ABSTRACT
The McGill Nursing Collaborative for Innovation and Education in Patient- and Family-Centred Care is
a unique donor-supportive initiative designed to increase synergies across practice, research and
education among the Ingram School of Nursing and McGill-affiliated hospitals and to build new local,
national and international collaborations that capitalize on the rich and unique opportunities for
clinicians, researchers and leaders in nursing offered by the University, the city of Montréal and the
province of Québec. Its first director, who is also the inaugural holder of the Susan E. French Chair in
Nursing Research and Innovative Practice, is Professor Sean Clarke, a health services researcher
specializing in organizational aspects of quality and safety in hospital care, workforce issues in nursing,
and health policy evaluation whose previous academic appointments were at the University of
Pennsylvania and the University of Toronto. In this presentation, the origins and purposes of the
Collaborative will be outlined, along with the opportunities that its initiatives will provide for
researchers and staff across the McGill community.
