zeta volunteered their time at the Salvation Army and True Rock Ministries. Sorors spent a few hours at The Salvation Army packaging items for the holidays.

At True Rock Ministries, TPZ helped workers serve seniors Thanksgiving dinner. Both events turned out to be a great success.

Together TPZ...Walk for A Good Cause By: Sorors S. Jackson, D. Coleman & S. Williams

T au Psi Zeta laced up their walking shoes and hit the pink pavement once again to support the American Cancer

Society to Save the Ta Ta’s on Sunday, October 14 in Orland Park, IL.

Zetas, Amicae, and family came out on a dreary Sunday morning to walk, pass out water, and cheer on the survivors as they walked proudly. But the rain didn’t keep this bunch away!! There were many smiling faces and excitement all around. Kasper the friendly Kappa started the day off with great music in the park, and the walkers lined up and the cheerleaders took their places!

S ome of the greatest moments were talking with Lisa T. ( 5-year survivor) who was joined by her husband with their matching pink bras; and Kathy T. (5-year survivor)

who was joined by her son and husband (both sporting pink hair), her mother and father (sporting a pink and white wig), and a host of family and friends supporting her; and Stephanie S. (10-year survivor) who stated as long as she can walk, she will walk for a cure

On Saturday, October 20, 2012, the women of Tau Psi Zeta gathered at Montrose Harbor Park in Chicago to support the annual American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Among the thousands of supporters, TPZ worked diligently whether it was handing out water, cheering other walkers on from the side lines, or walking in honor of those that lost the fight, survived, or are currently fighting breast cancer. Many guest speakers attended this year’s walk including ABC very own Roz Varon. Participants partook in a sultry and fun Zumba workout to get the adrenaline going. Local vendors showed their support to help make this event a spectacular one.

L ater that afternoon, Z-Hope teamed up Stork’s Nest to hold their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Workshop.

Guest Speaker GiGi Curry of Sisters Working It Out gave an outstanding workshop regarding breast cancer. The workshop provided tons of informational for guests and prizes were given out. Soror Carolyn Sales followed up with speaking to the young ladies about eating right during and after pregnancy.

Together TPZ...Stands Alone at the Top By: Soror Renee S. Byrd, Group Leader

O n any given Sunday, you can find the members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Tau Psi Zeta Chapter, and the Alsip Amicae

along with family, friends and other volunteers working the concession stand at Soldier Field. For the second year in a row, TPZ showed up and showed out. Under the leadership of Fervent Hearts Foundation President Renee Byrd who also severs as the Group Leader, the chapter took on a new venture and contracted through their foundation to work at Soldier Field. Through all their hard work and dedication, TPZ was surprised with a special honor. On September 9, 2012 at the Bears home opener, Shenita Walker, the Non-Profit Group Coordinator, presented FHF the 2011 Non-Profit Organization of the Year Award. The glass trophy was on display at Soldier Field for fans and workers to view along with a congratulatory sign and a picture of Stand 151 workers.

This award was to celebrate the success of winning the Outstanding Service Award on August 5, 2011 for working in 100 degree temperature with a smile. For the 2011 season, Team TPZ survived all 16 events held at Soldier Field. Team TPZ received a monetary bonus and a “shout out” on the Facebook page of the Chicago Bears for working all of the events!!! Team TPZ and Fervent Hearts Foundation finished #1 in Commission Sales raising over $16,000!! It was because of these accomplishments that we were named #1!!

T eri Lewis, a reclaimee to TPZ, worked her first game with Team TPZ to kick

off the 2012 season and she experienced why FHF and TPZ were honored. “For the Love of Zeta is all I can say! That was truly an experience. Hard Hard Hard work but the end result is worth it!”

As Team TPZ continues to showcase their work efforts and dedication throughout the 2012 Bears season, gratefulness and appreciation is shown to those that sacrifice for the benefit of others. Tau Psi Zeta was able to soar to new heights with the funds raised.

Together TPZ…. Takes A New Approach to A Historic Cause By Soror Anthena Gore

O n October 19, Tau Psi Zeta hosted its first National Education Foundation (NEF) Scholarship Fundraiser at Jimmy Green’s Bar & Grill in Chicago’s South Loop.

Committee Chair Tranese Walker and the committee strived to bring awareness to the cause and create an event that would engage donors and bring in more funds for future educational support. “I wanted to be proactive this year about raising money for scholarships and getting the word out about NEF,” said Walker. “So, I came up with something that I thought would appeal to different types of people.”

The section of Jimmy Greens reserved for the milestone event was peppered with sorority –themed décor, informational materials explaining the mission of NEF, and gift bags with mystery surprises for every lucky raffle winner. Hosting sorors warmly welcomed guests, which was appreciated by those ending a long work week.

“You get wonderful drinks and food for a great price, great fellowship with nice women, men, and friends and [other] very professional African-American people,” said Jennifer Mainor, a guest of Walker. “It’s a wonderful event and I’ll support her forever and ever.”

W ith the rising cost of education, committed friends and donors like Mainor will be a major factor for youth in the pursuit higher education. Charles Talbert, president of Iota Nu

Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., suggests that events such as the NEF event will make a grass-roots level difference.

“I believe tonight is relevant because in this climate, in this economy where we don’t know where funding comes from for educational enrichment and enhancement,” said Talbert. “So, having an event like this where individuals can make a contribution to ensure educational funding of some degree is a great thing.”

As it turns out, is a relaxing after-work activity that can be quite successful.

As the happy hour ended and attendees trickled out of the door, there were murmurs of sincere praise for the NEF Committee in organizing an enjoyable and professional event. The funds are still pouring in and supporters are looking forward to the next NEF event. The imagination and creativity of the NEF committee not only encourages more donations, but also replace worry with confidence and opportunity for students who are still cultivating those qualities in their pursuit of success.

NEF Mission Statement

To support higher education achievement through scholarships and conduct community education programs and related research to improve individual and community living standards.

A s summer vacations come to an end, many students are preparing to start another school year. But the ladies of

Omicron Delta were preparing to partake in list of events held during the first week of classes as volunteers and student ambassadors-- all while doing the work of Zeta. On August 20-22, OD took the opportunity to promote sorority and wish everyone luck on a good semester. Sorors passed out bookmarks with candy attached to welcome students back to the campus, passed out their famous “Lemon Twist” (lemonade with a blue twist) at Lemon Twist Tuesday on the South Quad of Eastern’s campus and hosted a forum entitled, “Everything you wanted to know.” The purpose of the forum was to showcase the different places to hangout and things to do around the city of Charleston, Illinois.

On August 28th, Omicron Delta held a Rush. Guests who attended the icebreaker event enjoyed light refreshments and conversation amongst each other while being informed on the history of Zeta and Omicron Delta..

On Saturday, September 8th, sorors got down and dirty by partaking in the Blue Mile obstacle course. This event was created in order to get more ladies active and breakout of their shells. The obstacle course consisted of running through hoops, crawling through mud, and much

more. A prize was given to the person with the fastest completion time. This was a fun event that everyone enjoyed.

O micron Delta partnered with the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Delta Chi Chapter on September 10th to host an Anti-Hazing forum for the students of Eastern Illinois

University. The forum was held in the Phipps Lecture Hall in the Physical Sciences Building. Sorors and Frats came out to learn more about the Anti-Hazing campaign that both Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., is supporting. The event was a success

On Saturday, September 15th, Lakeland College hosted the annual Special Olympics Family Festival. Every year, students from the surrounding community volunteer their entire day as assistants to individuals with developmental disabilities. The sorors of Omicron Delta are regulars to the event. Each year, more than half the chapter attends the event. Each Soror was assigned to an individual and assisted them the entire day in carnival activities.

T he ladies of Omicron Delta volunteered at the annual “Night of Hope” on September 30 at Jackson Avenue Café in Charleston,

Illinois. At this off-campus event, sorors served soup to the guests. These sorors are making sure that Zeta Phi Beta is noticed on and off their campus. They made sure to get out into the community and spread that Zeta Love .

O n October 20, the ladies of Omicron Delta Chapter headed back to the streets. OD, who recently adopted 7th Street, spent the day cleaning up in the community of Charleston, Illinois. In

adopting a street, an organization is required to clean that street at least two times per month. Sorors cleaned a seven block area and introduced themselves to the residents while doing their service. By their smiles and reactions, it was evident that the residents appreciated this gesture. After the event, the street looked absolutely amazing. This is an ongoing service event for the chapter.

Zeta Week was unlike any other week ever conducted by Omicron Delta. The theme for the week was “Ntruderz of the Night.” The week kicked off with a Neophyte celebration for Z.S.N.T.RU.Z.I.O.N on Saturday, October 27. The ladies looked absolutely exquisite in their gowns. They received an abundance of gifts from sorors, family and friends. There were many alumni sorors present to celebrate with these young ladies.

On Sunday, October 28th, the chapter hosted their annual bonfire. This year, open mic was added to the event. The bonfire provided a very intimate atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a night of hot cocoa and smores while listening to the spoken word, poetry, and songs. Guests were even allowed to arise from the crowd. Due to the extremely cold weather that day, the open mic moved from the seating area to everyone crowding around the fire. Despite the cold weather, people definitely had a good time.

I n addition to October being the month of Breast Cancer Awareness, it is also the month we celebrate Halloween. On October, 31st, sorors joined forces with Delta Sigma Theta, Kappa Alpha

Psi, and Phi Beta Sigma to host a haunted house. Each organization chose a theme and transformed their homes into houses of horror. Zeta Phi Beta chose a doll house theme. With rooms of Voodoo, ventriloquist dummies, rag dolls, Barbies, and the Chucky doll, this event received some of the greatest reviews of the week. OD is definitely looking forward to next year.

As Zeta Week came to an end, the sorors opened up their home as a restaurant. On November 1, the Zeta House transformed into “Z-Dubbz.” This was the Zeta version of Buffalo Wild Wings. Sorors fried chicken and French fries and dipped them in the sauces of the customer’s choice. This year, we also delivered to people by way of Twitter orders

E very other year, Eastern Illinois hosts BSR, or Black Student Reunion, a weekend catering to

black alumni of the university. On Saturday, November 10, Zeta Phi Beta’s, Omicron Delta undergrads, alumni, and a soror from Zeta Tau Zeta, performed in the step show. The theme for this year’s show was tribute to our founders. OD brought home a first place win for the second year in a row and walked away with the $1200 prize.

Omicron Delta presented to the campus of Eastern Illinois University their newest members, Z.S.S.S.A.F.E.H.A.V.E.N on November 11. The coming out show was amazing! With 17 young

ladies becoming a part of the Blue and White Family, they will make great additions to the chapter and to the organization as a whole. This BSR weekend was definitely the Zeta-Takeover!!!

T he Finer Women of Alpha Alpha Chapter are stepping up and speaking out. They knew the

importance of voting and having a voice in the 2012 Presidential Election. Their determination to get the word out has been expressed as seen above. The movement to vote was blasted over several social networks including Facebook, Twitter as well as Instagram. This simple gesture was intended to inspire proactive decision-making alongside participation in the voting process. Alpha Alpha participated in the all-Greek Election Day watch party , which was another impactful way to spread the excitement about voting.

Members of Alpha Alpha had a busy scheduled during the month of November. The ladies of AA were the host chapter of the 46th Annual Illinois State Leadership Conference on November 9-10 at the Tinley Park Convention Center in Tinley Park, IL. Even though they were in small numbers, Alpha Alpha greeted each soror with a and made sure seasoned sorors had everything they needed as well as attendees. After a long and tiring day, AA held their own and survived a day filled with sorors and valuable information regarding the state and organization.

F rom November 20-26, Alpha Alpha kicked off the Thanksgiving week a March of Dimes Bake Sale in Cougar Hall from 12p-2p. If you had a taste for something

sweet, this was the place to be. The bake sale consisted of cookies, cake, pies, etc. Twenty percent of the proceeds went to the March of Dimes. The Pearlettes and Amicettes have been just as busy as TPZ members. As the fiscal year jumped-off, the youth auxiliaries hit the ground running and haven’t stopped since.

S eptember 29, the youth attended the Apple Orchard. The weather was beautiful and the air was crisp. The Pearlettes and Amicettes spent the day feeding goats, getting lost in

the corn maze and of course, picking apples. After an eventful day, the youth wrapped up their outdoor adventure in the County Line store purchasing apple cinnamon donuts and apple cider.

O ctober 14, the high spirited Pearlettes and Amicettess cheered on walkers at the ACS Walk in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Despite a little rain, the youth still managed to provide cheers for everyone to keep them motivated.

T he youth auxiliary groups spent a fun-filled day at the Alsip Carnival and Comer Festival on October 27. The youth were very excited to partake in such an exciting day. At the Alsip

Carnival, the youth played carnival games with tricks all while picking pumpkins for the pumpkin patch and decorating them. During the Comer Festival, everyone enjoyed the performance by the South Shore Drill Team along with games and prizes. By the end of the night, the youth were taken to a haunted house to complete

their Halloween celebration.

T he Pearlettes and Amicettes showed that they are more than just cute faces. On November 4, they paved the sidewalks of the mall to sell Carson Community Day Coupons. The Girls of Pearls also took

time out to participate and spread the word about Prematurity Awareness.

TPZ High Shines at Welcome Back Event

By Archonette Ashanti Pulphus

W elcome Back Big Sisters, Friends, Youth and Fellow

Archonettes of Tau Psi Zeta! On September 30, we

participated in Tau Psi Zeta’s annual Welcome Back

Reception at St. Alibe. As we celebrated the start of

another Zeta Archonette year, we participated in a scavenger hunt that

not only taught us about the sorority that we represent but also about the

chapter that sponsors us. The Welcome Back Reception allowed us to

create a display table and poster board to showcase what we’re all about.

We had to opportunity to see the different types of committees within the chapter as well as scope out

committees we want to work with in the near future. Our display board was a huge hit. We worked very

hard on our display table and were very proud of the feedback. Shout out to our Principal Big Sister

Leslie Buckner for presenting us an award for our hard work! Big things are yet to come.

T he Zeta Archonettes kicked off their first meeting of the year on September 16 at the South Shore Cultural Center on 71st & South

Shore. This wasn’t our typical business meeting. We decided to add a little spice to things by having a BBQ on the lakefront. It was the perfect day to take in some sun and hit the beach.

We were ready for fun-filled day with our club sisters and to hear about everyone’s summer. There were a lot of new faces at the meeting. We invited personal friends to join

us for some fun and games and to learn about TPZ High. Archonette Advisors Johnique Smith and Camille Tunstall fired up the grill with hamburgers and hot dogs and talked to the young ladies about the 2012-2013 year.

Everyone enjoyed their time on the lakefront with good company and good food. We even had a chance to bond with some new and future ZA sisters.

In the words of Queen Latifah, “Today was a good day.”

A s a Zeta Archonette, we learn about values and principals. Throughout this journey, one principal that’s very near and dear to me is Sisterhood. I

have a younger sister at home and she can never be replaced. I also have 25 Archonette sisters that could never be replaced either. Within our sisterhood, we have sleepovers, share each other’s clothes, go on shopping trips, comfort another through the good and bad times, attend Archonette Club meetings and so much more to increase our sister bond. If one of us is having a bad day at least one of our sisters will notice. It’s impossible to feel down and out around this

group of girls because one or two of us will try to make you feel better. What a great feeling! I love my Archonette sisters and I hope everyone else feels the same way. To me sisterhood is about bonding and having each other’s back. I feel that when I’m with these girls. As our bond continues to grow, I’m looking forward to mak-ing new friends at my first regional conference in April and expanding that bond with other Zeta Archonettes. TPZ Archonettes have a bond that can’t be touched.

T his year’s election was another one for the history books. President Barack Obama was re-elected as the first African American President of

the United States of America. In addition to the presidential election, the Zeta Archonettes held elections during our October club meeting.

This year’s elections were very special to me because I was running for Archonette president. I was very excited as I stood in line waiting to cast my vote. As I waited to cast my vote for the Archonette elections,

I wondered if this is what it would feel like to vote in this year’s presidential election or doing civil rights when we had just earned our right to vote. After all the votes were accounted for the results were in. Congratulations to the newly elected board members of the

Archonette Club:

Kyilah Terry-President

Aysia Cato-Vice President

Ashanti Pulphus-Secretary

Ariyanna Davis-Chaplain

Tari Icey Rye-Treasurer

As president, I will do my very best to keep

everyone informed of things going on with our

club, listen to them and lead our club to great

things.

Ladies, let the history making begin!

T he 46th Annual Illinois State Conference was an awesome experience! This is my second year as an Archonette but my first State

conference. The Illinois State Conference was held at the Tinley Park Convention Center in Tinley Park on November 9-10.

The day started very early for us. Everyone came together in the main conference room for a warm welcome before breaking

into groups. We attended different workshops that focused on topics like bullying. We also learned a new stroll, which we were very excited about to do. This year marked the first year that they youth showed up in big

numbers: 64 youth registered. After a spending the day at the workshops, we headed over to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. We enjoyed the evening with good food and laughs. As I looked around the room, I was very happy to see how well we get along with one another. We ended the night skating and practicing our new strolls and steps. I had the best time ever. I’m already looking forward to next year’s conference.

O n September 15, the Archonettes teamed up with the youth at the Light Up the Night Firefly Race at Montrose Harbor. This particular race started at night unlike most other races.

The runners were dressed up in glow-in-the-dark outfits and lights. We assisted the youth with passing out volunteer T-Shirts, held down the gear/coat check-in, and passed out water and even helped direct traffic.

We had a lot of fun participating in this service project and we’re hoping to go back next year.

O n November 3, the ladies TPZ Zeta Archonette Club hooked up with the Sigma Betas of Iota Nu Sigma for a much needed stress reliever party at

Club TKO on 67th and South Chicago Ave.

The DJ kept everyone on the dance floor the entire night. The best part of the night was seeing our big sisters from Tau Psi Zeta on the dance floor doing the Wobble.

This event was a much needed party to clear our minds of all the school activities and homework. Light refreshments was served and we all danced the night away.

W elcome home to Tau Psi Zeta High. Here the award winning Zeta Archonettes thrive and flourish while training to be our leaders of

tomorrow.

Both Johnique and I will be guiding and cultivating our little Forget Me Not Flowers on a journey that will instill in them Finer Womanhood skills, scholarship opportunities and advancements, a love for community service, implantation of the bonding seeds of sisterhood and sisterly love and priceless memories. Enrollment is always open.

If you know a young lady between the ages of 14-18 whose looking to work towards creating happiness for others, wants to develop new interests while gaining opportunities to make responsible decisions, to develop social confidence and to better relate to their peers, parents and adults in general, bring her to TPZ High.

Our doors are always open. We look forward to an outstanding record breaking year and are glad that many have decided to join us, will you be next?

All proceeds will be directed to the AFC’s grant making program, which has provided community-based agencies nearly $14 million in support since 1988.
