AN ESSAY ON DESIGN EDUcATIONIn order to understand our selves, we must firstunderstanddesigneducation.Indepthanalysis of design education can be an enriching experience.Citedbymanyasthesinglemostimportantinfluenceonpostmodernmicroecocompartmentalism, design education is not given the credit it deserves for inspiring many of world famouspoliticians.Itisanunfortunateconsequenceof our civilizations history that design education is rarely given rational consideration by those most reliant on technology, whom I can say no more aboutduetolegalrestrictions.ComplexthoughitisIshallnowattempttoprovideanexhaustivereportondesigneducationanditsnumerous‘industries’.
Social FactorsSociety is a simple word with a very complex definition.UponPeterPinkleton - PishPosh’sreturntoBritainheremarked‘classwillreflecttheinnerhero’1, he failed to understand that if one seriously intends to ‘not judge a book by its cover’, then one mustreadalotofbooks.Spanningdividessuchasclass, race and ugliness, design education is crunchy ontheoutsidebutsoftinthemiddle. Of paramount importance to any study of design education within its context, is understanding the idealsofsociety.Itbreaksthemould,shatteringman’smisunderstandingofman.
Economic FactorsDerived from ‘oikonomikos,’ which means skilled in household management, the word economics issynonymouswithdesigneducation.WewillprimarilybefocusingontheSpanish - Armadamodel.Takingspecialcaretohighlighttheroleofdesign education within the vast framework which thisprovides.

Design Education
Clearly the graphs demonstrates a strong correlation.Whyisthis?Seeminglythemarketvalue of gold will eventually break free from the powerfulinfluenceofdesigneducation, butnotbefore we see a standardised commercial policy for all.Theeconomicpolicyspectrumisseeingaperiodofunprecedentedgrowth.
Political FactorsPolitics – smolitics!Comparingcurrentpoliticalthought with that held just ten years ago is like comparingnightandday. We cannot talk of design education and politics without remembering the words of style icon Bartholomew Skank ‘political change changes politics, but where does it go?’2Thisquotationleads me to suspect that he was not unaccustomed todesigneducation.Itspeaksvolumes.Ifdesigneducationisthefoodofpolitics,playon. I hope, for our sake that design education will endure.
conclusionWe can say with certainty design education paradesalongman’sstreetsandmanwavesback.Itestablishesorder,ensuresfinancialstabilityandneverhides.I’llleaveyouwiththisquotefromElvisMalkovitch: ‘I would say without a shadow of a doubt:designeducationROCKS!!!’3

“The relatively easy access to digital photo and video cameras combined with the global distribution platform of the internet has altered the traditional statistical relationship between image producer and image consumer.” -BorisGroys,Going Public
In times when the role of ‘visual producer’ is not anymore limited to those who called themselves a designer, or those from elite institutions, with thegrowingnumbersofvisual-generatingdevicesthat allows an instant personal creation that was once a task of the professional, it is also the most relevant time to take into account the parallel world ofimage-makingthatwearesurroundedby-thepoetics and aesthetics of the automatic, brainless, massivelygenerativetools.
Amongtheseeasilyaccessed,do-it-yourselfapplications exist such as, text generators, image generators, logo generators, and even book layout generators.An‘InternetMeme’hasprovenitselfasoneofthemosteffectiveplatformsindeliveringone’sideaacrosstheglobe.
A“meme”isavirally-transmittedculturalsymbolor social idea, which may take the form of an image, hyperlink, video, picture, orwebsite.Itspeakswith the use of copied, stolen or adapted images, creating an aesthetic that exhibits the capacity to
propel a political voice, an idea, social problem, oraconceptualfigure.Memesareblunt, ironic, preposterous, weird, and humorously ‘silly’ creative productions.Yettheyareindicativeofsomethinglargerthentheyinitiallyseemtoembody.Beingborn and dying every few seconds, the validation of the Meme exists within a certain moment, correspondingtothevoiceofcontemporarysociety.
With such qualities comparable to a visual communicator,TheMasterDesignGeneratorismadeasatributetothesetwoparallelworlds.Itis practically a yearbook; it is about the time, the mental-space,thepeople,andthecreationthatemerged at thistemporarystage.Thespecificsetofconversations and environments was only possible withinthisparticulargroupandduringthisspecificperiodoftime.Amultitudeofinsidestoriesthatyou wouldn’t understand outside the context of this placeandtime.TheMasterDesignGeneratorhascaptured thekeymomentsandgeneratedthemintoa distributableformat.
With this book you are holding in your hands, we aim torepresentthefragmentsoftheindividuals; as parts, as a whole, as an institute, and above all as the design department of Sandberg 2011-2012.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT Think Tank for visual strategies
Or:– a cultural think tank for visual strategies;– a research and development department for society;– an autonomous zone;– a mediator in the investigation of social priorities;– an intellectual playground.
Gone are the times that a design existed as ‘amedium’–suchasaposter,bookorwebsite.Itnowexistsin,orinbetween,themedia.Thereforethepracticeofthe‘mediadesigner’has changed from designing information to dealingwithinformation.Designershave become surfers in an omnipresent ocean of information, holding balance by their focus on structuring, conducting, andshapingdialogues.Withastrongradarfor socialchange, theyareactuallycriticalagentsofprocess.Asresponsibleprofessionalsanddedicated enthusiaststheygovern communication, reflection, understandinganddebate.Indoingsonewperspectives are visualized that engage with socialissues. In this project “song, sign, sing” I develop a medium betweenimageandsound.Theimageistranslatedintosound.Whenthesoundisplayedthroughaspectrogramtheimagebecomesreadableagain.
House and Techno music form a part of some musicalstyleswhichdefinethemachineasamusicalcompositioninstrument.Thesamplerisoneof those machines that, thanks to its particularities, have expanded the musical language and therefore the way to see and to think about the world, or at leastthemusic.
Thesepragmaticdetails, inwhichborrowingistheheart of the creation, raises several issues about composition, interpretationandmusicalscores.
SELF-INITIATED SPEcTOGRAM /BOOK
By using and interpreting samples, these become newmaterial.Thismakestechnoandhousemusicstylescultivatorsofspecificrelationshipsofauthorship.Theseformstakeapositionbetweencopyrightandallography 1.
Indeed, through these styles, musical scores don’t exist anymore as a mediation between the composer and its interpreter, but as an interface forthecomposerandmachinedata.Theroleoftheinterpreterseemstobesubstitutedbythemachine.Finally the music doesn’t seem to lose its allographic aspect, it just seems to transform its rules and reorganizesitsborders.
So this project is a kind of translation of the problematics introduced by these musical styles in regardtosignsandsemiotics.Inthisproject, analphabetical book, the print form is visualized in a spectrogram, while the sound played is translated bythespectrogramintotheletteritself.Throughthis project the translation of the symbol, which is a substitute for the representation of the piece, isreversed.Anewdialogueisformalizedbetweentranslationsofthegraphicsign, thephoneme 2,thegrapheme 3,andtheglyphe 4.

://Belle-Phromchanya.th/During the beginning of 2nd semester at Sandberg Instituut, I encountered a state of dubiety regarding my position within thegroup.EventhoughIwasat the studio, greeting fellow students, joining reading classes, participating in workshops; I discovered that, in fact, I had been living in my own islandcalled‘NuankhanitB.Phromchanya’.Apersonalterritory with rather unusual name, and somehow separated fromthe‘MainlandSandberg’.
With a desire to get out of this destructiveloop, theveryfirstconclusion I could came up with is to talk to people more; socializing, being involved with fellow students in any possible way.Usingthissemesterinexploring other individuals, implementing myself into the Mainland, with the hope to finallyblendinorbecome apartofit.
Thecollaborationwith9otherstudentsduringFebruary – Aprilof 2012 was disguised as a mean to reach the person, to be in communication and socialize, within the context of learning fromoneanother.
To be individual, to be diffrent, to be the true self.To get connected, to be a part of, to belong. What to be and how to be.Still, go on.

BOO!This is a story of ghosts, spectres and chimeras. It is set in an abandoned building in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark, a peculiar pavilion with domed towers, round - arched windows and fluted Ionic half - columns. Once known as the “House of Illusions”, this empty pavilion now serves as temporary accommodation for a group of ghost hunters. As the spirits of dead film stars haunt the cellar, the ghost hunters take aim at a number of contemporary myths on the first floor.
Allow me to introduce them.
First, we have Stefan Schäfer (alsoknownas“Germany”),whogrewup in a mining area in the Ruhr in a family of Jehovah’s Witnesses and assumedanewidentitywiththehelpofblackmetalandgrindcore.This“strange,German,rational,romanticpunkrockguy”goesafterthechimerasofvisualrepresentation.Wecreateimagesofourselvesand unleash them in a digital space where we no longer have control overthem.Whoarethesemenandwomenwhohaveourfacesbutnot our souls? Next, we have Guido Giglio(“Brazil”forshort),trainedasanarchitectin the Brazilian modernist tradition, fascinated by Greek philosophy andstronglyinfluencedbyaMarxistpoliticalbackground.GigliodescriesaspectrethatishauntingEurope – aspectrecalledAusterity.EuropeisgraduallyturningintoaThirdWorldcontinent, withpoorregionsthatprovidecheaplabour, low - techproductionandattractivetaxratesforthericherones.Letusnotfearthisghost,Gigliosays,butratherembraceit.Austeritycouldofferawayouttoadifferent,daring,ingeniousfuture.InAusterity,wewillfinallyencountereachother.

Finally, we have Yuri Veerman, Dutch activist modernist, “our man at thebarricades”,andthemanbehindseveraldisruptivewebsites.Likeapalmistry expert, Veerman studies and analyses the lines and signs in oursociety.Butwhileapalmreaderseesyourpastandfutureinthelines in your hand, Veerman chooses to view lines as lines, separate from themeanings,interpretationsandsymbolicvaluesweascribetothem.Heseesthingsasthings.Aflag,alogo,anationalanthem,acountry’sborder: what do these objects think of the way they are used to represent nationalities and ideologies?
