KFC 2013 CAROLINAS DISTRICT

During the conference the New Jersey District Board was split into separate neighborhoods just like at Key Leader. Each board member got to meet other mem-bers of the K-Family other than just Key Clubbers. From Kiwanis Governors to Circle K Secretaries to just general members attended.

Each group participated in group activities such as putting a skit together or coming up with a group name and a group mascot with a matching banner. One of the most notable activities was an activity called breaking borders. Breaking borders involved the group sitting in a circle and sharing their thoughts and inner core values on life in order to improve oneself and understand others.

During the group free time, another notable activity was going hiking in the wilder-ness. With barely any steep mountains in New Jersey, it was incredible seeing the hills of North Carolina which were covered in the red leaves of autumn. Even though it took two planes and a van to get there, the experience of a lifetime was definitely worth irreplaceable.

THE EXPERIENCE WAS PRICELESS

EDITOR’S LETTER Dear New Jersey District Board, After a more than refreshing trip to the North Carolina, I reminded myself again why I loved Key Club so much. Apart from just the service that we Key Clubbers provide, I also remembered how much I love spending time with others with the same passion. At Kiwanis Family Conference, the board members and myself got the opportunity to spend time with others around the nation also in Key Club as well as get inspired by motivational speakers. It was like Key Leader except at an even larger scale. Meeting personalities such as International Presi-dent Raeford Penny or even seeing International Trustee Madi Keme-ker again was just phenomenal. Even more, memorable the mountain views were out of this world. Kiwanis Family Conference would defi-nitely be one of the most memorable moments of the career as the district editor of this mighty district. Yours in Caring and Service, Pak Chau 2013-2014 New Jersey District Editor New Jersey District of Key Club International Egg Harbor Township High School Key Club

Year after year, the New Jersey District of Key Club International had strived to reach the goal of 3000 Key Clubbers at the annual Fall Rally event. After months of planning and hours the night before practicing script parts, all the work paid off! This year, 3039 atten-dees were present to celebrate the year of service. The anticipated rain failed to drizzle and so the whole event went smoothly and Key Clubbers form all over the district enjoyed the day riding on rides without the fear of torrential downpour. Among the attendees, Division 15 of the New Jersey District got the pleasure of winning the coveted spirit stick!

THINGS TO PUT IN NEWSLETTERS AND HOW TO USE THE BRAND GUIDE

LOGOS Sometimes an event is missing something; probably something that makes it distinguishable. One thing that I tend to do is to make a logo. A logo helps people identify the event form others. A good logo can also help promote the event pretty well. Flyers can be made with purely just the logo to promote the event. It overall makes the event a lot more iconic and professional looking. Logos on all the documents also make each piece of advertisement more uniform and identifiable. Clever logos also reveal an event’s purpose or additional meaning. Check out how some of these logos are created and try and apply their techniques to making logos for future Key Club events! THIS LOGO WAS USED TO

ADVERTISE A FOOD REVIEW COMPANY HENCE A PEN

AND A SPOON

THE HIP IS HIDDEN IN THE HOP IN THIS LOGO BY US-ING THE NEGATIVE SPACE

IN THE LETTERS IN ORDER TO PROMOTE HIP HOP

IN THIS LOGO, THE LAST TWO LETTERS ARE USED TO

FORM A MINIMALISTIC PENCIL IMAGE

In the above logo, it is a bee but it also doubles as a flower. Using the negative space, the bee is formed as well as adds contrast to the black and white image. As shown above, creating a good and meaningful logo is challenging but can really pay off in a more uniform and official look. Some logos also exist in some Key Club related material as well. In the ELIMINATE Project logo, it is evident that apart from just the word eliminate in the logo, the letters “M,” “N,” and “T” are a different shade of blue. This allows for a contrast to clearly show the purpose of the ELIMINATE Project as well; that the purpose is to eradicate MNT or Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. When creating a logo several things can be considered in order to make it its best. One thing to consider is its name. Perhaps there can be some-thing that can be done with its name to make it appeal like for the ELIMINATE Project. Another thing that can be considered is an object that can symbolize the thing that the logo is being made for such as the pencil shaving Education First logo. Using negative space, or blank space, to create objects that aren’t really there is another smart way to add meaning. Adding whole objects in such as the Curious logo is yet another way. A creative logo takes time but in the end it pays off. If its for Key Club, remember to use the Brand Guide to keep Key Club uniform!

THE EDUCATION FIRST LOGO ABOVE IS SPECIAL

AS IT INCLUDE ITS PUR-POSE, IT INCLUDES A WELL ASSOCIATED SYMBOL OF EDUCATION (THE PENCIL SHAVING), AND ALSO

USES THE PENCIL SHAVING TO DOUBLE AS A RISING

SUN SYMBOLIZING RISING EDUCATION LEVELS

THE “C” IN CURIOUS DOU-BLES AS A BACKWARDS QUESTION MARK WHICH MAKES THE LOGO MORE
