Where: Kuhlman Extension Center
Applications for one of these awards are due to the Extension Office by 5 p.m. Thurs-day, July 3rd. If you wish to apply for one of these awards, but you will be out of town on the 8th, you may provide a prerecorded DVD to play for the judges on that date. Application forms and instructions for recorded interviews are posted on the County Website http://randall.agrilife.org under 4-H Youth/Forms/4-H misc.
4-H Float in Canyon 4th of July Parade We want to invite all Randall County 4-Hers to help decorate and ride on the 4-H Float Friday during the Canyon July 4th Parade. J. D. will be pulling a 20ft. flatbed trailer. We'll have hay bales on it. Meet us at First United Bank Center Parking lot at 8am to complete the float decorating and be ready for parade kick off at 10am. The float will be equipped with a small generator and speakers so bring your tunes and we'll dance, "Pump It Up" and have a good ol’ Fashion 4-H Promotin' Time! We'll also have lots of candy on hand to pass out during parade. Please wear a green 4-H t-shirt, if you have one. Just look for J. D.’s pickup and trailer in the First United Bank Center parking lot at 8 a.m. this Friday morning. Everyone is invited. "Come On, Let's All Ride in 4-H Style" Hope to see each of you there!

“Preserving the Harvest” Food Preservation Class with Kids When: 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19th
Where: Potter County Extension, 3301 E 10th Ave, Amarillo, TX
A parent/guardian must participate in the class as well. You’ll learn the basics of water bath canning, freezing and dehydrating foods. Also, you’ll learn how to preserve food safely. What’s Happening
Foster/Family Dog Competition
Dogs with home environment expe-rience that are well mannered are more adoptable. Some families may not be able to make long term com-mitment to dog ownership. In an effort to encourage 4-H members to participate in this service learning

Wildlife Conservation Camp When: July 20-26
Where: Welder Wildlife Foundation in Sinton, TX
The camp if for high school students who will experience hands-on activities led by wildlife professionals. Activi-ties include: wildlife and plant ID, hunting as a man-agement tool, species diversi-ty, conservation ethics, wild-life capture and survey tech-niques, wildlife tracking, pred-ator-prey dynamics, white tail deer management, fishing, hunter safety, shooting skills, and much more. If you would like to be recognized at this event, please complete the Parade of Champions form enclosed in this newsletter or on our county website http://randall.agrilife.org/files/2013/04/14-parade-of-champions.pdf. These forms are due to the County Extension Office by 5 p.m. Monday, July 21st.
Also, please email 3 pictures of each 4-her being rec-ognized in the Parade of Champion ceremony from any 4-H activity during their years of membership. Please note on email that these pictures are for the Parade of Champions ceremony. The email address is highlighted below.
If you have any pictures of your 4-H members and their projects taken during the year, please email them to [email protected] by July 25th so they can be added to the Awards Banquet picture presentation.
Meal tickets for $10/ea will go on sale July 15th at the Extension Office.

County Record Books Judged
Some of you still haven’t picked your record book up at the Extension Office. If you brought in a record book that you didn’t want judged you may pick it up there also.
All Junior and Intermediate record books can go on to be judged at the district level, but
only the 1st place senior books can move on to District. Reg-istration deadline through 4-H Connect is 5 p.m. Thursday, July 3rd. District bound record books must be in the Exten-sion Office by 5 p.m. Monday, July 7th.

4-H Enrollment
Re-enrollment for 4-H opens mid August for $20/member. Cost for enrollment starting November 1st is $25. Remember to check all information when you re-enroll especially which school you will be attending dur-ing the 2014-2015 school year and your emails so we can make sure you get important information during the year. Also, if you wish to receive a copy of the monthly 4-H newsletter in the mail, please edit your family profile and choose mail as your corresponding preference. Club and project leaders MUST re-enroll in 4-H each year also. Background checks are run eve-ry 3 years. If you have someone else you would like to keep informed about 4-H like your grandparents or any-one else not living with you, you may place that email in the second household email field.
Leadership & Officer Training When: 9 a.m.—4 p.m. Monday, July 28th &
Tuesday, 29th
Where: Kuhlman Extension Center
This is a required training for all club and county council officers. Please make plans to attend and make sure all the officers in your club know of these trainings. Anyone who is interested in running for office in the future is welcome to attend and learn what is needed to be a good leader.
What’s Happening
4-H Raffle Booth There’s going to be a Pickup Raffle/Pen Sponsorship booth at the 4-H of July Fair on the Square here in Canyon. We’re asking for youth and adult volunteers to take a 2-hour turn at manning this booth and help raise money for a new Randall County Junior Livestock Show Facility. If you would like to volunteer, please call the Extension Office at 468-5543.

Junior Livestock Show Facility
Pen Sponsorship
Randall County is purchasing a facility to use for future Randall County Livestock Show and events. Our challenge is to raise funds to se-cure pens, audio/visual equipment and other necessities for a top-notch facility. We are offering a limited number of pen sponsor-ships to help us meet that goal. YOUTH LIVESTOCK WEBSITE RESOURCES
The new Texas 4-H Youth Livestock and Agri-culture web-site, www.texasyouthlivestock.com is some-thing that you are sure to want to keep handy because in the coming months we will be gradually adding resources. One of the great features that we introduced is the Ask a Live-stock Project Expert. It is a wonderful way to get resourceful answers from knowledgeable people throughout the state. Another thing that we are doing is building up the events calendar for Statewide Livestock events. Since this is a new site we are still in the process of getting more and more re-sources, so be sure that you check back often for the great updates that we will be doing in the near future. Join the Rabbit Project
Abby McCarty would like to encourage 4-H
members to join the rabbit project. Free Califor-
nia rabbits are available to everyone who has no
rabbit and would like to get started. Contact
Abby at 354-8680.
Livestock Lowdown
If you plan on competing in any of the fairs, the Coun-
ty or any major stock show and have not completed
the Quality County Training and Testing, you must get
this done. This is an online training that basically co-
vers livestock feeding and medication as well as ethic
topics. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the
training and test. There is a junior level as well as a
senior level test. Juniors must pass your test only
once during their 4-H career at which time you will be
issued a certificate of completion number. When you
become a senior you must take and pass a senior test
at which time you will be issued another completion
number. THIS NUMBER IS VERY IMPORTANT as it will
be a requirement to be recorded on all major show
entry forms. BE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH IT.
To access the Quality Count Training and Testing,
simply go to the following website, log in, provide
your name, address, etc. and start the training. Once
the training is reviewed, then take the test. You may
take it as many times as needed To learn more about
verification process, go to http://
qualitycounts.tamu.edu. AFTER YOU PASS THE TEST,
PRINT OUT THE CERTIFICATE AND KEEP UP WITH IT.
MEMBERS WILL HAVE TO HAVE THAT CERTIFICATE
NUMBER TO ENTER STOCK SHOWS IN NOVEMBER.

Trail, then click on the picture of the Texas Trail logo
to get started watching the presentation. Then on the
top bar again, click on Verification then follow Junior/
Senior directions below.

Go to the Quality Counts web page at http://
qualitycounts.tamu.edu. On the top bar click on Cur-
ricula then click on the Quality Counts Book and CD
(this has information and examples of what will be on
the test). Study the information. Then on the top bar
again, click on Verification and follow Junior/Senior
directions below.

CHOOSE 4-H AND FFA IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHICH
YOU WILL SHOW UNDER
Click on Take the test and become verified. You must
make a score of 80 or better to pass. Take the test as
many times as necessary.

ARPC Civilian Marksmanship Program
When: Second Saturday of Each Month
Where: Indoor rifle range of ARPC (2.2 miles north of Loop 335 on North Western)
