TruthOver exfoliating with a scrub will make your skin produce even more oil – and more oil = more spots. Cleanse thoroughly with a non foaming cleanser and a flannel at night and then with water and a flannel in the morning.

MythYou don’t need to bother with moisturiser until you’re in your twenties.

TruthBoys and girls should start moisturising from age 12 but you don’t need to spend a fortune on a moisturiser. If you suffer from spots, make sure your moisturiser is oil free. Layer with SPF to prevent skin damage – even in winter!

MythEye cream is for much older people.

TruthThe skin around your eyes is delicate for anyone any age. Again, there’s no need to spend a lot of money. If you have bags under your eyes, choose a gel (thick creams can increase puffiness) with a caffeine ingredient and store the tube in the fridge to make it extra soothing. If you have dark circles, look for a product with a lightening ingredient like vitamin C.

YEZGlasgow

@YEZGlasgow

In 2012 Robert joined the YEZ’s Connect with Enterprise Programme. After successfully completing the training Robert was keen to keep his spirits high and applied to be on a YEZ volunteer placement assisting the trainers with the delivery of the programme and sharing his own experiences with his peers.

This placement has been extremely beneficial for Robert. He has met Chief Executives of national companies, the Secretary of State for Scotland, Michael Moore plus various entrepreneurs and employers over the course of his time with YEZ. Robert now hopes to secure a position in the film or music industry using the enterprising attitude and new found digital skills he has developed throughout the process.

MORE ABOUT YEZ > Over 600 young people benefited

last year from funding, training and/or business advice delivered via YEZ

> They are based at Ladywell Business Centre, Duke St where office premises are provided for start-up clients

> Connect with Enterprise is a programme for 16–20yr olds, not in education employment or training and is geared to get young people ready for work and further education opportunities.

STRUGGLING SCHOOL LEAVER?The Prince’s Trust supports disadvantaged young people, more than half of whom have left school with few qualifications. The youth charity runs intensive training schemes for struggling school leavers, giving them the skills and confidence to find work.

ABOUT THE PRINCE’S TRUSTYouth charity The Prince’s Trust helps disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track. It supports 13–30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion. Many of the young people helped by The Prince’s Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law. The Trust’s programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work.

While many school pupils across Scotland have been celebrating positive exam results, new research suggests that those pupils leaving with poor grades are fearing for their futures. More than one in five young people living in Scotland expect to “end up on benefits”.

The Prince’s Trust is calling for more vocational support for those leaving school with few qualifications to help them into jobs. Almost one in three young people living in Scotland believe those who fail their exams will struggle to find a job in the future. Alan Kennedy, Acting Director of youth charity The Prince’s Trust in Scotland, says: “Thousands of young people’s ambitions are crushed by exam results each year. Many of these young people have faced problems at home or bullying at school, so their exam results don’t reflect their true potential.

“We need to do more to support those who are not academically successful, helping them develop vocational skills. We need to show young peopleliving here in Scotland that they can be a success, even if they don’t get multiple Standard Grades and Higher qualifications.”

THREE IN FOUR YOUNG PEOPLE ON PRINCE’S TRUST SCHEMES MOVE INTO WORK, EDUCATION OR TRAINING.The study also shows how young people with few qualifications often face significant barriers to learning at home. Those who left school with few qualifications are twice as likely as their peers to say that they “struggled to concentrate on schoolwork due to family problems” and that their “home-life was so stressful that they struggled to focus”. They are also significantly less likely to have had access to a computer, the internet or a quiet place to do their schoolwork at home.

CITY SOUNDS

2013

WINNER

31 // ENTERTAINMENT WWW.GRIDMAG.CO.UK

Getting to know Lewis

Tell us a bit about your act…I am a versatile hip-hop artist who creates songs with strong vocabulary to get people thinking about the stories I tell. I use melody in my music and also like to sing on choruses. My sound ranges from RnB to Hip-Hop through to vocals on dance tracks.

How did you hear about City Sounds?Through the Scottish Music Centre after they put me on a Music Plus singing programme in Glasgow.

Most memorable moment of the competition? I have two, the first being full of nerves and adrenaline in the dressing room waiting to come out on stage. The second was the winner being announced. I had severe butterflies. I have never felt so proud!

What’s the most played album on your iPod?Jay–Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’

Tell us something our readers might like to know?I love finding new music and being creative so if you follow me on Twitter you can tweet me a link to any piece of music and I will send out a free KWAV T-shirt to the winner of my choice.

What’s next on the agenda?1) Shooting my music video for my Debut Single

“Love Struck” in IBIZA.

2) Supporting Professor Green at Youth Beatz Festival in front of 12,000 people!

3) Finishing my Debut Album for the release next year!
