THE GMO (Genetically Modified Organism)

Definition Refers to plants and animals with an
altered genetic make-up. GMOs are generally altered or manipulated by non-natural means in order to incorporate genes from another organism. Usually genetic engineering (GE) is done to achieve a trait not normally present in an organism, such as longer shelf life, disease resistance or different colors or flavors.
Why the subject GMO? A topical issue September 2012 : French scientists revealed that rats fed on GMO corn sold by American firm Monsanto, suffered tumors and other complications.
Why the subject GMO? And also an old controversy - Health diseases- An impact on the environment - Economic problems
=> To have an idea about what the GMO really are.
