It was a great honour for Indian Team, as the organising committee requested Ms. Arati to take oath on behalf of the competitors, also, they have requested Mr. Thiyagu to take seat as the guest on the dais, since he is a Govt. of India employee.

20 Countries participated in this year's competition with 388 competitors representing 71 Teams, most of which are from China. One could see very good and very efficient welders from different countries, those who took part in the competition. Two of Indian welders took part in GMAW category and other two in GTAW, but all of them competed in finished product category also. There were around 50 booths for the competition with very good assistance from the organisers to resolve the problems during the competition, if any. Since 112 competitors were from different countries and 276 from China, prizes for all the categories were distributed to Chinese as well as to the candidates of other nationalities. One must say that it was a very good opportunity to the welders to gain experience of such a huge international competition.

On the morning of 10th June, interested competitors took part in a written examination; all the four Indian competitors showed their courage to participate in the exam. It was informed that if the test pieces passed in accordance with ISO 9606-1 and if the required 80% marks were obtained in the written exam, then a certificate will be issued to the competitors later through a German institute after their reviewing. After lunch of 10th June, the Awarding Ceremony started. Mr. Thiyagu got the Third Prize of Adult Group in GTAW category, Ms. Arati got the Outstanding Female Welder Prize and all the competitors got the Excellent Prize in both single process and finished product category. It was a great moment for Indian Team, when they received the Bronze Cup again this year! It was a great honour for the team leader to be among the guests during the Awarding Ceremony.

As understood, this was the best ever Arc Cup competition and well organised one with proper arrangements, good hospitality, specific foods for Indian Team and assistance as and when required. Also, India through Mr. R. Bose had the say in Organising Committee Meeting, Team Leaders Meeting, and Jury Meeting and at the competition venue. It was possible due to the support from the employers of the competitors and hope that the journey would continue in coming years too!

AMIIW Examination

In an advertisement of the AICTE (Advt. No. 13-56/PC/ODL/Mode//AICTE/2017 dated 10.04.2017), it is clearly mentioned that MHRD has withdrawn the recognition of all certificates / qualifications granted to professional bodies / institutions in the field of technical education. The AICTE would look into the matter and would act as a regulatory authority.

IIW-India officials delivered a presentation at the AICTE, New Delhi before Natarajan Committee w.r.t. AM-IIW Examinations. The Presentation and discussion was satisfactory. However, the committee repeatedly asked about the absence of Laboratory module in the curriculum of AM-IIW examination system. Prof. Das made a commitment before the committee to include Laboratory papers, if recommended by the AICTE.

Candidates who got enrolled on or before May 31 2013, if they complete the AM-IIW Examinations in all respect, their AM-IIW certification would be recognized by the AICTE, New Delhi. However, candidates enrolled after May 31 2013 and completing AM-IIW Examinations would be certified by the Indian Institute of Welding without the recognition of the MHRD/ AICTE, New Delhi.

It may be mentioned that International Institute of Welding recognizes AM-IIW certification for various International Diplomas of IWCP (International Welding Coordination Personnel) schemes such as International Welding Engineer/ Technologist/ Specialist/ Practitioner (IWE, IWT, IWS & IWP) and IWIP (International
