We expect this event to be both a bunch of fun and to quickly sell out, so please register as soon as possible. The cost is $20 per couple. You can register in the Atrium (cash or check) or on the HUB (credit or debit card) this upcoming week-end, and please be on the lookout for our Ministry Moment review. Child care is not available for this event. Then, please join us for week- end worship as Pastor Tim has tailored his sermons to underscore the theme of this weekend: the importance of marriage and family. See you there! Second, we are making steady progress towards one of our 2016 goals: to upgrade both our HCC signage and our HCC brand (the church symbol or symbols used to identify HCC as we communicate in the various media: print, website, videos, etc.). Our working team of elders, staff, and volunteers is ready to begin taking, through this Summer and Fall, the next (baby) steps toward applying and establishing our enhanced signage and branding. Please keep an eye out for these changes, too; we believe you'll be pleased! Your servant in Christ, Jack Church Life Director

Inside this issue: Hello Highliners, We have two exciting announcements! First, from Friday May 20, 2016 through Sunday May 22, 2016 we have planned a Family Worship Weekend. Please join us for the weekend's kick-off event: Married Couples Night on Friday May 20, 2016 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

After we've had our fill of table hors d'oeuvres, we will start with a fun group ice-breaker.

Then, we will watch a series of three Focus on the Family videos featuring three different Christian comedians, each commenting on a particular aspect of marriage.

We will follow each comedian's section with a fairly brief couple group discussion related to the section we just watched.

Jane Knight and I will be your primary hosts for this event, but we will be ably assisted by our respective spouses, Pastor Tim and Kelly.

There will also be a "goody bag" for each couple.

Heading off to Christian College Next Fall? Are you seeking a vocation in Christian service? Churches are seeking

preachers, worship leaders, youth ministers! Mission field workers are

also needed!

We realize there is a shortage of full time Christian workers in today's

world. To help with offsetting this shortage, Highline Christian Church

awards scholarships to help students who are members of HCC and are

pursuing a ministerial or Christian vocation degree or certificate.

Applications are available on the HUB—”HCC Scholarship Application

2016-2017.”

The application deadline is May 27, 2016.

God's word shares that the harvest is plenty but the workers are few.

Are you ready to join the harvest?

Each Summer, Young Life leaders in the Greater Highline/Tukwila area take area teenagers, mostly unchurched, to a Young Life Camp where they spend a week being loved on, having ridiculous amounts of fun, and experiencing the good news of Jesus Christ every day. This Summer, we hope to FILL 5 BUSES - taking 150 kids on four different camp trips (High School, Middle School, Teen Moms, 6th Grade). A week of camp does come at a price: $600 per spot. Most teens and their families in our area cannot afford the full cost of camp, even with fundraising opportunities. Here’s what you can do to help us get them there: Take a cardboard “bus” home from church during our weekend

services. Fill the bus with cash, change, or checks (payable to “Young Life”

with the memo line left blank) during the next five weeks. Pray for the GHT Young Life mission each time you put money in

the bus. Bring the bus back to any service during the weekend of May 28-

29 and park it in the designated lot (the Young Life table in the Atrium).

Thank you for helping local kids meet Jesus!

The Annual Congregational Meeting will be May 15, 2016 after the 10:40 a.m. Worship Service.

The Annual Congregational Vote will be the weekend of May 21 & 22. We will be voting on the officers of the congregation as well as the Annual Church Budget.

We are excited to launch “text to give.” You will now be able to text 206-900-9118 with the amount you want to give. The first time you donate you will be given a short link to click in order to set up your payment information. The next time you give you will receive an acknowledgement thanking you for your gift. You can use either credit/debit or e-check. It is simple and secure! This is just one more option of how you can support the ministries happening at Highline —by check/cash in the offering plate, online through the HUB or by text. Please contact the church office at 206-243-4333 or [email protected] if you need more information.

A Brand New Way to Give

As demonstrated in the seniors' activity for the past few months, seniors definitely enjoy restaurant fellowship! Mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 4 when we shall converge (HOP) on over to the International House of Pancakes on Pacific Hwy/International Blvd. Meeting time is 11:45 at the restaurant. Please respond via the HUB or sign up on the Atrium table so we'll have a number for our reservation.

Where were you born? Minneapolis, Minnesota

How long have you been attending HCC? 7 years

What brought you to HCC? A client of mine from work told me about HCC,

she had been a member and invited us to attend.

How did you come to know the Lord? I grew up in the Lutheran Church. My

mother was the church secretary for Lutheran Church of the Master in

Brooklyn Park Minnesota for 22 years. I was baptized and confirmed in

that church, I don’t ever recall a time I didn’t have the Lord in my life.

Tell us about your family? We have a small family just my husband Alan and myself. We have two furry

kids, Stella and Bizzy, Mini Dachshunds that really run the house. I have a sister that still lives in Minnesota

(despite my efforts to get her to move to the more moderate Seattle climateJ). Alan has 3 sisters and a

brother, living in Idaho, Montana and Colorado.

What do you do like to do for fun? I love to be creative, I am a designer so I’m always working on new

designs for our business. I know it sounds like work but it’s really what I love to do. I also enjoy gardening in

the summer, walking and taking pictures of flowers on my walks (and posting all my flower pics to

FacebookJ). And of course playing with my furry kids.

What’s your favorite restaurant? La Vita e Bella, an Italian restaurant in Belltown, or any waterside

restaurant with a view.

What’s the farthest you have been from home? Bermuda

What ministries at Highline are you most passionate about? Women in Touch, and ministries that support a

strong marriage.

What one word would your friends use to describe you? I had no idea so I texted a friend for help. She sent

back: Caring.

If money was no object how would you most want to spend your time? Traveling the world finding design

inspiration, first stop, Italy…you did say money was no object.

What book other than the Bible are you currently reading? Doodling for Dog

People by Gemma Correll

If you could go back in time what yr. would you go back to? Why? There are

way too many options with that question! Maybe the Italian Renaissance

when many of the design principals we work by today were developed?

If you could meet any person still living who would it be? Why? Todd

Oldham. He’s a designer that crosses all design boundaries from graphic

design, to fabric/pattern and fashion design, to interiors and furniture design, to Industrial & product design.

What’s a song that always makes you smile? Don’t Worry Be Happy

If the whole world were listening to you right now, what would you say? Why can’t we all just get along?

Stop fighting, stop judging, and stop behaving like spoiled children! It seems that society has lost all civility

and respect for one another. Kind of sounds like what we were all taught in kindergarten, respect your

neighbor and they will respect you.

Summer Ministries Summer is an exciting time of ministry at Highline. June 5th is Promotion Sunday where we will remember

and celebrate the work God has done in our lives this school year. We hope you will join us at 6 p.m. for our

celebration ceremonies. With promotion, comes new classes and new responsibilities for many students.

June 12th is the first day of Summer Sunday School where all the grades meet together and the new 1st

graders get to join in the fun in the Higher Ground Lodge for both services on Sunday mornings.

Summer also brings VBS. We do VBS a little different at Highline than most other churches. We have three

different Vacation Bible Schools geared for specific ages each unique in time and structure, but all with the

same goal of helping the kids grow with Jesus.

Why is there a charge for VBS at Highline? Although VBS is included in the church budget, the budgeted

amount does not cover the whole cost of running the VBS ministries. The cost for each VBS, though

minimal, helps us stay on budget and still provide a great environment for everyone involved to learn and

grow with Jesus. The cost of the VBS is not intended to stop people from attending camp, rather it is there

to help enrich the experience. We believe the VBS ministries are a great experience for every child and

leader involved and have never allowed finances to stop a child from attending, therefore we have

scholarships available for those students who would not be able to attend without one. Please contact me if

you would like to support the VBS ministries by providing scholarships for kids to attend.

Thank you, Pastor Bret
