The Great TOGAF Scavenger Hunt
Purpose The purpose of this activity is to prepare you to participate in the Enterprise Architecture Using TOGAF™ 9 course offered by Metaplexity Associates LLC®.
We initially offered this activity as part of our one-day version of the TOGAF 9 Advanced Upgrade Bridge course. However, we have found that it was really helpful to all students, so we are providing it to you as a way to "hit the ground running" on your TOGAF 9 Certification process.
If you can do some preparation before the class, we believe that your experience in the course will be more rewarding and you will be more likely to successfully complete the TOGAF 9 certification examinations. Most important, we hope that this set of activities will help you to better learn how to search for and find information you need from TOGAF 9.
We are strongly committed to offering you a high-quality learning experience. We believe that active engagement in the learning experience is the best way to ensure the effective acquisition of knowledge. That is why we believe this introductory preparation will be effective.
Intended Audience This guide is intended for all Metaplexity Associates TOGAF 9 course participants.
The target audience for the Enterprise Architecture Using TOGAF 9: Certified are individuals who will seek certification at either TOGAF 9 Foundation (Level 1) or the TOGAF 9 Certified (Level 2).
The Enterprise Architecture using TOGAF 9 Advanced Bridge Upgrade course is intended for individuals who currently hold a valid TOGAF 8 Certified Practitioner certification with The Open Group. If you are not sure of your status, check with the Open Group Certification Registry to ensure that your name is listed. TOGAF 8 Certified Practitioners may upgrade using either the Advanced Bridge course, or they may elect to attend the full four-day Enterprise Architecture Using TOGAF 9: Certified course. They will be allowed to take the Advanced Bridge Upgrade Exam in either case.

Exercise 1: Getting TOGAF TOGAF™ is a licensed product produced by The Open Group and its Architecture Forum. A license is required to use TOGAF™.
For internal, noncommercial use, the license is free of charge. For commercial use, a fee-based commercial license is required.
Each person should register and agree to the terms of a license before using TOGAF. It is easy to do!
In this exercise, you will access the Open Group website to get a licensed copy of TOGAF 9.
1. Using your web browser, go to the following website: * http://www.opengroup.org/architecture/togaf9/downloads.htm
2. You should choose the correct method for accessing the download site based on whether or not you work for a company that is a member of the Open Group Architecture Forum. In either case, the download is free for noncommerical internal purposes.
3. Review the terms of the license agreement, and if you agree with them, proceed to download TOGAF 9.
4. For this course, we recommend that you download both the HTML and PDF versions.
5. Select a directory or folder that is easy to access and unzip the TOGAF 9 HTML zipfile in to that location.
6. In the top level directory of the HTML directory, you will find a directory called arch. In that directory you will find a file called index.htm. Open that file to launch the HTML version of TOGAF 9.
7. The PDF version will work like any other PDF file, if you have an appropriate PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
8. Spend some time navigating around in both the HTML and PDF versions.
In the next exercise we will explore TOGAF 9 in more detail.
* You should also review the TOGAF™ materials and associated resources at: http://www.togaf.com

Summary
You have now reviewed the major elements of TOGAF 9. You have examined what is new and what has remained the same since TOGAF 8.
• Architecture Content Framework
o TOGAF 9 introduces the Architecture Content Framework which gathers together all of the content previously available in TOGAF and makes it more consistent. It provides core terminology and artifacts along with the ability to create extensions that support additional capabilities.
• Architecture Development Method
o Although the structure of the ADM has not changed in TOGAF 9, it has been enhanced. The approach and steps employed in the Architecture Definition phases are more consistent. The Architecture Realization phases have been expanded considerably.
o A set of guidelines and techniques have been added in Part 3. These elements are useful for tailoring the ADM to operate under different situations. Guidance on how to use TOGAF to Govern Service Oriented Architecture. Additional Guidance is provided on how to conduct TOGAF ADM cycles that create the viewpoint and views need for Security Architecture.
• Architecture Capability
o Much of the reference material that had been provided about Governance has been packaged into a new section called Architecture Capability Framework.
TOGAF 9 represents a significant enhancement. It contains many new features. It has been edited to ensure that terminology is used consistently throughout. All of these features add up to make TOGAF 9 a better TOGAF.
Congratulations!
You have completed the Great TOGAF Scavenger Hunt!
