CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
Do you know the Bible stories that go with all of our stained glass windows in the Sanctuary? The children went on an adventure on a
recent Sunday morning to the Sanctuary during our class time to explore the stories in the windows. Every window is about
Jesus! Join DeeAnn, Brenda and Martha each Sunday morning as we learn more about Jesus and how much he loves us!
Dear Church Family,
Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. It is a season of preparation for the celebration of Easter, and a time set apart to examine your own life and to draw closer to God. During Lent, Christians are encouraged to focus their energy on three
primary disciplines: prayer, fasting and almsgiving (or sharing our gifts with the poor). The extra time spent in prayer during Lent can lead us closer to God and we are encouraged to focus our prayers on the places in our lives and in our world that need improvement. Most often when people think of Lent they think about giving up something. But, fasting isn’t about denying ourselves as a sort of punishment, and it isn’t even about food. We can fast from television, food, video games, computers, and other simple everyday indulgences so that we can instead hunger for God. Often the reason people will give up something is so that when they desire it that they remember to spend time with God. And for some individuals instead of giving up something during Lent, they pick-up something during that time which will draw them closer to God, such as an extra time doing devotions or meditation or studying the Bible. And then the third part which we are encouraged to do, besides prayer and fasting, is almsgiving or giving to those in need. Maybe we skip one meal each week and give the money that we would have spent to the Mission or those in need. Hopefully, during this time we become more aware of how we have been blessed and realize how important it is to give in order to care for others. During this season of Lent at Memorial Drive UMC, we will have a Lenten Taize Prayer Service each Wednesday of Lent (excluding Ash Wednesday) where we will focus on prayer. We will also have the dime jar available during the prayer service and Sunday service for almsgiving to Restore Hope Ministries. We will be starting Lent on February 26, 2020 at 6PM in our sanctuary for our Ash Wednesday service. Other services to mark your calendar with are: Palm Sunday on April 5, Maundy Thursday on April 9, and Good Friday on April 10. Please also join us for our weekly worship on Sundays at 10am and our Wednesday Lenten prayer service at 6pm. We look forward to this season of preparation as we celebrate the coming of Easter. Blessings, Rev. Kaela Burdge

Mission Trip Planned
We are in the process of forming our inter-generational team for our mission
trip to Dulac, Louisiana the week of June 7th. Is God calling you to serve his
people in Dulac as a Volunteer In Mission? Are you good at visiting with
people and sharing God's love, can you hold a paintbrush and paint a ramp,
can you hammer a nail and repair a fence? These are just some of the skills
we are looking for in our team members to make a Christian difference in the
world, is it you? Our next team meeting is March 8 after church in
Fellowship Hall. The cost per person is $250.00 which covers our food
and lodging for the week. $50.00 per person is due on March 8th. The
