PARENT ACADEMY, THURSDAY 10th Nov. @09:15— Parent Academy is a great way for parents of children in Years 3,4,5,6 to find out more about what your child is learning at school and how you can help them!

Dear Parents and Carers, The first week back after half term has flown by! I hope you have all noticed the dramatic change in the Early Years playground. The play structures and garden are taking shape and the playground should be ready in a couple of weeks time. We have also replanted the dying trees, so we now have 9 lovely silver birch trees in the courtyard. Every year group will soon be assigned a tree for them to look after!

Huge thanks to the newly formed PTA for a successful Halloween Party. It was well attended and we had a number of children and adults dressed very imaginatively. Thank you to all who supported the event. The PTA worked hard to organ-ise this in a very short time but we really need more parents to join the group . The next event will be The Netley Campus Exhibition. We will need the PTA to provide the refreshments and all the money raised will go towards the school. Please speak to Linda Shervill or one of the Parent Governors if you would like to help.

On Wednesday , we held a parents meeting with Anthony Stoll, the Chair of Governors. I was disappointed that only 10 parents attended the meeting. However, the 10 mothers who attended were very keen to find out about the school’s vi-sion and we had a successful discussion about how we could improve the school. My thanks to Nazma Banu, one of our staff members, who spoke of her experience as a working mother which was very well received. SIGN OF THE WEEK

On Friday 21st October a group of children from Year 5 and Year 6 went to the WHY? (What’s Happening for the Young?) Festival. This was an event to explore how under-18s can understand and use their rights to influence the world around them. We had the pleasure of listening to some very inspiring young people, who were passionate about making a difference to the world. Many of them had been through some very difficult times, but had overcome the obstacles in their way.

The children took part in workshops that inspired them to think about ‘what makes them special’, ‘who they would like to be when they’re older’ and ‘what they want to change about the world’. The children had a fantastic day and really did Netley proud.

The boys and girls football teams had the first game of the year at Regents High School this Tuesday. We had a win, loss and draw.

Great sportsmanship was shown throughout the evening. Go Netley!

Well done to 4PK who performed their Assembly in front of the whole school, and a number of Netley parents, at the end of last term.

There were some excellent dance moves on display!

The Netley Halloween Party was a great success this week! Well done and thank you to everybody that attended and helped to organise the event. Everybody looked suitably horrible in their costumes and the food displays looked and tasted great. Well done to the newly formed PTA for all of their hard work.

The next event the PTA will be involved in is the Netley Exhibition in early December. If you would like to help the PTA in the build up to this event, please speak to Linda Shervill or to one of the Parent Governors.

I’M GOING TO HAPPY SCHOOL

YEAR 4 We had our last session with Lola from the little architect's this week. We have learnt so much about amazing architecture around the world and have seen how it is inspired by historic styles. We ended our work with the little architects by designing our own futuristic buildings combining all the ideas that we have been learning about over the past three sessions.

EYFS In Reception this week we have enjoyed finding patterns in the environment and making our own.

YEAR 2 This week we have been imagining that we are sailing around the world with Ellen MacAr-thur! We put on our life jackets and set sail on our yacht! Along the way, we encountered storms, broken generators, and we nearly collided with a whale! In Maths we are getting really good at adding 10 to a number and using number lines to help us!

YEAR 5 This week we have begun rehearsals with 'The Place' to develop our dance piece based around our topic of Amazon Rainforest animals! We are so excited for next week when our rehearsals continue... Watch this space...

YEAR 1 In Year 1 we have been making domino windows. We added the three numbers on each side to find the total. We had a challenge to make the top and bottom of the window equal the same total but we enjoyed the trial and error of the task!

WOODLANDS Maple and Oak class went to a performance of the 'The owl who was afraid of the dark' at the Unicorn theatre. The performance was one of many offered through the partnership between the theatre and Netley. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all!! Here Maryan smiles as she rides the tube with her social story about the performance.

YEAR 6 This is week we have started to focus on non-chronological reports in English and fractions in Maths. We are preparing to write non-chronological reports about lots of famous Victorians and have begun with Queen Victoria. In maths, we have been investigating parts in a whole and have been challenged to represent fractions.

YEAR 3 We have been learning the bridging method in Maths using ten frames. Also we learnt a fantastic song in Spanish. Hola! Buenos Dias! Keep an eye on the website for a video of 3RE's version with Mr Dimo on guitar!
