Dear Church Family, Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. It is a season of preparation for the celebration of Easter, and a time set apart to examine your own life and to draw closer to God. During Lent, Christians are encouraged to focus their energy on three primary disciplines: prayer, fasting and almsgiving (or sharing our gifts with the poor). The extra time spent in prayer during Lent can lead us closer to God and we are encouraged to focus our prayers on the places in our lives and in our world that need improvement. Most often when people think of Lent they think about giving up something. But, fasting isnt about denying ourselves as a sort of punishment, and it isnt even about food. We can fast from television, food, video games, computers, and other simple everyday indulgences so that we can instead hunger for God. Often the reason people will give up something is so that when they desire it that they remember to spend time with God. And for some individuals instead of giving up something during Lent, they pick-up something during that time which will draw them closer to God, such as an extra time doing devotions or meditation or studying the Bible. And then the third part which we are encouraged to do, besides prayer and fasting, is almsgiving or giving to those in need. Maybe we skip one meal each week and give the money that we would have spent to the Mission or those in need. Hopefully, during this time we become more aware of how we have been blessed and realize how important it is to give in order to care for others. During this season of Lent at Memorial Drive UMC, we will have a Lenten Taize Prayer Service each Wednesday of Lent (excluding Ash Wednesday) where we will focus on prayer. We will also have the dime jar available during the prayer service and Sunday service for almsgiving to Restore Hope Ministries. We will be starting Lent on February 26, 2020 at 6PM in our sanctuary for our Ash Wednesday service. Other services to mark your calendar with are: Palm Sunday on April 5, Maundy Thursday on April 9, and Good Friday on April 10. Please also join us for our weekly worship on Sundays at 10am and our Wednesday Lenten prayer service at 6pm. We look forward to this season of preparation as we celebrate the coming of Easter. Blessings, Rev. Kaela Burdge

Dear Church Family,

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. It is a season of preparation for the celebration of Easter, and a time set apart to examine your own life and to draw closer to God. During Lent, Christians are encouraged to focus their energy on three

The extra time spent in prayer during Lent can lead us closer to God and we are encouraged to focus our prayers on the places in our lives and in our world that need improvement. Most often when people think of Lent they think about giving up something. But, fasting isn’t about denying ourselves as a sort of punishment, and it isn’t even about food. We can fast from television, food, video games, computers, and other simple everyday indulgences so that we can instead hunger for God. Mission Trip Planned

We are in the process of forming our inter-generational team for our mission

trip to Dulac, Louisiana the week of June 7th. Is God calling you to serve his

people in Dulac as a Volunteer In Mission? Are you good at visiting with

people and sharing God's love, can you hold a paintbrush and paint a ramp,

can you hammer a nail and repair a fence? These are just some of the skills

we are looking for in our team members to make a Christian difference in the

world, is it you? Our next team meeting is March 8 after church in

Fellowship Hall. The cost per person is $250.00 which covers our food

and lodging for the week. $50.00 per person is due on March 8th. The

CHURCH GARAGE SALE

Dates for our annual sale

have been selected; April

24--25! Set up will take

place beginning after

church on April 19. Please

consider bringing your

items that you are ready to

part with to Room 107

anytime before April

19. Items may be brought

to the gym the week of

April 19. Proceeds from

the sale go to the mission

work of our church.

February is the

month for romance

and the church

library has a

number of Christian

romance books for

members to read. The library is located

in the adult Sunday School hall and is

open when the church is open. Fill out

the card in the book/DVD and leave it

in the box on the desk.

The Food Pantry goes through a lot of bags each month. We especially use a lot of

paper bags (with handles), all sizes. You can leave them outside the food pantry

when you come to church. Our next food pantry will be March 19, 2 to 4 p.m. Those

participating for the first time should bring a government-issued picture ID and

proof of residence. Entrance is in the back of the church.

Challengers Adult Bible Study Class 8:45am Sunday Morning in Room #108 (next to the Library)

In March, we will be starting the Spring Study Guide with daily Bible readings and engaging commentary by Randy cross. The theme is “Life” with three subtopics: Suffering, Salvation, and Grace. The Challengers class consists of a diverse core

group:

● Participate in thoughtful, challenging discussions

● Are supportive of one another through life’s challenges

● Meet the challenging demands for another cup of coffee on a brisk Sunday morning

Visitors and New Class Members are always

welcome!
