LET IT SNOW Winter decoration with

a flocking effect

The dream of a perfect Christmas: roofs are white with snow and icicles hang from the eaves whilst the landscape lies covered in a winter blanket of snow. Unfortunately, a white Christmas is often just that: a dream. For guaranteed snow and winter magic at home, you can create your own snow effect vases. You’ll be surprised at how quickly old bottles, vases and pine cones become snowy eye-catchers.

Did you know?White is the sum of all colours in the spec-trum. In other words, physically, white isn’t an absence of colour but the sum of all colours.

We show you step-by-step how to guide to easily make your own decorative pieces with just a few materials.


Remove the labels from the bottles. The easiest way to do this is first soak them in warm water with some washing up liquid.

Generously pour coarse salt onto the work surface.

Spread craft glue or spray adhesive onto the surface of the clean bottles. Roll the bottles in the coarse salt and let the glue and salt dry.

Spray the bottles with white paint and watch the wonderful snow effect emerge. The WAGNER Studio Sprayer is perfectly suited for such delicate projects. Fill the container with paint and stir well. To stabilise the bottles, use a thin wooden stick or similar to hold them steady during the spray painting step. Allow the painted bottles to completely dry. Add branches or twigs to complement the white and see how your snowy vases become a highlight in your living room.

Glue small, bits of dried driftwood to the glass. A hot glue gun works best for this.

After you’ve finished decorating the glass, spray it with white paint.

When it’s dry, your candle holder will look as if it’s been iced in the winter cold.

You will need:

Place the pine cones upright on newspaper or place them onto sticks.

Spray them with white paint. The WAGNER Studio Sprayer is ideal for small objects because the spray jet can be easily and precisely adjusted. A detailed jet works best here as well for optimal results. Allow the pine cones to completely dry.

Here’s how it works:Create your own decorative lids with an autumnal look. When it comes to choosing colours, your creativity has no limits. Here’s a couple of little tips to ensure that your shabby chic look is successful. First, line the lids up on newspaper and paint them with a primer that gives a metallic effect. After the primer has dried, spray the screw caps with a copper effect paint in your favourite colour. To perfect the used look, you can make little highlights with a rust activator. Be sure to allow the finished lids to dry completely before using them.

Autumn colours:Traditionally we think of red, brown and orange as autumn colours. But using a fresh green or smoky light blue as an accent colour can add that some-thing special to your creative projects.

Put the pumpkin purée, oats, flour baking powder, salt, bourbon vanilla, cinnamon and ginger in a mixing bowl. Then add the maple syrup and melted coconut oil and mix thoroughly. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes. Now fold in the chopped bits of chocolate.

Pre-heat the oven to 180 °C. While it’s heating, prepare the cookies for baking. Place small mounds of the mixture about two inches apart on a cookie sheet and then flatten them with a spoon. Bake for 14 – 18 minutes, and then enjoy your healthy treats while still warm, or allow them to cool before eating.

You will need:

200 g pumpkin purée 120 g rolled oats 100 g whole wheat flour 1 rounded tsp. baking powder2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground ginger 1 tsp. vanilla extract or 1 tsp. bourbon vanilla 120 ml maple syrup

1 pinch of salt 30 g coconut oil or melted coconut fat 50 g chopped dark chocolate

Can’t find your keys, missed your dental appointment, and, to top it off, even lost the

invitation to Lisa’s birthday party? We all know the feeling when the chaotic hallway

is absolutely no help at all during hectic mornings. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a little

helper that would let us organise all the small things we need for every day? Noticeboards aren’t just multifunctional, they can be a fun focal point in an entrance area or children’s

room and create order.

HAPPY COLOURFUL NOTICEBOARDS


You will need:

• Wooden shapes (e.g. coated MDF panels, about 10 mm thick)• School chalkboard paint, about 50 ml green or black• Saw (optional)

• 180 – 220 grit sandpaper• Micro-fibre cloth• Masking tape for delicate undercoats (painted)• Spray gun, e.g. WAGNER W 100• Fine-bristle paintbrush • Chalk

The steps for creating this are the same no matter what shape you choose for your noticeboard. Our instructions use an apple, a balloon, and a hippo shape for illustration.

Jack-of-all-trades for the entrance hallAll kinds of important things end up in a hallway besides shoes, coats and bags – like keys, notes and little fond memories. To put everything in its place, create an all-rounder like our balloon that not only helps you keep track of things but also gives you a warm welcome at the beginning of each day.

You will need:

• Magnetic paint

• Strings

• Hooks

• Small basket

This is how it works:Make a template and transfer the pattern to an MDF panel that is 10 mm thick and coated with a primer layer. You can have a carpenter cut the shape for you or cut it yourself. Sand any sharp corners and then drill a hole in the top for hanging it on the wall.

Lightly sand the wood with sandpaper or a sanding tool until the primer coating is matte. Then wipe thoroughly with the micro-fibre cloth. The surface should be dry and free of oil or dust.

Now, mask the areas that you want to be a different colour using masking tape.

Fill the spray unit with the chalkboard paint and thin it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Make a test spray on a sheet of cardboard.

Now, spray the edges of your piece first and then the main surface area.

After the first coat has dried, evenly spray a second coat. Let the paint dry after each coat following the manufacturer's instructions. Before painting the next colour, clean the spray attachment well.

Now, mask the surface you painted, remove the first tape, and paint whatever other colours you want.

Let this coat dry thoroughly as well.

Add practical details like hooks and little baskets yourself to make your noticeboard even more useful.

Creative noticeboards for little onesWould you like to surprise a little one who is just starting school with something small and individual as a gift? Noticeboards for their room can be easily made. A template can be used to make almost any favourite theme and make you a hero. Paint the details (like the eyes and mouth on the hippo) with a thin brush and let it dry.

Practical shopping helper for the kitchenNo onions and the salt shaker needed to be filled but you forgot them both again when you went shopping. An attractive kitchen noticeboard can help – the grocery list won’t get lost and your kitchen will have something new to look at.

Not only old pieces of furniture are worth restoring and beautify-ing. Sometimes useless objects, like worn car tyres, can be easily transformed into an interesting furniture highlight. The shape and size of tyres are perfect for making a small decorative table for your lounge or balcony.

Wrapped in hemp rope, the little table reminds us of traditional tables from Asia. Using your favourite colour, you can create a brilliant contrast to the natural look of the rope.

“Upcycling” – making some-thing new out of something old – is a trend which is here to stay. Upcycling is an atti-tude towards life that means a conscious decision to take responsibility. Instead of simply throwing things away, we can create wonderful unique objects with a history.

RUBBER – MAKE A STYLISH DECORATIVE TABLE MADE FROM A CAR TYRES

You will need:

• 1 x used car tyre • 2 x 6 mm plywood about 70 x 70 cm (big enough for the outside dimension of the tyre) or a pre-cut piece from a carpenter • Sandpaper

• 6 x torx-head screws• 50 m hemp rope, 12 mm diameter • 50 ml clear varnish

• 50 ml coloured paint

Tools: Electric screwdriver, drill, scissors, hot glue gun with at least 6 glue sticks, jigsaw (in case the wood needs to be cut)


This is how it works: Collect all the materials together from the materials list. If you don’t happen to have an old tyre at home, you can get one for free from your local dump. Clean it thoroughly. It must be dirt-free and dry. Have your DIY shop cut two 6mm thick plywood pieces to the circumference of the tyre (external dimension). Draw a circle on the plywood for the round shape. Our tip: Just put a little screw in the middle of the board, attach a string to it and tie a pencil at the other end. In just seconds you can make a perfect circle to the required radius. Saw the boards using an electric jigsaw. Or, have a carpenter cut them to the required size.

Drill three evenly spaced holes on each board; these will be used to attach the tyre. Use the electric screwdriver to fasten the wood boards to the tyre on one side, and then repeat the process on the other side of the tyre.

For the rope, start by putting the end in the middle of the wooden circle and then wind it around itself. Make sure you use plenty of glue so that it is well fastened to the board. It can’t hurt to have a little assistance for this step. One person can glue whilst the other winds the rope and it’ll get done quickly. It is not necessary to put glue on the bottom wood piece. When the wrapping is finished, cut the end of the rope.


Did you know? A car tyre is given its profile under pressure and heat above 150 °C, which is why we say that tyres are baked.

Get the spray unit readyThe sprayer is ready for use in just a few steps. Fill the paint container up to 3/4 full with paint and thin it following the manufacturer’s instructions. To do this, use the included stirrer, each notch corresponding to a 10% dilution. The suction tube can be aligned depending on how you are going to work. Downwards when spraying objects overhead and upwards when spraying downwards. The spray jet can also be adjusted three ways — horizontally, vertically and diagonally (for detailed work). Carry out a test spray to find the right settings for you.

Ready, set, spray Spray clear varnish to seal the hemp rope. That keeps the natural look of the rope. For the coloured part, select your favourite colour. Tape the part that should not be painted with a plastic sheet. Only change the direction of spray when the sprayer is past the object. This avoids a build-up of thicker layers of paint during direction changes. Maintain a constant distance of 5 – 15 cm from the object. Tip: If paint is applied too thickly, drips can form, so it's better to spray two thin coats rather than one thick coat. After spraying, allow the paint to dry in accordance with the manufactur-er's instructions.

Herbs to fight colds

When it’s wet and chilly outside during winter months, one thing is hard to avoid: catching a cold. Noses run, throats are sore and coughs don’t seem to want to stop. A natural remedy to alleviate the symptoms are herbal teas. They reinforce your immune System and help prevent the virus from spreading. Medicinal herbs prepared as teas fulfil two purposes at once: The herbs alleviate typical symptoms, such as a sore throat, and the water helps ensure that the mucous membranes are well hydrated. Thyme and plantain teas are good for coughs. Sage tea helps sore throats and camomile fights swelling and infection.

Long-term protection

A fresh coat of paint not only beautifies her wooden terrace, it also protects it from the effects of winter weather. If you use a spray unit as Debbie did, not only will the job be done faster, but your wood will also be protected longer. There won’t be any roller or brush hairlines where the surface is not protected and moisture and dirt can penetrating the wood. When you spray, you get an even surface and the paint is applied right down into the pores of the wood.

Debbie decided to not choose a significantly different colour. She preferred to keep the light tone and just make it look fresher.

Debbie purchased decorative pillows in autumnal red and orange for the terrace. The autumn look was complete when she added a number of pumpkin in various sizes. That brings a colourful autumn feel to her home and to enjoy many pleasant hours outside.

Paint your garage door

Many people – especially men – love their cars. Cars not only provide transportation from point A to B, they also offer opportunities for tinkering, polishing and renovate. Garages can also be hobby workshops and party rooms, storage areas for all kinds of garden utensils, bikes, tools and even function as extended cellars or substi-tute attics. They also protect our cars from wind and weather – the true all rounder.

Huge amounts of time are invested in the upkeep of a car – but what about the garage itself? It should match the condition of the car itself and harmonise with the overall appearance of the house. The problem? Garage doors are often exposed to weather without protection. Even scrapes and scratches unfortunately can't be avoided. Whether your door is metal or wood, at some point the paint is damaged or faded, and the door looks neglected.

Painting it, however, is an extremely laborious undertaking because of all the inden- tations in the panels, so it is often put off for another time. How to make it easier? We’ll show you now.

Did you know? The word ‘garage’ comes from the French for “garer” which means, approximately, “bring to safety”.

Preparation is everything: First, the old paint has to be sanded off of the garage door. Use an orbital sander or a random orbital sander to help get the job done faster. Any paint in the grooves can then be removed by hand using 120 grade sandpaper. For the perfect paint application, the surface must be dry and free from grease or dust. Coarse dust can be removed with a brush and fine dust can be re-moved with a micro-fibre cloth. Carefully mask off all of the surfaces that you don't want to paint. The easiest way to do this is to use masking tape combined with a paper or plastic sheet. For handles and other small parts, regular masking tape is ideal.

The sprayer is ready for use in just a few steps. Carry out a test spray to find the right settings for you. First a primer needs to be applied so that the paint sticks properly to the surface.

Start at the outer edges of the garage door and always change the direction of spray when the spray is beyond the door. This avoids a build-up of thicker layers of paint during direction changes. Maintain a constant distance from the object. Once the primer coat has dried, you can apply paint in any colour.

The results will make you proud.
